I think it's amazing. A lot of these games are FAR too bloated already, making you drudge through the same battles endlessly, it isn't fun to fight the same minor enemy dozens, or hundreds, of times. And the skips make replays MUCH more feasible. I wish more long games did this, I might actually play them more than once.
@Neither_scene you make some excellent points, as usual… but… while you are right the industry is in a bind and price hikes and layoffs aren’t limited to Xbox, it’s the scale of them that is limited to Microsoft.
Last year day 1 games on Game Pass were $9.99 a month, now it’s $29.99. Their top tier console has gone up $200. No one else is near this level of increase.
Additionally while other platform holders and major publishers have closed studios and laid off staff no one is close to Xbox’s approximate 6,000+ job cuts.
So while I take your points, they were well made, it’s the scale of it all at Xbox that is different.
As someone who subscribes to the top tier of each (for now) I’d still say the middle £14.99 tier of game pass is the best value, followed by the middle £14.99 tier of PS+. But it really depends what you use.
How is Pachter still relevant? He’s a bright guy that has worked in the industry for decades, but spouts horse manure every time he speaks. He even makes Randy Pitchford seem more credible.
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy @revansgc I read their post, but I don’t believe everything I read. This game was already delayed once for more work.
Moreover it was more a comment about far too many games releasing unfinished and being patched for months or years to come. I’m massively looking forward to this game, it looks amazing, I just hope it’s finished at release.
@Ernimus_Prime Stick drift on PS5 is really frustrating because it uses EXACTLY the same part as PS4, Xbox 360/One/SX, Switch Pro controller but they have the deadzones set so small that it registers even the tiniest amount of drift.
You can test all this plugging it into a PC and running drift checkers. My PS5 controller that drifts has less relative drift than my PS4 controller that doesn't drift on PS4. Same with X360 etc.
@Meowmixes98 They already do. You can replace the built in 1560mAh battery with one that does 2500 - 4000mAh (60% - 250% larger). It's already pretty simple to change the battery.
I was going to do it, but now I just have a long USB-C cable next to my couch for charging everything including dual sense.
Would rather PIF than Silver Lake, purely because PIF has - to the best of my knowledge - not ruined studios through trying to have creative input or change the business model. Whereas Silver Lake almost ruined Unity by altering their business model to try and make more money, that is their MO, as can be seen in their other investments. They have no love for gaming.
PIF on the other hand already have a lot of gaming investments and, so far, just let devs just get on with making games. Hence purely from a gaming purity standpoint PIF are the better choice imo... though I can understand why some people have moral issues with them. Ideally neither.
It's utterly bizarre how much hate this game gets, even half a decade later. Seeing so many people trying to gatekeep others from playing it, that alone should ring alarm bells.
If you have PS+ give it a go yourself. Like it, don't like it, that is up to you. But trying to tell others not to play it because of your own ideology is extreme. Mad people can't see that. Make up your own mind.
The game LOOKS outstanding, and I am intrigued to play it.
I assumed it WAS a character Gacha, but it seems it's not, will have to see how it is monetised. Because one thing is clear with F2P you either pay with Time, money or both.
Will be interesting to see how they monetise it because I don't want another time sink.
@RagnarLothbrok At least 2-3 years i'd reckon. But it depends on sales. They put Horizon: FW on PS+ Extra after a year and it massively backfired and they haven't done the same since for first party AAA.
@Lowdefal Indeed he already said a few months ago that PS5 has made more profit than PS1-PS4 combined. But it's a stat that's probably worth repeating.
@somnambulance I don’t know how many games I buy anymore. I don’t keep track. But it’s a lot less than I used to when I would buy anything on my wish list if it was on sale. 4-5 games a month easy. Nowadays with a huge backlog + Game Pass I buy far less. But my attachment rate for the PS4 was hundreds of games, even before PS+.
But we’re enthusiasts and the minority. At the other end of the scale is the people that buy a sport game once a year + the occasional massive game like GTA, or people whose consoles are gathering dust.
I’d also suspect that the metric isn’t as useful anymore as a lot of popular games are F2P, which won’t count as a sale, but users may spend far more on MTX.
@somnambulance Not sure where you are getting 2 games a quarter last gen from… the attachment rate for PS4 was an average of 9.6 and 13.8 games per console according to all the metrics I’ve seen. That’s lifetime of the console not 8 per year. That number just sounds wrong.
@Oram77 They don't have to pick the VA's themselves, that is what great localisation is for. See recent Dragon Quest, or Ni No Kuni. Hire a great localisation company to do it justice. A shame.
100 hours is the opposite of a selling point for me.
I like what Expedition 33, Sea of Stars & Chained Echoes all did making the main campaign around 25 - 30 hours. If you really wanted to go deep on those games you could stretch it to 50+, but 100+ is just too much. No sale.
@PuppetMaster It stutters pretty badly frequently on my PSP, and is even worse on iOS. You are right it isn't by any means unplayable, but it does take you out of the experience, especially when its the music glitching.
@PuppetMaster War of the Lions was never a definitive version, it had too many issues, especially performance.
The WotL cut scenes were odd in that they only existed for around 10 different scenes throughout the game. Many key scenes didn't get them. Personally I found that more jarring than anything.
I can do without the other main added WotL content too i.e. 2 random classes and 2 other FF characters. None really impact the game.
The best Final Fantasy story for me. The layers of political intrigue and characters motivations all felt so real. So glad it's been made for another generation.
Additionally I LOVE video games - 4 decades with thousands of games bought and played attests to this - but I don't base my whole persona around them, and don't typically wear gaming merch. What is there for fans like me? This is no reward.
Stop releasing slightly improved variations on the same system like mobile phone companies do, we don't want that.
Who is 'WE'? because about 10% - 20% of the audience DOES seem to want that based on sales of PS4 Pro and PS5 Pro. Including plenty of gamers here. It's OK to say it's not for you, but it's not OK to say "we" don't want that.
@Questionable_Duck I felt the same, but enjoyed the game more.
But I think trying, and failing, to get Trico to do what you want was exactly the experience they were aiming for, just ask any animal owner. But over the course of the game you each get better as your bond strengthens.
Whether that is more fun or frustrating, is a separate issue and more subjective.
It looks BOTH amazing and like a Storyboard concept that was never finished. As a quick trailer I like it, but not sure how I will feel about a whole movie of it. Only time will tell.
I guess if it leads to a spike in sales for them it's understandable, but it is confusing. I guess they have to recoup some of that money they burnt on Mindseye somehow!
@Oram77 @ShogunRok @Fighting_Game_Loser Possible but unlikely. Only 2 remakes have ever been nominated for "Best Game" at The Game Awards: Resi 2 and FF7 Remake.
As for "Best RPG" perhaps better odds but still only 3 have been nominated: Live a Live, FF7 Remake and (sort of) Persona 5 Royal. Only FF7 Remake won best RPG, the rest all lost.
I just read this article on the BBC and wondered if it would make the gaming news. But it makes sense that playing a heavily tactical game like SOCOM would help some people to better communicate, just as something like Moving Out can help some people's marriages... or hasten divorce!
@Issen_Mode “vast majority” being almost everyone I’ve ever heard talk about Bluepoint’s remasters. As I said you are almost the first I’ve heard complain, and certainly the most vociferous, and you are of course entitled to that opinion, no matter how niche.
@Issen_Mode That's almost a first time i've seen someone be so critical of these remasters/remakes, which are typically held up to be some of the best in the industry.
I realise there were some small creative changes that some didn't like, but the vast majority was a huge upgrade.

