God of War has enjoyed a third week at the summit of the UK sales charts, after fending off Nintendo Switch re-release Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Sales of Kratos’ latest dropped 56 per cent week-over-week, but it still moved more than enough physical units to maintain its position atop the British best sellers list. Realistically, it’s unlikely to be ousted until later in the month, although evergreen releases like FIFA 18 or even Far Cry 5 could leapfrog it in the meantime.
Nevertheless, this marks the first time since The Last of Us: Remastered that a PlayStation 4 exclusive has registered three consecutive weeks at the summit – a respectable achievement considering God of War has never been a big seller on these shores. Sony recently announced that the title sold 3.1 million units in just three days, making it the fastest selling first-party release of the generation. The remainder of the top ten is included below.

Donkey Kong COUNTRY: Tropical Freeze. You wouldn't believe how many people get on my ass for missing that...
Anyway yeah. Donkey Doo is an accurate description for this game. I have never been able to get into a DKC game and I probably never will. Can't even do a few levels before just stopping out of boredom.
Though pointing this out: GTAV isn't in the top 10. It'll be back in next week when DKC inevitably drops like thrown dung from a monkey, but it's a rare sight.
Is there actual surprise over a Sony game outselling a Nintendo game? Nintendo games sell worse then Xbox games there...

Given all the controversy with pricing (because Nintendo fans apparently WONT buy anything) Im surprised its done so well for a rerelease.
Given the World Cup update for FIFA is coming maybe God of War will be knocked to 2nd. Hard to say in the UK since its such an odd anomaly.

It deserves it. One of the best games ever made.
This game is getting better and better as I play it and having had a marathon Dad of Boy gaming session, I still feel I am hours away from completion. Well deserved. Who would have thought that a high quality single player experience could sell?
I played DCK Tropical Freeze on the Wii U, and it was definitely a surprise hit for me. The music alone is fantastic. Glad it’s done well on the Switch in the UK.
I’m looking forward to playing God of War PS4 at some point in the future. I haven’t played any of the previous ones (but own them all across PS2/PSP/PS3), so want to work through them first. I hear they average about 10 hours each, which I like the sound of. I’m really put off by 50-100 hour games at the moment. It means I don’t play anything else for months, and a lot of those games are a long list of ‘primary’ chores and ‘secondary’ chores, not my idea of fun!
Has there been any sign of the physical releases for Wonder Boy and Shantae Half Genie Hero hitting the UK charts? They’re my latest purchases for the PS4, nice pick up and play games.
It doesn't matter if it's on PushSquare or NintendoLife, the constant bashing between Nintendo and PlayStation boys and girls is really annoying. That's why we can't have nice things, people love tearing open each other throats over stupidities such a what game has got the number 1 spot on the charts.
Both God of War and DKC are really great games. Can't we just enjoy them both without people insulting one or the other?

@get2sammyb I was actually referring to the games themselves with people looking down on them because they're Nintendo games or Sony games, just because they're not from their system of choice.

Great to see Tropical Freeze getting so high in the charts, it's one of the best 2D platformers ever made, i wasn't expecting it to chart so highly, great to see three quality games at the top of the UK charts for once lol
God of War may have the top spot but. Nintendo has 3 Exclusive in the top 10.
I'm amazed enough Switches have been sold here for any of its games to chart. Literally no one I know was aware that Nintendo had released a console since the Wii (not Wii U) until I told them.
@maruse The console wars are essential. People are passionate not robots and we want to have the best system. If we didn't have console wars then standards would stagnate into one homogenized PC like system with online only guff. But yeah I see your point, no point fighting when Godof War is 100 times better the Donkey Kong.
@themcnoisy competition is what makes console makers evolve and make better systems. Console wars are just the squabbling of fanboys and do absolutely nothing to improve the gaming community, much less the consoles themselves.
You are right that God of War is a better game than DKC if you like that genre. If you prefer platformers, then DKC is superior to GoW. Do you see? It depends on the preferences of the gamer, not on the game itself. Besides, they’re games from two very different genres, so comparing them doesn’t make much sense.
@maruse completely wrong. If we didnt have that bit of tribalism you end up with no one improving. Wars (Real wars between powers) have proven thus far to be the major contributor to innovation like it or not. Console wars are curated by the console and game designers. Remember Sonys response to sharing games? Microsoft starting to give games on the live service? Segas blast processing? Fans do go a bit too far at times, you dont tend to get that on PushSquare. The last gen of games everyone got a bit too comfortable me thinks.
Rayman is better than Donkey Kong and that is free right now on psplus.

I’m all about educated and civil arguments, since everyone has a different opinion and talking with people with different views can be enriching, but most often than not all that console wars talk ends badly and achieves absolutely nothing except to enrage people.
Rayman might be better, or might be not. To each gamer is going to be different. I personally prefer Donkey Kong over Rayman (and GoW over DK, since I like action games more than platformers) but not that it matters much anyway.
Shame, as Donkey Kong Country is genuinely a better game and probably one of the best platformers ever made
Tropical Freeze is only tracking two days of sales, that's really good to hit 2nd place on one platform...everyone else is counting a full week of release lol.

It's just getting started. Wait for the Japanese sales chart on both NLife and Push Square. Last week we saw God of War beating Labo. Looks like Labo is back on top and GoW went a couple of places down.
