As part of PlayStation’s usual range of Black Friday offers, PS Plus subscriptions are going cheap, but there’s a caveat for existing members.
Sony is offering 33 per cent off PS Plus 12-month subscriptions at all tiers, and that discount applies to new subscribers. Current members who upgrade to a higher tier will get 33 per cent off the remainder of their membership.
To be clear, if you have a PS Plus membership already, you can’t extend your membership on the same tier with this offer; you must upgrade to a tier above your current plan. If you do, you’ll be able to take advantage of the discount.

It’s an approach Sony has taken before, and it’s likely done this way to prevent people from buying PS Plus in bulk amounts, extending their membership for years at a reduced rate.
It makes sense, but it’s obviously a bit of a bummer that loyal members who are happy with their PS Plus tier don’t get any Black Friday benefit.
The offer runs from Black Friday itself, 21st November, to 5th December 2025.
Will you be making use of this Black Friday PS Plus discount? Tell us in the comments section below.

Well that's a slap in the face to us "loyal" users ain't it...
I would definit... ohh noo, existing members screwed again... nevermind...
This will probably get a lot of backlash once again, but I fully support this strategy. These deals are to gain new members who hopefully stick around. If they were comfortable with these prices for all members they could just lower the overall price and don’t have these promotions.
I see these discussions with cable companies as well; existing customers always feel left out when new members get a nice gift. But they’re deals to gain customers. Nothing wrong with that.
@Darude84 billion dollar corporations are not your friends.
What if you are already on the premium tier?
@Darude84 Oh I completely agree they should be doing this to incentivise new players in, I just think the people who have been on PSN since the PS3 era should have some sort loyality discount or something.
I'm going to be allowing my premium to elapse because of this.
A real shot in the foot as usual and they won't learn until more people start doing this
I'll just wait for my sub to run out in 28 days and get discounted renew in december discount again
Does anyone know if we let our subs expire during the discount window, and then resub, would we get the discount?
Technically we'd be "upgrading" from having no sub.
No?
This has been a thing for years now. Most people who are interested in getting in on these sales have had plenty of time to get in on them, so that their sub expires in time to renew during the next years sale. Mine expires Nov 27th so I'll be good to go on the sale price.
@Shepherd_Tallon The only requirement is to not have an active subscription. People have been doing this for years.
I don't like doing the 12 month deal. Sure it saves money but if I'm not using it I can cancel it. If I like the look of a new month of extra I'll jump up but then straight back down. Gotta vote with your wallet. It's the only way big corporations learn.
@Sol76 You move onto the stratostier 👍
@Oram77 I think it’s fair (but not necessary) to give them some benefits, not necessarily financial ones. Thinking this exact discount should count for you every year (so always) seems excessive to me though.
@Sol76 then sir, you, like myself hear a giant whomp whomp
My yearly Premium subscription ran out back in September/October, and I couldn’t afford to renew at the time, so I've been paying monthly for Premium for the last two months, and my renewal date is on December 6th. 😭
Do I have any possible option, other than waiting for the likely sale next June?
For the little I used online, I got rid of it 2 years ago and haven't missed it. The few games I want to play online Lumines Arise and MK Legacy, I got on steam and they run great on my mini pc
@Sol76
Then they know you're probably a die-hard fan and you'll keep buying premium, so they don't feel the need to give you an incentive to stay.
Yeah thankfully my subscription ends on the 27th. So like last year I will let it end then resub the next day. I suppose each year I'm pushing that window back a day but shouldn't be a problem for a few years.
I always ensure my sub runs out before the end of the offer (it is was extended a few days until the 30th November due to Sony giving “free” days for an outage, but still before the end of this period.
Saying that, it’s never been a problem to extend at the discounted rate before even when subbed. Seems a bit guy and miss for who can and can’t though.
So if I cancel my subscription now would that make it so I can grab the discount?
My sub runs out on 11/30. So on 12/1, I can take advantage of this?
They used to be generous but unfortunately, it’s the times we are in.
I used to extend existing membership but can’t do that now.
Ill upgrade my son his ps+ essential to extra. An early Sinterklaas gift.
And it's paid off to let ps plus to lapse and wait until black Friday to renew
Not interested. I'm not a PS Plus member since last year and that lasted 30 days only because i wanted to get a discount for a bundle of Risk of Rain 2
Call it what it is - an upsell disguised as a promotion.
