Unless it breaks around seven years of tradition, Sony will host a State of Play showcase in the next couple of weeks. It usually packs its showcases taking place in May (or the very start of June) with the biggest reveals the program has to offer, so excitement is generally high.
Therefore, as the summer season of gaming announcements, which includes Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase, nears, we're asking: what do you want from a May 2026 State of Play livestream?
What Could PlayStation Studios Have to Offer?
Of its currently announced projects, first-party developers within PlayStation Studios could help flesh out a State of Play quite nicely. We know Insomniac plans to share more Marvel's Wolverine information soon, ahead of a September 2026 launch. More gameplay and news, such as pre-orders and a Collector's Edition, surely seem destined for the livestream.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will likely have another couple of characters to reveal, and then there's Intergalactic. With the Naughty Dog title not expected until 2027, there's a good chance any new footage could be too soon for a mid-2026 update. If it wants a big pop, though, then a second Intergalactic trailer would do the job for Sony.
In addition, Fairgames will have to be shown off at some point.

State of Play is also a popular destination for brand new PlayStation Studios game announcements. But who is ready to show one?
Santa Monica Studio is strongly rumoured to be making a new God of War game that casts Faye as the main character, so that is a potential reveal for the livestream. While there are not many other reliable rumours attached to PlayStation Studios, other developers that could have a game ready to show are Media Molecule, Firesprite, and teamLFG.

Will Third-Parties Bring Much to the Table?
For many third-party developers with a game ready for 2026, the internal discussions will be around how they can avoid clashing with GTA 6 in November. While the Rockstar title itself almost certainly won't be in the State of Play, we expect to see many release date announcements that highlight everyone getting out of its way.
The likes of Control Resonant, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Fable, Halo: Campaign Evolved, Kena: Scars of Kosmora, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis are all big third-party games with a 2026 release window. You can presume many will lock in a safe launch date during the State of Play.

Sony will likely invite third-party developers to announce some entirely new titles on their digital stage, but given the size and scope of the development industry, making any educated guesses on what those games might be would be a fool's errand.
What is safe to assume is that there will be a couple of new third-party projects unveiled, and you should expect some promising indie titles to flank them. How about a Mewgenics port to PS5 or an update on Slay the Spire 2 for consoles?
Could There Be PS6 News?
Sony reportedly wants to launch a PS6 in 2027, so as we approach the halfway point of this year, we are maybe entering the very, very earliest period of when the platform holder could possibly mention the next system. Xbox is already doing so with Project Helix.
While it's now a reasonable question you could ask of a PlayStation livestream, we'd still consider it too early for Sony to start talking about the next-gen system — particularly in a regular State of Play show. The hardware maker has typically separated its main hardware launch reveals from the livestream programming at the time; in the case of the PS5 announcement, it made an entirely new one in the PlayStation Showcase.

As such, we wouldn't go into the presumed upcoming State of Play with any kind of PS6 expectations. The new console is on its way, supposedly aiming for a 2027 launch despite the community's want for it, but we likely won't see or hear of it this month.
Give it another six months, and that may be the time for Sony to start talking officially and publicly about PS6.
With those expectations set and out of the way, what do you want to see at the expected State of Play livestream in May 2026? Place a vote in our Poll and expand on your selections in the comments below.

I’d like to see some gameplay from intergalactic. ND have gone missing this generation and it’s time we saw something substantial. I’d also like to know if this rumoured handheld is really a thing lol
Right now I just want to get a good look at Intergalactic and Wolverine since they've been announced. I would be really happy if they show what other first party are working on but I would like to see them do more late announcements like Nintendo. When the game is ready and they have a proper release window.
I don't think there will be one till June. Most we'll get is a Wolverine SoP.
"Unless it breaks around seven years of tradition, Sony will host a State of Play showcase in the next couple of weeks."
Last year's State of play was in June.
"Fairgames" 🤣
I'm probably not interested in a PS6 ever.
We will definitely be seeing Wolverine and Marvel Tokon, and I dare say Intergalactic will get a first gameplay trailer and the new God of War game will get an announcement trailer. Hopefully we also get to see Marathons next map get revealed and a small surprise, maybe a remake of Ape Escape or whatever Media Molecule are working on.
For the third party stuff il be happy with any jrpgs shown, especially that one from Konami (forgot the name).
