Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was always going to sell well enough to top the UK's physical games chart at launch, but it seems it might not be performing quite to the degree you might expect.
While the game is currently number one, it's actually had a smaller launch sales period than its closest competition, Battlefield 6.
That's according to The Game Business' Chris Dring, citing data from GfK (which tracks UK game sales):
Perhaps more damning, Black Ops 7's physical launch sales are significantly lower than last year's Call of Duty: Black Ops 6; Dring says it's down 61 per cent.
Now, physical sales are generally trending down as adoption of digital games grows, but the difference between 2024 and 2025 isn't likely to be particularly big, meaning that 61 per cent downturn can't be hand-waved away by digital.

Steam's concurrent user count for the game has also been underwhelming; those keeping track say the game reached a peak of around 86,000 players, while Black Ops 6 peaked at over 300,000.
It's worth noting that SteamDB's page for Black Ops 7 now has a conspicuous lack of the usual charts people use to view player counts, suggesting perhaps that Activision has somehow removed the data.
Also interesting is this post from the official Call of Duty account. These posts typically hype up early sales numbers, or player counts, or any remarkable achievements and milestones — all of those things are missing:
When taken together, all these data points suggest Black Ops 7 hasn't seen the success we usually associate with Call of Duty. It's difficult to say whether the iffy campaign, use of AI art, or something else is to blame, but it appears the game is underperforming.
Here's the latest UK top 10 in full (physical sales only).
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 15th November, 2025