I think what I might start doing is have my sub expire just before Black Friday every year, that way I can then renew at a lower rate. Is there a downside to having small gaps in your membership, even if only a few days? Not as far as I can tell 🤔
Loyalty is rewarded with 5 fingers to the face.
The prices of PS+ alone are pushing me towards this idea of migrating to the Steam Machine
Do you get the discount if rather than trying to Stack you downgrade. So from PS Extra to PS Essential - Thinking of Upgrading next year to Extra, as this is only an additional £ 7.00 on a standard Essential Sub, - Then Next Year Downgrading back to Essential and seeing whether I could go for 3yrs - Hope that makes sense - Kevin
If your existing membership is about to expire before the deals go live, don’t expect to get the reduction by waiting for the sale. If I’m remembering correctly from last year, there needed to be a minimum of 30 days of your account not having PS+ to qualify. Less than that, and you’d be paying full price.
I understand the angst when Sony does things like this to existing customers. But imagine if we’d all cancel our service every time a company ticks us off? I know I’d be locked in a dark room with no electricity, no water, etc.
It's been like this for an age.
I just worked it so that my 12 month plus lapses during this sale period.
Which isn't hard to to do if you haven't done this yet. Using one of three month contracts
The trick with these sales is to align your subscription with one of the big sales(Black Friday, days of play, Christmas) and then every year the deal will be running at the same time your subscription runs out.
Sony screw over existing customers AGAIN.
Still, I suppose if you want to backup your PS5 game saves, you've got no option but to pay stingy Sony a minimum of £60 a year,
Meanwhile, PS4 owners just make sure they've got a pen drive to hand...
If you need PS+, buy discounted vouchers from ShopTo to save a few quid.
Currently subscribed to PS Premium which I believe expires at the end of January (or thereabouts)
I say it every time but this time I'm 100% dropping down to the essential tier.
It's not even about value or Money, I just don't really ever play any of the games on Extra or Premium so I'm just paying for a service that I don't use
So, I counted on this and chose to sign up at the very start of Days of Play. Hopefully, it can run out and I can sub for Premium.
@Kisrah
Damn, didn't plan for that!
If they took the Premium requirement away from cloud streaming, especially for games you already own, I would drop down immediately. I enjoy using my Portal too much now though, so I guess I'm stuck paying for it.
@sanderson72
If you want to back up your saves you can use a USB stick or a portable hard drive. In no way do you have to use their cloud service if u don't want to pay
@Monstermash40 if you get basic at 33 % off and top up your account using cheaper ps store credit ( I use shop.to) you save a further 12%, or thereabouts. If you pay the reduced cost store credit using PayPal and spread the cost for 3 months, you effectively get a year for around the amount you would pay for 3 months.
Ah yes, that time of year when I upgrade to Premium for a few quid, so I can play the three decent games they've added in the last twelve months.
Then it's back to Extra in March
Well, if they dont let me get the discount at BF, then I’ll do it next month at Christmas…
Same routine as last year then.
Let my subscription expire, resub at the discounted price and pay with wallet funds that were topped up at a discount.
And this is exactly why I let mine run out last year, then grabbed it on discount the first day, unfortunately those compensatory days they gave us earlier this year have pushed my end date forward a few days but I'll still be able to resub on the 28th, I also use PSN gift cards which are on sale and end up getting the highest tier for a year for about £70 out of my bank.
There’s a reason mine expires around this time lol.
I just have no desire to go to Premium, so this is the annual bummer. I get not wanting people to stack them years in advance, but it'd be nice if there was some sort of smaller discount to resub - like give me 20% off, or only allow a single year purchase.
@Anthony_Daniels You can back up your entire PS5 on a USB stick or portable hard drive, true. But PS4 game saves, on the PS4 or 5, can be copied individually to a USB stick without the need to backup the entire machine.
@djlard these sales are generally to entice new users or convince people to upgrade a tier. Why would they offer it to an existing subscriber if they are already willing to pay the subscription cost?
Can I downgrade from extra to basic with a discount 🤣
Kind of works for for me, planning to upgrade to extra until my sub runs out August ish for around £20 mainly so I can play Silent Hill 2 as that is less than I would have been happy to pay for it. Anything else I play off the service is then a bonus for me!
