@get2sammyb "There's just not a very big market for racing games anymore."
Having bought every NFS on PlayStation except High Stakes and Porsche Unleashed... having a high percentage of the racing community that buys your games feel let down in some fashion on every game for a decade... it doesn't generally lead to increased sales
watching the increasing trend of requiring a wheel to be competitive (online and off). uh, no. the PS4 controller is the DS4 - not the G29. if a developer (Kunos Simulazione/SMS anyone) can't get their game to work well with the default DS4 (Polyphony & Codemasters can) which despite hardcore fan wishes is what most people use...... it doesn't generally lead to increased sales. Wheels are great for those who want them, but make sure your game works well without one.
The fact that many series from the PS2 era (MotoGP/MX vs ATV) don't look or perform as if they're two console generations removed... it doesn't generally lead to increased sales.
The racing developers continually shoot them selves in the foot. I can imagine the outcry if people playing COD/Battlefield/Fortnite were forced to buy a gun accessory to be competitive.
@KingdomHeartsFan on PS3? I'd say just get GT6. But Grid 2 was okay. On PS4? Just get GT Sport but some like Assetto Corsa or Project CARS 2 - I thought they were both crappy with a DS4.
The PS4 has lots of arcade racers. None of them are very good. My top 5 racers (in no order): Driveclub, GT Sport, Dirt 4, F1 17 and WRC 7.
Is TM Turbo a racer? Seems more like a time trial. Like saying Trials Fusion is a racer. Onrush would benefit from a standard race mode. Until then I'll stay away. Also why isn't GTA5 listed. Lots of people like the races online tho I think there is no sense of speed even with the fast cars.
NFS has gradually made themselves obsolete and stand by the fact that of the Blackbox/SMS/Criterion PS3 games, Blackbox were the better choice. Ghost PS4 Games have not rekindled my NFS.
Wondering if Quantic Dreams less-positive new headlines lately had anything to do with Sony's pass - as they always seemed on the cusp - and their newfound "multi-platform" focus. They make some nice looking games but, like Telltale, kind of a one trick pony IMO.
I'd think Bluepoint to join WWS would be a good addition.
@get2sammyb the flipside is we used to get lots of announcements like "Trials of the Blood Dragon". I'll take less announcements less frequently if it means less of the crap.
It took 3 NFS for EA to can Black Box, 2 NFS to can SMS & Criterion each, how many until they can Ghost (we're at 3). Seriously, this title needs to go away as how many fails can a series survive. Today's games seemingly get one chance and by my count NFS is on its 9th 😞
Sad as pushsquare the site I goto most but better to have a good review than a rushed one or go against devs wishes. On the fence on the game though. HD remix 1+2 may be enough for me.
My PS4 collection comprises 136 games, 46 of those from PS+, 10 are physical discs and 4 of those replaced with digital. All the rest are digital. My digital penetration stands at over 92%. And we are always buying only a 'licence' to use media back to the days before records. It's just they can track it now. Nothing else has changed. Also my newest is my first pre-order... Ace Combat 7
RDR2 will not have the legs of GTA5. I don't see RDR Online being able to expand in a similar fashion as GTA Online. GTA5 has replicated many other games online that RDR2 can't believably (any game can add aliens and zombies). I'll get it when it's like $25.
Definitely a "watch on YouTube" game for me. if it gets me then a buy but I'm not really interested in being a level designer so will wait for videos of single player. LBP & TEARAWAY weren't my thing.
Rare that the PS3 lineup is stronger than the PS4 lineup but there you go. Portal Knights and Fallen Legions have no interest for me and I eagerly played the Steep beta for roughly 10 minutes before stopping and deleting. I hated it. So a soft PS+ start for me.
I've never not had PS+ but most online games require it and as GTSport is tied to being online I guessed you'd need it as well. Good to know and happy holidays!
@SoulChimera. In GTSport with no online you can race in arcade and maybe time trial on the initial tracks with a selection of around 10 cars. You cannot race in GTLeague or Sport, use your garage, car settings, photo mode, or scapes. You cannot save progress. It's virtually useless currently without internet and PS+
Another thing that changed recently is that the store cart now syncs between my PC and my mobile and presumably the PS4 too though my PS4 isn't connected to check. It never used to do that and was so frustrating when adding & removing stuff. Go Sony!
A search function that gives good results and allows you a proper filter to whittle the 500+ results with avatars to the 20 or so games on a specific system. Also a cart that syncs between platforms. If we got that the store would be so 2010 and it'd be great
Given the idea of ps+ is to entice ppl to buy dlc, if they support it right a ps+ release of the base game may have a chance to entice ppl to play. But as stated, they have a lot of competition to contend with now that they didn't before. If they expect ppl to buy the game AND dlc I think only the fanboys and the mildly curious will bite. This game proves the adage "timing is everything". While the early bird gets the worm, often it's the second mouse that gets the cheese.
Even now, I can scan the list of games for the Vita and can say other than Uncharted, there is nothing I'd be remotely interested in. No RPGs, racing, sports... Nada
@DLB3 Publishing articles like this is why conspiracy theories persist. "Journalists" (term used loosely) perpetuate the idea that because there are multiple viewpoints each are equally valid. They often are not. Sadly this will continue as long as "journalists" continue to promote 'talking points' and "fair balanced discussion of" in liu of actual journalism. It's is not confined to gamers.
@get2sammyb True. But also true of every console at this stage of their cycle. I envy players who can wait to get a reduced $ console and a great selection of games. I'm not a day one guy but don't wanna wait 6 years either.
Digital download will happen Disc + download will probably happen Dual disc seems unlikely but who knows Triple disc is sites garnering clicks but IMO too cost prohibitive unless as a "Spyromaniac" box set with figurine, box of dragonart matches and encased in dragonglass
I'm a crappy gamer on my best days and have used walkthroughs throughout except racing games. A particularly useful one was for PS2 ICO as one of the puzzles was different in NA version vs. Europe. Now though with modern life/time constraints I graduated from walkthroughs to playthroughs on YT and am happy I get the story whereas if I played I usually get less than 50% through before giving up.
Weren't we talking about stable 60fps at the end of the PS2. We'll never get there as there will always be other features that take priority that add more to the experience that devs want to provide
If they're hiring now for NextGen you're probably looking at either actual NextGen which will be 2021 or later, or crossgen meaning the PS4 version in late 2019 or in 2020 then ps5 after that. Even stuff specific for PS5 won't be optimized for a few years. I never get a system right when it releases anyway so no bother to me either way.

