Re: PS4 Is Closing in on 100 Million Units Sold, and It's Inline with the All-Conquering PS2

makoshichi

@I_Like_It
Actually, the most visually impressive games usually come out in the latter part of a console's life-cycle, as developers have figured out most of not all quirks of said platform. This gen, for instance, DMC5 is surprisingly a graphic achievement, I remember Beyond: Two Souls being the most visually impressive game I had seen up to 2013 (back when the PS3 was in its last legs); that sort of stuff used to happen even way back in the NES and SNES era.

Good consoles don't show "age", they show maturity

Re: Dangerous Driving - As Close as You'll Get to Classic Burnout on PS4

"With the developer's staff strongly tied to Criterion's series [...]"... Probably the understatement of the year as Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, the two main people behind this game are actually Criterion's founders. It is a shame they didn't optimize the game for launch, but that ain't holding me back given that the review also fails to mention that this is a budget title, tagged at USD 29.99

Re: Talking Point: Should All Games Have an Easy Mode?

makoshichi

@get2sammyb What's the problem? Games are getting easier and easier. Back when I was a kid we had this thing called "NES hard" and I miss that. I also resent that the industry has steered away from it and headed towards the opposite direction. And then I come across an article asking if games should be even easier which I can't even disagree? Give me a break.

Re: Soapbox: Sony's Server Shutdown Strategy Is Making the Publisher a Laughing Stock

makoshichi

It is just plain naive to think that every server for every game we play nowadays won't be shut down some day. Ever since gaming started steering towards online, this has bothered me to no end. Things are getting even worse with all the cloud streaming bullcrap of late. I can still play my copy of Megaman 2 and will always be able to until my NES explodes (and after that, I can pay someone to fix it), but will youngsters from today be able to say the same about their childhood favorites 50 years from now?

Re: Game of the Month: Best PS4 Games of March 2019

makoshichi

DMC5 is everything I need right now. Given that I don't have a lot of free time to play videogames anymore, I'm still halfway through and loving every minute of it. I am one who's not very keen on major character changes in well-established franchises, but V's gameplay positively surprised me. A lot.

Re: Devil May Cry 5 Sales Already Top 2 Million

makoshichi

I'm still in the beginning, but it is a fantastic game. V's fighting style is just sheer fun, and I am known for opposing drastic character changes in my favorite franchises. I just can't stomach Raiden for instance, and even Nero took several years and a reboot to win me over. So yeah, it is that good.

Re: Reaction: How Will Google's Stadia Affect PlayStation?

@kyleforrester87
"Once streaming naturally becomes the most viable option"
So, 2039 then? If ever. Sammy's first argument should be enough to convince anyone of how stupid this idea is: "why would you ever blow 20GB or more of bandwidth streaming a 1.2GB game like Celeste [...] with added input lag". And that's Celeste, a pixel-styled 2D game. Imagine streaming a so-called AAA title in 4K/60fps, as they claim to be possible. Even internet providers would have to improve their infrastructure in order to something like that begin to become viable.

You may feel safe in relying on "the cloud" (which is just a fancy name for the internet) for your every need, I'll keep my stacks of physical media and terabytes of locally installed crap, thank you very much.

Re: PlayStation Could Have Fresh Competition in Stadia, Google's New Game Streaming Platform

makoshichi

Everyone got their panties on fire because they wanna play with MatPat. For me, it was a pretty uneventful keynote and so far I'm not impressed at all. We're a long way from having decent internet connection to everybody so gaming through streaming can be feasible and even if that wasn't an issue, I like owning my sh*t, the idea of a subscription-based future only sounds terrifying

Re: Massive ANTHEM Day One Patch Should Smooth Out the Game for Its PS4 Launch

makoshichi

@kyleforrester87 It works both in favor and against gamers. While the eventual update isn't bad, particularly after user feedback (something simply not possible up until a couple of console generations ago), it also gave devs the possibility to release unfinished and bugged products, because they know they can patch it later. In the old days they'd just push the release date forwards a little longer; I don't even think it is fair (to us) how they abuse those updates these days.

Thankfully not everyone is like that, and the games you mentioned are good examples of it

Re: Guide: Best Free PS4 Games

makoshichi

@optic_efun11 I haven't played the first Titanfall at all, and put only a couple of hours into the second one's campaign mode, but I really liked how movement feels in TF2, and Apex feels just like it (apart from, ya know, double jump and wall-running). Respawn Entertainment might have only 3 games in their portfolio, but if this track record is indicative of anything, their upcoming Star Wars game might finally allow me to let 1313 go.

Re: PS4 Was the World's Best-Selling Console in 2018

@rjejr
Nah dude, I find it hard to believe you don't understand what I did, but there we go: If I "combine" your posts, and it doesn't even have to be those two in particular, it becomes clear that you are the guy who likes to bicker. Which turns out to be a disappointment because, like I mentioned, I seem to be the only one who agrees with what you said about shipped units versus sold units, but as it stands, I don't know if you really mean that or you're just doing this thing that you like to do, that is disagreeing just for the sake of it.

To make matters worse, you're sidetracking because I called you on your BS about Microsoft.

Re: PSN Alone Generated More Revenue Than the Entirety of Nintendo in 2018

makoshichi

@JJ2 @PS_Nation

It is not as much regarding to what has been said rather than how it has been said. I mean, if I didn't like my PS4 and the "Playstation family" as a whole, obviously I wouldn't be hanging around here, but like I mentioned in another post on this article, I feel like this news takes a jab at my dormant Nintendo fanboy side. Dormant being the keyword here, as I didn't even know I still had it in me. Heck, I do not own a Switch nor a 3DS, but it seems like I'm gonna have to remedy this situation after the events that took place this afternoon

Re: PS5 Backwards Compatibility Suggested by Sony Patent

makoshichi

I don't think Sony will turn their backs to the x86 architecture, which would make running PS4 games on the PS5 as easy as running older PC games on newer machines. Certainly the PS5 will be powerful enough to have spot-on emulators for the PS1 and 2, even improved versions. But that PS3 though... I'd still keep a couple of them as I don't see anyone being able to tame and emulate that beast anytime soon, and I don't think Sony would risk to include a Cell/RSX combo in the PS5. They surely must have learned their lesson with the PS3 launch
