Re: Sly Cooper Animated Series Starts October 2019

GravyThief

Recently played the HD trilogy, and just started Thieves in Time last night. It’s a shame they didn’t go for style in the games. Sly and Murray look completely different to how they do in the games. Especially Sly, he just looks creepy! I’ll still give it a shot though. Will it be using the same voice actors as the game?

Re: Guide: Best PS4 Horror Games

GravyThief

@stupidget Great shout on Threads. The fact it’s structured somewhat like a documentary, doesn’t have any Hollywood glamour, and is based on a scenario that could very easily happen (even more so at the time it was made), makes it probably the most disturbing and scariest film I’ve ever seen. I loved Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture too.

Re: Nathan Fillion Plays the Role He Was Born to in Uncharted Fan Movie

GravyThief

@KALofKRYPTON I do and I have the game as well, just haven’t played it yet. I want to experience the main series first, or I might play it to break up the main series.

@Th3solution That’s good to hear. I too am prone to spend too much time playing games where you can grind or there are loads of side quests. I much prefer linear games, so UC sounds right up my street. I might try and break it up as playing 5/6 games in a row does sound daunting! I have recently played the Last of Us, and I definitely liked the structure of that game. I wasn’t as blown away by game itself as I was hoping given its hype, but in terms of its linearity, structure and length it was pretty much the perfect game for me.

Re: E3 2018: Resident Evil 2 Returns to Raccoon City on 25th January

GravyThief

I’ve only just played RE2 on the PS1 for the first time the other week. I enjoyed it, but it seemed really short, even compared to RE1. I loved the RE1 remake on Gamecube, which seemed longer and had extra content compared to the original (and RE2), so I hope this follows suit and expands the game. I don’t mind doing a playthrough for each character, as long as there’s enough unique content in each scenario. Looking forward to seeing the new perspective for RE2, we haven’t seen that done before on an RE remake. Would love to see RE1 in a third person perspective too.

Re: Feature: Revisiting the Worst E3 Press Conference of All Time

GravyThief

I’d never heard about this conference before. Thanks for the article, was a great read. I’ll watch the 12 mins edited video linked above tomorrow for a laugh!

Shame Lost in Shadow / A Shadow’s Tale was part of this conference. That’s a great game, and one I’m happy to have in my collection.

Re: Review: SEGA Mega Drive Classics (PS4)

GravyThief

I like what I’ve seen of the menu hub/interface so far. I’ve always thought Sony and Nintendo have missed a trick with their Virtual Console and Classics releases. I’d love to have all my classic purchases in a hub of sorts where you can view the boxes from all angles, read the original manuals in all their glory, and even view 3D replicas of the controllers and consoles themselves. Probably quite niche and not worth it profit wise for them, but the nostalgia buzz would be awesome. I love the 80’s / 90’s bedroom too!

Re: Review: Detroit: Become Human (PS4)

GravyThief

I really like the idea of having a flowchart showing all the paths and being able to go back to checkpoints.

I’ve always liked the idea of multiple endings and games having completely different paths with different content depending on decisions and actions you make throughout the game.

What I’ve never liked is having play the game multiple times all the way through to see all the content.

So with this, I think I would play through it once to completion, then go back on the flowchart to experience different strands of the game with different decisions. I hope this is a model other developers follow. We don’t all have the time or will to play through a 20 hour game multiple times to see different endings.

I’m still yet to play a QD game. I have farenheit for the PS2, so I’ll start there! I think I’ll definitely buy Become Human at some point in the future.

Re: Review: Space Hulk: Deathwing (PS4)

GravyThief

I loved the original Space Hulk and Space Crusade board games back in the day. I was a young child so my vibrant imagination definitely brought that aspect of the 40k universe to life.

I recall the Space Hulk game on the PS1 back in the 90’s. I was so excited for it at the time, being first person and putting you in the shoes of the Terminators. Shame it turned out to be turd. I could never figure out what was going on (I was a young teenager), but ultimately it was just boring.

I’m not that into strategy games (beyond Fire Emblem, FF Tactics and the like), so I’ve never had much interest for the other Warhammer and 40k titles.

Such a shame no videogame has ever been able to really capitalise on the amazing universes from Games Workshop. Maybe one day.

Re: The Witcher 3 Patch 1.62 Makes Further PS4 Pro Enhancements

GravyThief

I bought the GotY Edition a few months ago as it wasn’t on sale in Argos. Haven’t played it yet though. I’ve found myself playing more retro games, such as the first 3 Silent HIll games. These open world 100+ hours ‘main quest/side quest’ games just don’t appeal to me at the moment. I think I got worn out playing Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade Chronicles X before that. Plus my wife has done Fallout 3 and now Fallout 4, so I’ve just got serious ‘long game’ fatigue at the moment. It’s a shame, as it seems The Witcher 3 is the best of the bunch, so I should have played that first. Didn’t have a PS4 back then though, the philistine that I was.

Re: Soapbox: PS Vita's Longevity Has Been Quite Remarkable

GravyThief

I bought an OLED VITA just last month. I love an under dog, which is why I love my Wii U and GameCube too. I’ve bought 3 16GB memory cards, this seems like enough to store stuff on without it costing too much. I was flabbergasted at the price of the memory cards though! At least with the PSP you can get an adapter for a few quid to use Micro SD cards.