Would love an update from Media Molecule on what they're up to - PS5 has been missing their creative input.
Probably be interested to see what the Tomb Raider (3rd remake?) will look like.
And yes, I'd like a PS6 update - hope they've taken some PS4 UI and features into account for the new OS so we can bin this depressing PS5 UI.
My interest in first party PS output is at an all-time low. On the other hand, showcases always have the potential for some great third party announcements, so that's what'd get me to watch.
In term of game announcements, would prefer they focus on games we can expect to arrive before next years' showcase, with a reasonably solid release date.
If there is mention of anything further out, keep it short and vague.
As for a specific game? Wipeout. Obvs.
I don't expect anything for an event that not yet confirmed.
I think its far too early for PS6, but I do want to see more of Wolverine and Capcoms Onimusha.
Announcements of a couple of new games from Sony would be fantastic too.
Ive always had a playstation and like most of sony first party games but i have to say their communication with their audience is just as sh1tty as it gets. If it was the opposite and xbox were winning the gaming ground and sony kept this silence crap they would be gone already
Dark Cloud 3, I'll never give up on it.
Sony first party just isn't my jam anymore. I'm looking forward to Onimusha - I think that's the only thing I'm looking forward to for the rest of the year that would be at a Sony showcase.
I wonder if little devil inside will show up
My prediction is wolverine gameplay, marvel tokon new characters shown, kena 2 release date, big reveal will be Cory's new game, new ps plus announcements (hopefully the old goes), the fight stick price and release date probably with tokon. New idie games and third party game show. Also Saros might get a co-op mode dlc or something.
I'm excited to see which first-party team they shut down a week after the showcase if last time was any indication 🙃
Half-joking aside, I'm mainly looking towards third-party announcements for the next showcase myself as the state of Sony and their first-party studios is leaving me feeling quite disillusioned currently. My main hope would be for Castlevania Belmont's Curse to finally get a release date (plus maybe a 3D Castlevania collection alongside it as well for the 40th Anniversary) but only time will tell I suppose.
@Llamageddon game looks like it will be the deep down of this gen.
Honestly, this feels weird to say, but this year’s first party slate does nothing for me, so I’m hoping for third party updates. Unless we count Kena 2 as first party. I’m looking forward to Intergalactic too, so I’d welcome that, but I don’t expect it.
Give me a release date for Castlevania, Control, Onimusha, Silent Hill Townfall, or Tomb Raider and I’m happier than I would’ve been before the showcase. Unless there’s surprises coming, those are basically the only games I’m potentially buying this year (unless Judas pops up!). Maybe GTA, but I’m still not sure on that one.
very little interest in most stuff sony are making currently
ps6 18 months away
I hope there's no talk of a PS6. It's completely unnecessary at this point and is likely going to be wildly unaffordable.
What I want? Some news about Phantom Blade Zero. Another trailer or maybe actual gameplay would be lovely.
They aint gonna be showing off Fairgames in a State of Play lol That game is destined to die even if it turns out less terrible than expected.
Like someone mention earlier Sony 1st party games are too predictable for me these days, but I am loving Saros and Intergalactic is the only one im remotely interested in of the announced ones.
Bungie will announce they're working on Marathon 2 and will take Marathon offline.
Sony will re-open Bluepoint Games to work on Marathon 2 as well as all new live service games, as their whole business model will now be live service.
Herman will announce the PS6 name will actually be Paid Service 6 and physical games will cost £6 each time you load the disc to play.
GTA VI will be delayed again, now launching on the Paid Service 6 and the PS5 version has been cancelled. It'll also be a subscription-based game and called Give Thou Account as every month you'll be charged £60 to play and the only mode is GTA Online.
Or, it'll actually be decent and bring a little bit of hope back to the games industry. I doubt it though.
•Other: Confirmation of continued support for physical media on PS6 through either an internal (preferably) or external disc drive. Bare minimum PS4-PS6, ideally PS1, PS2, PS4-PS6, in a perfect world PS1-PS6 full disc backward compatibility.
Herman going to show off another live service game more than likely.
I would love a new Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Infamous with Cole. One of those would be awesome but probably unlikely
Showcase opens with Wolverine gameplay.
Fairgames is thrown in the middle somewhere.
Ends with GTA trailer 3, confirming marketing rights and pre orders live.
Intergalactic gets its own extensive State of Play in a couple months, maybe after Summer Games Fest.
