Terrible year for games. I've seen comments saying there have been good but not great games. Y'all need to play some of the games from last gen and wake up. Mass Effect remaster and the 4k versions of older games are way better than that top 5 combined. This year has had possibly 2 good games for the whole year.

The two biggest for me were Returnal and Disco Elysium. Both big let downs. Returnals okay, but veers too wacky and has some strange progression mechanics. It's frustrating rather than fun and I much prefer Nex Machina due to the camera position. Then Disco Elysium is again overrated to a ridiculous degree, it's new, novel and the writing is great. Wrapped in a monkey island style gameplay loop which went out of fashion on the Amiga. Slow, cumbersome with laggy controls and the game soft locked me due to gated progression. Appalling.

I've had more fun with Monster Hunter and Borderlands 2 than anything released this year outside of mass effect. Dire.

@Telekill agreed ME remaster was an absolute joy to play. My GOTY for sure.

How come we are getting a GOTY in November?

@colonelkilgore I don't think so. It's a looter shooter not dissimilar to diablo for its loot. Destiny is a kind of 2nd cousin removed. Worth having a mooch one night in SP and then we can get together for an online game in a couple of weeks.

I've been eyeing up the handsome collection we got on ps plus if anyone is down for a few goes?

I got quite far in BL1, put it down for some reason - I think my online and also unemployed att mates on the 360 ran too far ahead of me. Enjoyed it nonetheless. So yeah if anyone fancies running BL2 give me a shout/poke/friend request.

With the Italian plumber strapped across the box it would by a goty contender. As it stands I absolutely loved it!

Astrobot is obviously Astrobot so it's fuppin fire. And then I had a difficult choice. Nothing scratches my itches so far and Returnal is good but not amazing, Disco Elysium has soft locked me. So yeah not overly happy giving either of them a tick. So plumped for FFV7, free upgrade woop woop.

Now get us some more games Sony. Fed up with watching Xbox bringing the fire whilst we are fed scraps. 2022 can't come soon enough.

We all love new IPs. But honestly, I would sell my nan for the Order 1887.

Im in total disagreement. I hate the nurburgring, I can never remember the layout as it's bigger than my old Geography teacher who had bingo wings and bad BO. Missed a trophy because of that monstrosity. Both in my GCSEs and On PS4.

Great month but I'm really unimpressed by the online, online, online games we keep getting. They are simply not for me anymore. I think they should ditch these mainly online games unless they do it in combination with others. Like this month

Sony are using staff to develop these ports when we are crying out for PS5 stuff. I think that's fair and I want more games!

What's the point in buying into an ecosystem if it's games are being built towards the lowest common denominator - In this instance, low end PCs?

Is this PC centric direction because of Chinas appetite for PC gaming? And loads of Chinese companies are about to bring crazy good PC games out? They hardly have a console market to speak of. I think this is the most reasonable hypothesis. Sony and Microsoft are trying to cater to a new group of gamers brought into gaming through MMOs and mobile crap. Whoopee the golden age is behind us people.

Sod it. PS5 will be my last console. I'm taking up going outside and gardening.

@3MonthBeef good question, it's because the Japanese live in a very structured society and for the vast majority their limited spare time is significantly larger in their youth. This works in two ways, games are marketed at that younger audience and the older gamers get nostalgia from when they had the world at their feet.

It does my head in so you're not alone.

@Th3solution With subscription services, add ons are a HARD sell. PPV was a big sucked punch when cable/sky started dominating here in the uk as you start expecting everything for free. Exactly the same is happening with GP.

Sorry but the Yakuza team release games far too quickly.

I'm a big fan of Yakuza zero and then every game since has been practically the same with some minigames and characters replaced. Quality over quantity especially if you want me to play like the 20th game set in the same space.

As an amateur boxer and fan of the sport, this looks brilliant. Hoping for a great fight on Saturday, Deontay will have a better shot this time and Fury will be, well Tyson fury. Would like to see how Deontay / Fury does against Ruiz next too. Then possibly a unification match in the Ukraine

I can't believe people are looking at Balan Wonderland. One of the worst games ever made.