Re: PS5 Backwards Compatibility Speculation Begins Again as Sony Files Another Patent
Full PS1-5 compatibility would greatly under cut the PSNow service as no one would need to stream. I expect BC to not be free in some fashion.

@tomassi same as buying F1 every year or NASCAR. Some people like the small differences between titles

Just the euro store? Or will this be available in NA as no release date given
Re: Poll: Do You Think Sony Is Telling the Truth About Cross-Play?
Gotta love a poll where all choices accept crossplay to some extent.
I don't care, don't play online and honestly would pick none at all. If I need to play online, there are more than enough people on PSN.
Re: Dangerous Driving, the New Arcade Racer from Burnout Creators, Smashes onto PS4 in April
Stupid name. Not excited about a half-baked burnout clone from the makers of burnout.
Re: Feature: Why You Shouldn't Worry About PS5 Backwards Compatibility
If they allow BC, then hopefully I can take my PS4's 6Tb HDD and plug it directly in the PS5 so I don't have to redownload it all!

Interesting as I'd have thought higher than 50% given the emphasis on online multiplayer. But Xbox/mario fans will complain as always

IMO Crash was the best mascot for PS1, PS2, PSP and now PS4 with the Vita and PS3 being MIA. That's 4 of 6 systems so Crash WINS!!
AR Bots are nothing to anyone