I would like to see some gameplay of intergalactic and i’d also like to see some new first party single player games. I have zero interest in anything ps6 related!
I’d love a Intergalactic gameplay reveal, but i read there were rumours that Intergalactic might be shown at SGF instead of at the SoP. I can see that happening
I'd like to see more of Wolverine and Slay the Spire 2 just to mention the games I'm interested in that were brought up in the article.
@LogicStrikesAgain I think Intergalactic will get shown at both, one with a story trailer and one with a gameplay trailer.
I think Injustice 3.
Literally just show me a 45 second cinematic with a Horizon 3 logo & title so I have something to look forward to in the next 8 years
I want a 1024-player MAG 2, a new Motorstorm with full VR mode, Soul Sacrifice Echo and Tokyo Jungle 2: Revenge of the Platypus.
Apart from Wolverine, I have little interest in PS5 1st party stuff. I don't expect to see any hardware announcements, and the SEGA/Altus games will be with Xbox now.
PS6 news is the least of my concerns to be honest. Would definitely like more first and third party games coming to PS5.
First and third party, drop the live service strategy, focus on single player titles with occasional high quality single player AND multiplayer titles, like how the Battlefield games used to be.
Nothing that's been announced so far is all that exciting to me.
How about an RPG game from first party, thanks!
I can't believe that Sony hasn't invested in this genre....
Victory Heat Rally PS5 version
Games, games, games!
Ideally first party or 3rd party. Keep the games comin'.
Everything else is background noise at this moment in time
@yazzika Yes! i wanna see this too!
New first party for me please.
Gameplay showcase for Wolverine.
A new trailer for Intergalactic and the Kena sequel.
Phantom Blade Zero gameplay showcase a new trailer.
Would most love to see something for the Kotor Remake so at least then we know it’s not cancelled.
Living the PSVR2 pipe dream!
Honestly these don't interest me anyone. It won't make the games come out any sooner. Whatever they show is cool with me.
@Crimson_Ridley also Naughty Dog will announce they are remastering the remake of Last of Us Part 1 for PS6.
Lmao with some of the unrealistic expectations, as if first-party studios hadn’t been decimated this generation, most, if not all their studios lost half the generation trying to make a live-service that flopped or was cancelled, it’s gonna take a long time for all those studios to get back to work on a single-player game and be ready to show it, I’d say well into the PS6 generation…
For the entire remainder of this generation from PS Studios I only expect Wolverine, Intergalactic and that Faye God of War spinoff, anything else would be a welcome surprise but I honestly don’t expect as much.
I think what we'll see is:
Intergalactic I think will appear at Summer Game Fest considering Geoff events get a lots of Naughty Dog announcements.
Trailers, release dates and a giant enemy crab!
Kena Scars of Kosmora release date
@daedricwolf Aye first game was fantastic, Very much looking forward to the sequel.
As I wish for every showcase, I would like any news about Asobi Studio, and confirmation that Media Molecule isn't dead.
All I want is for the pain to end.
@Dubplant don’t forget to hit him in his weak spot
Just give me release dates of next Onimusha and Ace Combat, I don't need anything else this year.
Hermen Hulst being fired live.
@HRdepartment Your name being HR department made this comment 10x better 😂
I expect Barlog's next game to get announced.
Hopefully none / a minimum of Sid Shuman's fake smile.
1-Wolverine deep dive
2-phantom blade zero pre order trailer
3-faye god of war
4-maybe intergalactic
5-some new remake
6-some unexpected rpg franchise reveal like a new tales
7-ff9 remake 🤡
I want Uncharted 5. That would be all!
I have zero interest in whatever Sony is doing. I only care about what Square could be bringing next.
Would really like to see release dates for both Mortal Shell 2 and Lords Of The Fallen 2
Wolverine will.show its face but only a small trailer with a state of play announcement for it at a later date.
To me Naughty Dog need to show us Intergalactic, they've really lost a step in my eyes this gen. Honestly if intergalactic isn't some masterful epic game, im just going to be hugely disappointed. They lost to much time on the live service.
Honestly I truly hope that Santa Monica and Cory Barlog haven't made a spin off to God Of War, I enjoyed the 2 new games but it just isnt worthy enough for more tales outside of Kratos. Such a waste of talent and widh they'd try something new. We may see a tease for the new game its about time really.