I thought it can't be bad for £15 in Smyth's. I was way wrong, it's so boring, the controls suck and it's worse than watching EastEnders. Bad design, terrible story and the pathetic characters.

FIFA is a now a tentpole. A tent which has a massive rip, broken zip and smells. The other 3 tentpoles are E Soccer, Madden and the annual WWE game.

Prior to psvr I thought the perfect games would be driving and first person games.

But its the worst travel sickness I have ever had. Wipeout I couldn't finish 2 laps so credit to the drivers of Auricom and Feisar.

Yay can't wait to play Hitman. Gonna snipe from the sidelines and tell everyone how terrible this selection is. Demon Souls / Ratchet and Clank or Miles Morales. They are the ones we want. Sony is now just a carcass left in a locker compared to the start of the PS4. Looking at this selection was like finding my wife killed by Santa. Funny for a second then you realise what's happened and it wasn't a rotund happy go lucky hairy guy with loads of presents who killed her but a slaphead walking barcode battler dressed as santa. The reality is Sony have to go big or go home.

Overcooked is a marmite game. If you like that style awesome, if you don't its monotonous and stressful with a less than elite memory.

As for Hitman 2, of course it's a great game. But when Hitman 3 is here it feels like a letdown.

Predator could be decent but the reviews are all bad so yeah. Not a great month for me. We badly need some big big games.

Big issues across multiple companies. This is gonna be big.

@zebric21 it was boosted by the pro and was amazing.

I know there isn't much love for second son. But for me, I played it through twice and loved it. It was my first 4k game (maybe checkerboarded but I couldn't tell) and those neon and electrical effects in HDR blew my tiny mind. So glad these assets got reused as this is one asset flip we can all applaud.

Such an important part of the review so thank you for pointing this out. I purchased Doom 64 a week or two back and it's frustrating rather than fun. The shooting is great but the route finding is rubbish. I can't ever see myself picking it back up.

Glad Quake is different in this regard.

I've got a PS5 and I can't believe how bad it is. The made up nonsense about the PS5 that is. The PS5 is boss and works like a dream. It's flipping massive though and Im not a fan of the dual sense due to the weird holding position, but the PS5 is great. Go get one and join us.

I would like GTA 6 before I'm dead.

I used a power drill and the screw broke. So now I use my PS5 in horizontal only. Wouldn't want the PS5 falling over and killing my family.

PS5 them farts out Astros Playroom, Demon Souls and Returnal. So there's another 3 genres taken care of.

If you want more first party variety then Im unsure what console you have invented.

I'm all for dlc of a full single player game and if its £30 for a 20 hour campaign with a extra fluff - I would rather have that than microtransactions. For one reason or another (Rocket League and Dreams) I didn't pick up ghost, so really excited to give it a go. So for me the diatribe I'm reading in the comments is hyperbolic. Now y'all can get back to paying £3.99 for 460 diamonds while the proper gamers have some fun on PlayStation 5.

(Or moan about £10 which is literally 5 bottles of coke)

I've got the money for £70 games but just won't. The problem with this weird price is it goes over a mental barrier of a night out into the void of a pair of Nike Air Max. Then the special editions at £100 you just can't warrant that kind of one off money for a single game.

You are just older mate. It's happened to me the last 12 months. I had psnow and it would have been amazing when I was school age. Home at 4pm, homework, tea, game till 9 and go to bed. Then on a lazy weekend. I can only dream of being available at 4pm most of the time and weekends? What are they anymore? With kids, cars, mortgages and other responsibilities it's difficult to find 40 hours to play a AAA game.

Gaming is a damn good and relatively cheap hobby, we have more games than ever and there is nothing stopping you jumping on some retro stuff. But your problem would likely be time especially as you've played manic miner and could be around my age.