It's just another example (along with the Japan console) of Sony starting to exploit their new monopoly position and rip us off as much as they can.
There is nothing wrong with gamers bulk buying discounted subs for a few years ahead.
It's money in the bank and earning interest for Sony, for services they don't even have to provide yet.
Paying for years up front is also beneficial as you now have those orders in the bag and paid for, whereas for example those gamers might not be playing at all in 2 years time (missus got pregnant, lost job etc).
Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Better to take the money now, rather than hoping they still want the product in 18 months.
Fair enough if that is the game they want to play. Money goes into my ISA and as to whether I renew at all in a couple of years, or go back full-time to PC.....well who knows. That's a gamble Sony have taken....
This is how I ended up stuck on premium... Thought I'd give it a go for the low cost, now I either have to pay full price to downgrade or let it lapse and re-sub...
Same as it has been for the last few years. Lame and greedy.
Gee whiz! I ain’t gonna equivocate- this is just a tall glass of SUCK juice for loyal subscribers! Even if they are enticing newer subscribers by a superb discount, why can’t loyalty be rewarded? Even if it was half of the discount, it still would go a long way to show that we aren’t being taken for granted.
They need to let people buy a year if theyre close to lapsing. That free few days nearly knocked me over the date. If that happens again ill miss it
Don’t people who get in now will forever get a 33% off every year going forward because since their subscription expires before Black Friday, they just let it expire then get in on the deal the day after and get the discount.
Mine expires ON Dec 5th (because of the free days). I guess I’ll wait and see if I can get the discount or not :/
I only got a month runs out on the 1st december
@Unobtanium uff my 'extra' days pushed me to the 7th Dec. I wonder if they did this on purpose? so annoying.
@AccessibleDaydream I’m in a similar boat. I’ve just cancelled my sub.
They don’t honour loyal subs, they can have less of my money for a bit.
That works. My Plus subscription expires Nov 29, and auto-renew is disabled - because of a deal just like this, last year.
So the 29th or 30th I can subscribe for a year on whatever level I want (currently premium, because of a sale and a library of PSVR2 titles that used to be on premium, now I'll probably go for essential). Then next year I just have to hope the deal goes at least through the 29th or 30th.
It not amazes me that you guys have to announce this every year but amazes me that people will comment like this hasn’t been the case every year lol
I’ve just canceled. Times are tough and it’s a price I’d rather not pay right now. First time since the service’s launch I’ve stopped it, a shame but it’s what it is.
So what about the extra days they gave us that nobody wanted?
Stingy and so tight, how offensive and this is supposedly a black Friday deal, smdh 😤
This year I'm going to let plus extra expire and go back to essential, I don't have time to play the plus extra games anymore with how quickly they are removed from the service, it's simply not worth it.
I got extra days on my sub but I can't take advantage of any deals..exactly what is my motivation to continue subbing to extra when I get no incentive? I still think extra is a pretty good deal and I do play a few games in the catalogue when I get a very rare case of rally burnout but it would still be nice to save a few quid here and there.
@Oram77 Just have your sub set to expire in mid-November and you can get the discount. It's the same every year.
So what Sony are saying is I should downgrade from Extra when my renewal comes round to profit from future offers. Cool, cool, cool. Good info.
My sub runs out in half a year, so it might be an opportunity to upgrade my Essential to Extra in order to check out library streaming on my Portal. After that - we'll see.
Same as every year where people complain about the same non issue that applies to almost every single business. Companies will always give better offers to attract customers in, its the same with Internet, Phones and almost any sub service.
It may feel sucky but long term not allowing people to stack subs on the cheap probably helps keep the price more stable.
No surprises.... another year i cant use it....
While it’s disappointing, this is the same every year and so not a surprise.
Given the last portal update, might think this is a way to convince player upgrading to the last tier and go with the device as well?
For those interested, to profit from BF discounts on PS+ you can use 2 accounts.
Make a new PS+ subscription in one of them, for 1 year for example.
Next year let it end and make a new PS+ subscription on the other.
As long as both accounts are on the same console, all games installed on one of them will also be playable on the other.
Use wallet top-up cards/codes to refill your PS store wallet if you use an account for a different region in which you don't have a bank account (if you live in Europe and want to use a US account for example, Sony won't let you use a european card to pay for stuff on US playstore, but you can top-up the wallet on the US account and pay that way).