We will get no PS6 news, they wont want to hurt the sales for GTA 6, I expect maybe Feb 27 at the earliest for a ps6 reveal if they are going to release it and then october time launch for the new console. Thats if we are going with the runour that they are sticking with a 27 release.
I mean the fact is the PS6 really has to be nailed down by now and leaving it any longer could make it obsolete by the time it comes out and would have to rethink it.
I don't care much about stuff coming in September or beyond - show me what's coming this summer. Less hype, more deliverables.
@Pat_trick that certainly would be great
We need see intergalatic and other sony 1st party games maybe a new astro bot game and a god of war game spin off wolverine will get irs own state of play i bet. i hope fairgames as been cancelled fingers crossed the 3rd party stuff will be great always is anything capcom
Not expecting to see anything related to PS6.
They need to double down on Fairgame$ and devote the whole showcase to it.
Update for Wolverine and Intergalactic. I don't want a new announcement from them, because if they do, it will not be released on PS5 anymore.
Would love to see a new Turtles games, hopefully with the same kind of visual fidelity and direction as Wolverine. I would give the Direct a 10/10 if the next Insomniac or Naughty Dog was a TMNT entry!
What is bend studio doing that should be interesting. Word up son
Only thing that really interests me now is indie games. Dont care one bit about Wolverine, Intergalactic, and especially the most overrated game franchise of all time Grand Theft Auto....
I hope for Star Wars Zero Company release date news
I would love to get a look at whatever Media Molecule is working on.
I would like to see the return of Uncharted or The Last of Us. Obviously this won't happen soon since ND are finishing up with Intergalactic.
Call me generic, but I miss the 'normal guy with gun in hand fighting regular humans that Uncharted and The Last of Us offered. There's is a lot of Sci-Fi and Fantasy stuff in PlayStation now. It's cool, but I much prefer the grounded down to earth stuff ND used to provide the other PS Studios don't delve too deeply into.
I'd be happy with a Forza 6 release date.
Token Bloodborne 60fps (or remake!!) news
In a sort of "such a massive dose of hopium I have to be hospitalised" kind of way, DQXII would be nice. On a more basic level, a confirmation and date for Fable.
Driveclub and motorstorm remasters please. Fat chance 🤣
@Gaia093 suppose it depends what first party it is. I mean a new GT will sell bucketloads. Anything from insomniac and ND will doubtless be decent and shift millions. Media molecule always garner interest in their unique titles. I just wish Bluepoint were still a thing as anything they made was absolute quality
@Superstar74 there are heavy rumours of something Motorstorm related and I’m crossing all my fingers and toes for it 👊
Let me get a surprise announcement of a lost odyssey remaster 😉
Wolverine gameplay, Kena release date and preorders, I know it's a long shot but Little devil inside, and new game announcements
Jeez dont tease me! That would make my year 🤣
I’d say Judas news but I’m starting to get a bad feeling about that game.. Ken Levine is apparently trying to perfect something but I think it’s gonna be a case of ‘too much - taking too long’
Mewgenics would be nice as I have thousands of hours in Binding of Isaac and this game seems just as fun
I’ll be happy with Wolverine news too as well as a look at the next Spider-Man/Venom entry..
Dare I dream of an official look at Rocksteadys next Batman game.. not this LEGO crap (though it DOES look amazing).. I never got around to the Arkham Trilogy back in the day and by the time I was ready I was already spoiled by realizing the difference in 30 and 60fps 💀
Resident Evil Requiem story DLC and the next season of content for Street Fighter 6.
Some psvr2 announcements would be nice like a vr mode for RE9 etc.
Psvr2 would be amazing, it's a great platform and just needs some love from Sony
kind of crazy , and yes i know every rumor ever should be taken with a grain of salt but we've heard rumors of uncharted , and now recently the infamous rumors have made their way around again. hopefully we see trailers of silent hill 1 remake , re:code veronica remake as well soon.
We PSVR2 users got utterly ignored in the previous event, so I sure hope we see some proper news this time.
It was really strange that there was no mention as we’ve been getting such huge titles, and we hear-tell there are others waiting in the wings.
C’mon SONY — please throw us a bone or two!
LFG #PSVR2! If you weren't excited for this, you should be!
@lacerz come check out the Gamecat community on PSVR2 Without Parole. You won't regret it.
Come on Sony, show some respect to your PSVR 2 users, let's enrich that catalog even more, an open world game would be amazing, or something like Fallout, Borderlands or Skyrim would hit the mark.
