Re: Game of the Year: #5 - Cult of the Lamb

B_Lindz

I'm surprised to see some of these games on PushSquare's top 10 of the year because it felt like just about every game that came out this year got a 7 or an 8 out of 10 from PushSquare other than Ragnarok and Elden Ring.

Re: PSVR2 Launches 22nd February 2023, Costs $550

B_Lindz

I just don't understand. I thought the whole point of console gaming was to provide a way for gamers to play without having to spend the astronomical prices PC gamers need to pay to build their custom rigs. I guess those days are long over. Like, who is this for? This is basically only for the upper-class who make 6-figure incomes. I guess the rest of us can go screw ourselves apparently.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give A Plague Tale: Requiem?

B_Lindz

I played the first hour and a half of Requiem and absolutely loved it, but I've decided to wait for a patch. I'm cool with 30 fps, but the stuttering and screen tearing was to the point that it became distracting for me. I'm sure Asobo is working hard to optimize their game for PS5, especially after how much effort they've put into the dualsense functionalities. I look forward to playing the rest of their game in the future.

Re: Poll: Do You Care About 60fps on PS5?

B_Lindz

I may get a lot of crap for saying this, but sometimes I enjoy 30 fps over 60 fps. It really depends on the game. I care a lot more about a locked and consistent experience over 60 that stutters at times. I find that action games, like Doom, Rift Apart, Returnal, and Horizon, feel much better at 60 fps, but cinematic games, like RDR2, TLoU, P5, and GoT, feel better at 30 fps. Consoles handle motion blur incredibly well, so locked 30 fps can feel really nice if devs take time to perfect the motion blur in their games. However, 30 fps looks like complete garbage on PC. Anything below 60 fps on PC looks and feels terrible.

Re: At Least The Callisto Protocol Will Be 60fps

@BrettAwesome Okie-doke. Well, if Bloodborne doesn't count as a game that the Ps4 struggled to hit 30 fps, then have a poke around here:

https://www.backwards-compatible.com/search/

You'll quickly find that not only did the PS4 struggle with early games to have a locked 30 fps or locked 60 fps experience, you'll find that almost all titles for PS4 could only target 30 fps or target 60 fps. Hardly any games actually had a locked frame rate for the entire gen.

Re: At Least The Callisto Protocol Will Be 60fps

B_Lindz

@JAMes-BroWWWn That's not how it works. There is way more going on behind the scenes during development than the devs just deciding for a game to not be 60 fps. The games you names off are completely different. None of those games run at native 4k 60 fps. Second, those games were all first party games, so they weren't worried about optimizing for other systems. Third, some games literally can't run at 60 fps, like Okami HD, because the animations were directly tied to the frame rate. Fourth, depending on a game's art direction, different levels of realism and detail require far more graphical resources that are beyond the PS5's capabilities.
Developing a game is far more complicated than you're making it sound.

Re: At Least The Callisto Protocol Will Be 60fps

B_Lindz

Look, even the 3000 series Nvidia cards couldn't handle most 3D current-gen games on ultra at 4k 60fps. PC and consoles are getting there, but we're just not there yet for the mid-range gaming market to consistently hit 4k 60fps for everything.

Re: Assassin's Creed Finally Goes to Japan as Ubisoft Takes on Ghost of Tsushima

B_Lindz

Here's the thing, I would like to see Assassin's Creed even ATTEMPT to hold a candle to the storytelling of Ghost of Tsushima. Almost every single encounter in GoT tied back into the overarching narrative that you were becoming the Ghost. It was beautiful. The ending left me speechless and in tears. I played it a year ago and I still find myself thinking about it.

Re: Microsoft Accuses Sony of Paying to Block Games from Xbox Game Pass

B_Lindz

When all is said and done, I still have no idea how on earth GamePass will be sustainable over the coming years. Something is going to have to give and I think both Microsoft and Sony know that. The cost of making games continues to go up. In some way I am with Sony on this one. It doesn't make sense to make a game for (something) over half a billion dollars and then put it on GamePass for $15/month. It's only a matter of time before Microsoft raises their prices and then it'll end up being more cost effective to just buy a game for $60-$70.

Re: Drill Down into Made in Abyss with This Game Overview Trailer

B_Lindz

The game looks fun, but I am so confused by this game's art direction. This game looked like it had a different art director for the character design, the menu UI/UX design, the logo's typography, the trailer's typography, and the environment design. I mean, look at the menu screen at 1:13 in the video for example. The UI on the left, middle, and center look like they were designed by 3 completely different designers. It's just bizarre, honestly.

Re: Sony to Take Action as PS5, PS4 Owners Play Less Than Anticipated

B_Lindz

I'm not suprised by this at all. There are so many factors playing into this stat. With the pandemic slowing down in parts of the world and with worldwide inflation, people don't have nearly as much time to game. The supply chain is still in a complete mess. With personal obligations and needing to make money, I have gamed less this year than I have in the past 5. Also, people don't have a lot of extra income to buy games.

It's going to take a stupid amount of time to recover from the past couple of years.

Re: Rumour: God of War Ragnarok Will Have 60fps, 30fps Options on PS5

B_Lindz

@Discol76 They're related but different. FPS is the number of frames of animation that are being rendered per second by your system or console. HZ is the number of times your monitor or TV refreshes the image on the screen per second. If a game is running at 30fps then that means your PlayStation is rendering 30 images of the game per second. If your monitor or TV is 60hz then that means your monitor can refresh its image 60 times per second; so, if your PlayStation is rendering a game at 120fps and your screen is 60hz then you'll only see a 60fps image with about every other frame of animation not appearing on your screen.

That doesn't mean you need to run out and buy a 4k 120hz monitor, though. That's probably overkill in most instances and it may not even meet your wants or needs. Most systems (and even high-end PCs) can't consistently hit 4k 120fps, let alone 4k 60fps. If you value a high frame rate, go with something with a high refresh rate. If you value image quality, go with 4k. For myself, I don't really care that much about anything above 60fps, but I love high resolution and color accuracy, so I went with a 4k 60hz color-accurate IPS monitor.

In the end, to each his/her own.

Re: Uncharted Movie Plunders Netflix from 15th July

B_Lindz

Full confession, I bought the Lost Legacy upgrade and got a free ticket to see this movie in theaters... and I never went. Hahaha! The movie looked so average to me. I kept thinking, "Why would I see a mediocre movie version of fantastic games that I already own?"