I’ve only bought a few games for the VITA. The price of the physical games, even second hand, is very high. So I’ve only bought what appear to be the best ones. I reckon the VITA will be the first console where I own more digital games than physical ones. I’m always keeping an eye on PSN for VITA games going on sale!

Re: Guide: The Best 4K TVs for PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro

GravyThief

I only just upgraded to a 1080p from 720p last year! So will be a few years before I upgrade again. When I do, I’d like to get an OLED TV. I’ve always hated the LCD/LED technology, it was always such a step backwards from CRT TVs in terms of colours, blacks, and motion. OLED seems to be the future, I just hope it’s an affordable future!

Re: UK Sales Charts: God of War Fights Off Funky Kong for Third No. 1

GravyThief

I played DCK Tropical Freeze on the Wii U, and it was definitely a surprise hit for me. The music alone is fantastic. Glad it’s done well on the Switch in the UK.

I’m looking forward to playing God of War PS4 at some point in the future. I haven’t played any of the previous ones (but own them all across PS2/PSP/PS3), so want to work through them first. I hear they average about 10 hours each, which I like the sound of. I’m really put off by 50-100 hour games at the moment. It means I don’t play anything else for months, and a lot of those games are a long list of ‘primary’ chores and ‘secondary’ chores, not my idea of fun!

Has there been any sign of the physical releases for Wonder Boy and Shantae Half Genie Hero hitting the UK charts? They’re my latest purchases for the PS4, nice pick up and play games.

Re: Soapbox: Why You Should Play Shenmue I & II on PS4

GravyThief

I’m more than fine with old school game controls and mechanics, so I’m looking forward to playing this for the first time. I always heard about it at the time, but I never owned a Dreamcast and so have never played the games.

Just out of interest, what is the issue with the controls? Is it just the lack of dual analogue controls, because I’m more than capable of enjoying 3D games without them. I’m also fine with tank controls.

Re: Report: 2K's Working on a Top-Secret BioShock Title

GravyThief

What a coincidence. I’m currently playing through Bioshock 1 right now on my PS3 for the first time. I must say the setting of Rapture and the way it tells its story is amazing, even in 2018. I picked up the trilogy for under £5 on PS3, I plan to play them all over the coming weeks. I decided against getting the PS4 remaster as from videos I’ve seen it seems to lose some of its atmosphere on the remaster, like missing fog/smoke/water effects, and it looks too clean. I’m certainly not disappointed with the PS3 version, even if it is 10 years old.

Re: PS5 Is a Long Way Away, Or So Sources Say

GravyThief

@get2sammyb I totally agree with you. Having only recently got a PS3 and PS4, I was surprised how big and ugly the consoles were (even the Slim versions). But the PS4 Pro? Ugh, that is one ugly noisy beast. Even my wife commented on it! Great console though.

Re: Detroit: Become Human Will Drop Cyborg Jaws on PS4 Pro

GravyThief

I do wish more Pro enhanced games would offer a 60fps option, even if they’re not deemed ‘action’ enough by the developers. If you’re able to pan the camera fast in a game it looks horrible at 30fps, to me anyway.

I’ve just played What Remains of Edith Finch, and even in such a relaxed game I would have liked it to be 60fps! I really struggle with the ghosting effect you get on 30fps games when panning the camera. I’ve just been spoiled by recently playing the Last of Us and Sly Cooper trilogy.

Re: Legendary Shmup Ikaruga Rated for Release on PS4

GravyThief

I’ve got this for my Gamecube. I can’t even get past the first level, I struggle with the light/dark mechanic. I don’t think I’m much good at these types of games!

I think its spiritual predecessor, Radiant Silvergun, looks better. Ikaruga gets lots of praise too though, so will be good for PS4 owners who like this type of game.

Re: Cory Barlog Wanted Tomb Raider to Be a Single Shot

GravyThief

The ‘no loadong’ aspect is great, although that could have been done whether they had camera cuts or not. What I want to know is, what’s the benefit to the game of it just being a single shot? It’s obviously challenging to do, but I don’t see what benefit it brings, other than no loading? Is it just to give it that Blair Witch filmed on a camcorder vibe? Well, a 4K/HD camcorder anyway 😀

Re: Guide: The Best PS4 Walking Simulators

GravyThief

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Rapture. It helped that I'm from the UK and born in the 80's, but I just loved walking around admiring the old cars and TVs, as well as the lush scenery and lovely rural houses. The narrative and story was really well done too, made me actually want to complete the 'game'.

I'm yet to play Edith Finch, but I bought it in the sale. Can't wait.

Re: Review: Fear Effect Sedna (PS4)

GravyThief

I always think 'reviewing games for a living must be awesome'. But then a game like this comes along and I'm glad I don't have to play it through to the end, or even play it at all.

Re: Bethesda Softworks Was 2017's Best Publisher, According to Metacritic

GravyThief

I'd like all reviews to move to a model similar to Eurogamer: remove scores and just have three or four conclusions that summarises the reviewer's opinion.

Like, what exactly does a 7 out of 10 mean? Does a game have 7 of 'something', but is missing 3 of them? How exactly is an 87% game better than an 86% game? Do you have to look at all the scores of games you've given since the 1980's when giving your score? God forbid you decide to give an old game a score today, do base your score on what you expect now?

Surely the words of the review are what's important? Try aggregating that, stupid internet.