Sony needs to show that they care about PSVR2 and give that platform some love.
It would be nice for Sony to show some support and respect to their PSVR2 community. At the very least port over Wipeout Omega and Astro Bot from PSVR, or fund RE9 VR mode. I invested day 1 and own over 80 PSVR2 games. Support your amazing tech like third party developers are! #ForThePlayers
I HOPE for PSVR2 news! Wish we could get an ASTROBOT game and RE9.
C'mon Sony show PSVR2 some love. The people who have invested in this amazing piece of kit are your most loyal customers, I have personally got 100+ PSVR2 games from the Playstation store. Anyone on the fence about buying PSVR2 take the plunge you have not played Grand Turismo or Resident evil until you are actually in the game via VR
What I would appreciate the most are surprises. And in particular surprises with psvr2 support ... .
Maybe it is necessary to burn names into people's brains. Personally, I do not have to see a zillion of trailers about the same game stretched over multiple years, I am fine if a game is presented once and then released a couple of weeks or months later with a big enough reminder to ensure that people haven't forgotten about it. But maybe that is not sufficient anymore, in times of far too many quality games which seem to look like no games at all to many people.
I know it won’t be but I’d love to see gta6 in the state of play just to watch the internet explode!
A hybrid Version for PSVR2 of a AAA game would be AWESOME 👌
( my personal favourite would be Kingdom come deliverance 2)
Wolverine, Intergalactic and that rumored GoW spin off
Marvel Tokon is the game I'm the most eager to se more/play
Would love a killer psvr2 game, something different than a fps/shooter or rythm game (even though I enjoy them). Maybe an update to read 3D Blue ray
In my dreams, the team from absolom and streets of rage 4 shadow drops a new beat them up xD
5. I'd like a Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake official reveal.
4. At least 2 headline-grabbing new IPs.
3. Tomb Raider won't be delayed, and everything is going smoothly
2. They will abandon $70 games.
1. Mixtape 2
I want to PLS GOD SHOW ME MORE KINGDOM HEARTS 4 GAMPLAY REVEAL OR MENTIONINGS PLS!!!!
Some PSVR2 content would be great. Not really expecting it but it is what I'd like.
Psvr2 takes gaming to another lvl. Makes flatscreen games look retro lol
Where the hell has this PSVR2 community invasion come from? You thirsty MFs lol.
Games I actually want to play XD
PS6 I think will be a while before we see details on it.
Whatever 3rd parties to highlight (unless we see further returning details on them, some do, some don't).
PSVR2 games if they still want to show those off will be good.
1st party I don't care for but I know need to show enough of themselves at this point after the live service setbacks, or development/IP setbacks and whatever 1st party ones are still actively being worked on.
Will we see an outsourced 1st party IP like God of War 2D PS5 was no clue, I'd be up for it but who knows if we do see more of those.
They can't keep throwing 3rd parties at these (not a bad thing and the ones shown vary on Sony making business relationships with many and it shows and that's totally fine).
IF we see enough big IPs that aren't live services/gacha overpowering other multiplayer or singleplayer then sure. If not then yeah easy pass. XD
Indies that are decent. The ones i browse for are more my thing then these shows anyways.
I get they fill out things for sure but at the same time there is only so many you can have.
If they want one 1st party per year that's fine but they cut back many of their studios, shoved them into live services and whether far enough along or not were never going to be shown till done.
So Sony has ruined themselves and has to have 3rd parties padding things out (as great as many are even if most don't interest me)
@AdamNovice PSVR2 Without Parole community has some serious diehards for VR lol
A Sony funded official VR mode for any of the following would be absolutely incredible;
Astro Bot
Cyberpunk 2077
RE9
Forza 5 or 6
GTA 5 or 6
The Last of Us
@AdamNovice
I think it's cause it was an option on the poll. I voted for it kinda as a lark and then over 60% of people agreed. If I didn't know better id assume that psvr2 was corporate espionage the way Sony has neglected it.
That streamlines into why I have zero excitement for the next state of play. Sonys 1st party output has slowed to a trickle this gen; most of my games are from 3rd party devs. Where are all the Lost Legacy type/size games? Why the complete lack of 2nd party development while Bungie, fairgames, media molecule get shovelfuls of cash? As a psx lover it's beyond infuriating
