As things stand, Forza Horizon 6 is the highest rated game of the year.
The open world racer, due out on the PS5 later in 2026, currently commands a 92 on aggregator Metacritic – the only title to achieve a score higher than 90 so far this year, although Resident Evil Requiem and Saros both came close.
Microsoft hasn’t attached a release date to the PlayStation version of the Japanese sandbox just yet, although it’s still expected later this year, per its own media kits and press releases.

Apparently, dev Playground didn’t have the resources to get the port ready day one – a shame, because you suspect it would have sold outrageously well. Forza Horizon 5, ported several years late, sold over five million units on the PS5 after all.
Whenever it comes, we’d expect similarly strong reviews for the PS5 version, which raises a big question: is anything going to beat it?
The obvious candidate is GTA 6, of course, Rockstar’s long anticipated – and long in development – sequel.
As wild as it is to write, anything short of perfection will be seen as a disappointment here, and surely a score of 90+ is practically guaranteed? GTA 5 achieved a 97 back in 2013.
Then there’s the big September double-header: Phantom Blade Zero – the wildly promising wuxia RPG from Chinese studio S-GAME – and Marvel’s Wolverine.
While the former may be more unknown, Insomniac’s track record speaks for itself, with both Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 attracting particularly strong reviews. The Miles Morales spin-off, released in between, also scored well.
Other wildcards could include FPS Metro 2039 and remake Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, as well as Fable – assuming it makes it out on time.
And there may, of course, be other titles we don’t even know about yet.