- EA Sports FC 26
- Mario Kart World

Im glad bf6 is smoking cod this year.
Too big to fail?
I can see Activision running around in a flap, probably very close to hitting the "reboot MW again" button after seeing what BF6 is doing.
This is what happens when it has good competition.
COD has rested on its laurels, others have improved.
Overall, I’m sure it will still sell plenty.
Too big to fail! Oops
Ms effect
They will even bring the biggest gaming franchises down. Well played.
I mean, the lack of sales/players milestone post is telling, no?
Also, the SteamDB chart that was supposedly missing is under App ID 1938090, it has been under that ID ever since they unified all CoDs into a hub launcher.
By jove that's a serious decline in sales.
Gonna be some accountability inspections going around..
That's what you get when you keep making the same slop year after year... It was bound to happen, especially when Microsoft Gaming entered the picture. Take a look at Microsoft's history in entertainment and media software and devices. There's a lot of products and services in that graveyard. Microsoft's approach to consumer and entertainment is productivity, which will never ever work. And they never ever learn, and keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I bet that in 5-10 years Microsoft Gaming will be VERY different than what it is today. And not in a good way.
Battlefield 6 and Arc Raiders are two very recent massive multiplayer hits who probably target a lot of the same people CoD does.
Things are not going to be any easier for CoD next year if GTA6 (now a multiplayer driven franchise) isn’t delayed again and hits in November.
Arc Raiders! ✊🏾
MS has killed COD!!!!
Ah, some good news =]
If anyone was to topple COD, I didn't think it'd be Microsoft, I'll say that much.
oh well, maybe cod blops 8 will turn it around next year.
I GENUINELY hope this creates a shake up in the COD formula, it's been pretty stale for a long time now.
@Stevemalkpus or they failed too big?
It would be nice to see BF6 actually dent COD a tiny bit especially with how bad BO7 is meant to be.
Love to see it, the more and more Microsofts spending spree comes back to bite them the better.
Haven't played a COD game at all since Ghosts. Haven't played one at any great length since Black Ops 2.
Saw some footage of the zombies mode on BO7 and it is completely unrecognisable from the game I remember. And it's not a case of just me getting old or nostalgia. I wasn't even a massive fan of BOP2 or the zombies mode in general. But this was a downgrade in every possible way. The entire feel of the game has been changed. The mood and aesthetics are just way off so it's COD zombies in name only. None of the genuine horror elements remain, just a cheap looking cartoon with one of the most hilariously terrible UI's I've ever seen.
I'm sure there are many reasons and causes for this but as a first step I'd suggest the devs put down the Monster drinks. The saddest thing is though that you can see exactly the kind of user base they're targeting. It would genuinely be a win for the games industry in general if they took a financial hit and not just a critical one because the sloppiness on display suggests a combination of greed, contempt and laziness that will only get worse if they think they can keep getting away with it. (See also every big game developer currently operating).
Thank God nobody paid $70 billion just to put this on a subscription service.
Cheap digs aside, COD was once a truly brilliant game that appealed to both single and multiplayer fans and I'd genuinely love it to have worthwhile campaigns again. So hopefully this can be a turning point for the series, as for far too long they've seemingly relied on the blind devotion of their players to buy every yearly entry
Interesting this one. Just from my perspective I was a long time cod player who fell off the hype train around about the time WW2 came out. I hadn't bought anything in the franchise until last year's Black Ops 6. I have to say when I first started playing I was happy to be back, it was like a comfortable pair of shoes I'd not worn for ages. However as time went on the game became an AI, microtransaction treadmill that turned me off, and it doesn't look like this has changed with this installment. I wonder if this sentiment is common, probably. It's a shame because BO6 was quite good when it came out and they could have kept a lot of players had they continued the high quality releases.
The game is lazy, ai slop. Just straight trash
Wow, that really is down quite significantly.
Some of the fans do seem kinda bored with it... Battlefield 6 has been very succsessful and Arc raiders is the hot new kid on the block.
It'll be interesting to see what happens over Christmas and what comes out on top.
Good! Keep that giant boss fight, online only campaign, AI art calling cards game off the charts
Call of Duty finally feeling that Xbox magic.
Call of Duty will always outsell "normal" games regardless, it's almost too big to fail.
The only thing that will stop Call of Duty is itself, and as long as they put out anything PAR or higher, they'll be fine.
Turns out the only COD killer we needed was Microsoft.
Seems like every studio that Microsoft buys eventually starts to go down the s****er and Activision isn't an exception. CoD is dead for me since 2011 and their last decent game was MW2 (2009). I just hope BF6 gets the recognition it deserves
@GameLord1
This dude actually created an account just to post this.
Amazing to hear BF6 is outperforming Cod this year. Well deserved and kind of a cool redemption story for BF. They weren't COD beaters before, but amazing shooters. Then went to total crap for years. Hiring Vince Z was a great pickup. Now not only back, but hopefully on top even when the US #'s are in
@GameLord1 @SeaDaVie What's crunchy roll? whats anime? Whatever, anyways, Battlefield is back babbbyyyyy!!!!!!
@windxtravelerx You're 100% correct. Seems MS/xbox have the reverse king midas touch now, ever since xbone. They've been urinating on themselves for 2 whole gens now. They had a few good IP in their stable that used to be pretty good, but now have no idea how to even release them as epic 1st party games.
Forza is the exception. But funny how they can only get the niche genre'd game right. Racing is Niche. Halo used to be their flagship/mascot. And they botched Halo infinite so bad lmao. F'ing up your own flagship franchise just shouldn't happen in a world
@GameLord1 By "MS and Sony are screwing up the games industry" lmao Sony don't belong in that preposterous statement. By sunday this will go down as the biggest "clown comment of the week". You will win honors. Even though you are just here to spew hate and prob have no idea what you are saying. Thats how ludicrous that statement is.
@GameLord1 you obv didn't understand my sarcasm. I know what it is, it didn't need to be explained. I was clowning your ridiculous statement. You having fun spewing ludicrous statements of hate on here about Sony. You mad about your beloved COD or something? Something triggered you here
@GameLord1 all i hear when you post is blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. have fun, i'm out. bye
The problem is one word - Microsoft. They drove their own Xbox brand into the ground over the past decade so why wouldn’t the same thing happen to this particular IP? It’s not like they haven’t done it to many other awesome IPs over the years. Not that COD is awesome anymore though.
physical sales only pretty pointless stat seeing as most people have moved over to digital. There will be an article in a few weeks how b07 was the biggest selling game of 2025
@GameLord1 Did you forget to take your medication today?
Edit: well that was probably one of the shortest lived accounts in PS history
@StitchJones this is physical sales only in one country even with this game being on gamepass it will still sell more than battlefield
@Toot1st it’s also worldwide sales from Steam which cratered even worse than this 60% decline.
I wouldn’t so sure it will outsell BF6 worldwide.
@Toot1st that's why i said "hopefully still on top even when the rest of the sales are in" I know this article doesn't mean it finally topped COD this year. But still good to see regardless, cause as I said, BF was in the crapper for years now its back into form and its great to see
top selling game, second most played game on xbox and PlayStation behind fortnite yet people here are celebrating the downfall cod. gamers these days are mental millions of people enjoy this series but that somehow upsets them
@StitchJones i agree its great to see battlefield coming back (mostly) but not by pulling down another game to get there, everything seems to be one or the other these days cod or battlefield overwatch or rivals whats wrong with enjoying both
I know its not a popular opinion and COD is such a massive game for people, but I would not mind if Treyarch, Infinity Ward or whoever took a year or 2 break and came back with a new game/IP.
We've had COD for like 23 years now, lets get something new going!
microsoft destroys game companies it buys..
Call Of Duty lost its identity long ago.
That "too big to fail" comment is going to bite them swiftly on the bum
Good let the game die
@Toot1st "pulling down another game to get there. what's wrong with enjoying both?" Lmao you sound like these games are human beings. Living breathing flesh, with feelings. They are video games, developed by multi million dollar companies. So you're making more negativity out of this then there is pal. I dont' have time for people like you. have fun on here. bye
I may not like or buy this cod myself (I've played on a friend's copy for the campaign) but blaming ms for this cod is pretty ludicrous. Absolutely nothing about this cod seems like anything other than exactly what Activision would've pushed out themselves regardless.
What's going to happen is the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' sentiment for the money monster cod is will suddenly find itself very much being scrutinised and 'fixed'. Then it'll be ms fault
@JB_Whiting Not just them but Microsoft, who paid a fortune to acquire it. Love to see a mega corpo suffer a flop.
@Cikajovazmaj
Fire all the devs! The CEOs however deserve a bonus due to all the stress this is causing.
I bet Blops 7 still sold a ton lol. Every year people complaining about CoD but every iteration still sold millions of copies. Activision knew they can sell slop every year and millions of CoD fans will gladly eat it and say "it's delicious!" 😂
But it's nice to see Ghost of Yotei still in the top 10. I think it will have long legs and next year when Legends mode come, more people will buy/play Yotei.
How the mighty have fallen
Why is Hogwarts Legacy still making the top 10 sales charts? Are people buying the game twice?
@JazzieJeff1975 I imagine its one of those games like GTA, Minecraft and Mario Kart whereby people buy it when they get a new console.
I have Gamepass and haven't even launched the game despite it being "free". I don't even need to install it as I can stream, but still it's too much effort to warrant clicking the "play" button.
Main reason is that I've seen campaign footage/reviews and it's garbage.
COD hasn’t been good since blacks ops 2 tbf, however, COD still ain’t going anywhere; even with flops like infinite warfare and vanguard, the series is still popular