Respect for delaying to get it ready for launch and not just patching it after.

Amazing game. An all time classic.
Re: First PS Plus Extra Game for October 2025 Leaked
Nice get! Was on my wishlist, so that's great. I've never played a Silent Hill game properly (other than a few minutes in the fog on PS1).

Re: Ninja Gaiden 4 Isn't Even Out on PS5 Yet, But Here's Its DLC
@Oram77 Pretty standard fare for a lot of games, but especially Day 1 Game Pass titles that want to have their cake and eat it too.

Adding more… the games are already bloated and overlong… streamlining the experience would be controversial but better imho.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Ghost of Yotei?
I’ll play it eventually. But I didn’t love Tsushima as much as others, all a bit Ubisoft for me, so I’m not interested at £70. Perhaps at £35.

Re: Seriously, What's the Catch with Ananta? Free PS5 Open Worlder Looks Mental in Uncut Gameplay
What's the catch? It's a Free to Start gacha game where you pay in EITHER time or money, there is no way to avoid this.
Having put several thousand hours into Hoyoverse titles, from experience, I advise caution. They can be great, but also a time sink.

Speak for yourselves. Yes there are a FEW bad Pro versions, but these are usually on top of a litany of other problems in the non-pro versions.
Generally the Pro is a decent upgrade for many games. Seeing people without one being so salty is hilarious though.