Sticking it to your existing customers is not part of the "Playstation exclusive" portfolio, and it's not even new...
Without proper legislation to prevent it, all we can do is find ways to stick it right back using various tools at our disposal.
They really want people to upgrade to a more expensive PlayStation Plus tier so they can announce to shareholders "subscription services income is flourishing" but in reality people are doing it because it's the only way to get a discount when paying for a subscription, most of my friends are now just letting their subscriptions expire and waiting a couple months to for a sale on "new" subscriptions.
The whole thing is very consumer unfriendly but I guess it works and some people just stay and start paying for a more expensive PlayStation Plus tier once they can't access any more subscription deals.
Kind of lame for Sony to pull the same thing again with PS Plus Black Friday deals. I can understand that they might not want people to buy 10 years of stacked Plus for 33% off, but they could easily limit that to one year.
I miss the days of $22/year of Plus deals. The last time it was $22 I purchased 15 years worth. People thought I was crazy. I ended up gifting out a few years to my friends, and my brother. The next deal I bought was 3x years of Plus 12 month subs for $33 each from CDKeys in 2020. My mom passed away that year, along with all of the Covid craziness that happened, I forgot to redeem them, and instead the auto-renew took over. I realized this in 2022, and when I went to redeem them they were EXPIRED! 😔 I didn't even think they did this for Plus y after two years. What's worse is that's when the prices jumped again to $79 (from $59). So it would cost me over $250 to buy those 3 years again , in addition to wasting $100 on expired codes. I reached out to Sony multiple times and they verified that my codes were valid, yet they wouldn't allow me to use them, or some other type of workaround. Their advice "wait for another BF sale" which of course existing members can't take advantage of!😡 I had been a Plus member from day one, never missing a renewal, and owned multiple versions of every Sony system since 1995, along with hundreds upon hundreds of digital and physical games, and my Sony loyalty gained me no help. Anyway, let my story be a warning.. CODES HAVE SHORT EXPIRATION DATES. Don't sit on them like I did.
Ive subscribed to premium every year for £80 on black friday, but Ive just realised that when sony gave us a free week for a psn outage this year, it has pushed me out of the black friday window so looks like I wont be subscribing this year.
Its worth £80, not worth £120
@AccessibleDaydream
I haven't read all the comments on this thread so apologies if someone has already answered you.
If the past 3-4 years have been anything to go by, there will likely be another similar sale at the end of January so if you're paying monthly at the moment, as long as you let it expire it on 6th January you should in theory be good for a discount at the next sale.
I've renewed mine at a discounted rate in January for the last 3 years
@TheSlythe
The past 3-4 years there's usually another similar sale at the end of January... If you don't mind letting it expire and do without it for a month or 2 you should be offered a similar discount at the end of January that you will then be in a position to take advantage of
@Member_the_game
Thanks. I'll keep an eye out.
It’s not a crazy deal but I feel like we probably won’t see better than this 33% discount in the coming year :/
Looks like I’ve got about 2 weeks to hu$tle and pop this bu$$y for that 90 bucks!! 🤑
@Darude84 I dong want the stuff if they make it easier to backup your System without wiping it and gave me a tier without games i gladly take it. I have a backlog of years and i rather have a cheap online only sub.
So us Premium users get nada? Nice, Sony.
That said, at the end of the day, $160 (MSRP) for an entire year with all the games, cloud streaming and saves, among the other random benefits and trials here and there, is not bad at all.
No, as always as an existing customer i lose out......is thwr any point, especially based on thw rubbish released ovwr thw last few months.
@Darude84 (#3) worst take in a long time. And I use Twitter.
@Dogbreath capitalism is and always will be a vile circle of getting ripped off. You just have to remember that it's working perfectly as intended. It's only that it isn't working in YOUR favor.
@PerpetualBoredom That’s it? No explanation? Just a negative comment without any context and that’s it?
It really blows that my renewal is on 12/28…🤣
@TheSlythe Not sure if anyone is still checking this... but I thought the same, however I was able to continue my subscription on the highest tier for the 33% discount even though my subsctiption was ending on the 7th Dec. So the headline now is actually incorrect! I was able to continue with the discount! Others check it now.
I checked the other day and it comes up at full price for me when Im logged in.
Luckily my PSplus expires on 1st decemeer and the deal is on untill the 5th so I should be able to take advantage
