It's a game that seems primarily focused on encouraging children to convince their parents to pay massively over the odds for inane microtransactions, so this tracks. Why does anyone even care? The artistic merit ship sailed for Call of Duty like a decade ago.
What I'm mostly surprised about is that they've completely thrown their art style out of the window for an IP that hasn't been relevant in twenty years. If you're gonna throw animated characters in at least do Minions or whatever the kids are into these days.
I'm only here to say that I came into this list expecting to be annoyed and then I read it and it's almost exactly the way I would have ranked the games. I'd maybe swap 4 and 2 but otherwise, this is exactly what I think about MGS. I don't think I've ever agreed with an internet list before. Quite a turn of events.
I really wish they'd make a rule where you have to announce this stuff so we don't have to do the whole buy game, play game, someone finds AI pish, drama time cycle.
That way we could at least make informed decisions on what level of AI dreck we're willing to accept. Like, this I'm not so fussed on, but really, how hard is it to write background seasoning text like this? Clearly not very, if you're willing to accept something you didn't even write. So just write it.
But we're at the tipping point, and seasoning will suddenly become the side dish, and before we know it the whole meal. We should know what we're supporting before we buy.
This seems like a weird thing to do. Like, even dismissing the ethics of using AI for something like this, surely they know that there's plenty of drama surrounding the involvement of this kind of AI, and they're using it for leaves? Just make a leaf.
I can't remember the last time this happened, but a few weeks ago I was totally lost with what to play and felt like an RPG and I had my finger hovering over the button to buy Diablo 4 but I didn't and ended up playing something else. This is a rare PS Plus win for me.
I know I'm just one man, but I can tell you based on my actions what I think one of the big problems this thing has is. I was super interested in PSVR2 but I didn't buy one at launch because I didn't expect other people to buy it, which meant that it probably wouldn't get great support, which meant that it would probably seem like a wasted purchase, and with so many conventional games to play without having to spend half a grand on new hardware I decided to wait for it to play out.
I'm not Nostradamus - those things were pretty easy to predict. So I wonder how many other people made the same choice. And so it's not necessarily a lack of interest, but more of a lack of belief that it'll sell and thus be supported. I'm certainly glad I didn't spend money on it.
It's one of the best games ever made. I can't remember another game that made me feel like that. I felt almost sick playing it. Really intense. But it's not one I go back to. Amazing, but its a bit much. All in all I'd rather be playing Cyberpunk or something.
I quite liked the story just fine. Like, it's not great. I'm not sitting there for weeks thinking about it after I've finished the game. But it's a perfectly reasonable yarn that gives you enough reason to run around smashing fools up with a sword to a kick ass soundtrack. On paper the story might not be up to much, but as a part of the whole thing, the game has great vibes.
I'm not a fan of Gamepass at all and think it's wildly destructive to the industry, but if you're Square Enix and you're porting Final Fantasy XVI to Xbox you've got to put that thing on Gamepass. Take the money and run. Because it ain't gonna sell.
It's basic stuff. Imagine the demographic you're working with. Your target audience is the crossover point of people on Xbox that are still buying games - small - and JRPG fans that for some reason bought an Xbox instead of a PlayStation - presumably small. Sure, there'll be stragglers. But it seems like a non-starter.
I feel bad for them, honestly. I feel like Xbox has done them dirty.
There's games that you could see being $80 and you're like, "yeah, okay." Like if The Witcher 4 is $80 I'm fine with it. I played The Witcher 3 three times. It's enormous. Value rich. Grand Theft Auto, that kind of thing.
But I feel like you've got to be flexible with this pricepoint. Presumably Grounded 2 isn't going to be $80? It's a smaller game. You'd expect it to be less. Outer Worlds to me is somewhere between the two and it should be priced appropriately. $80 really seems like a stretch.
But then people cried about the Switch 2 price and that boycott doesn't appear to be going so well.
I am absolutely thrilled by this news. Silent Hill is my favourite Silent Hill game, and I did have a hope that they might do it after the success of Silent Hill 2 but I honestly didn't expect it. This is amazing news.
I don't know why but it really annoys me when sequels change the naming conventions established in earlier titles.
Anyway, I will probably play this. I liked the other two rat games, even if I think people did go a bit far with the praise for the second one. They're fine.
I was excited when this was announced but the tiny amount of footage shown and lack of even a hint at a release date seems to indicate this is miles away. They were probably pulling a Bethesda and announcing it just to try and keep fans off their backs.
That said, I'd only seen positive reaction to this until I read this article so I don't know. Maybe it's another case of the loudest voices being the ones with an axe to grind.
I can't believe they did a "one more thing" for Call of Duty. Like, we know. There's always another Call of Duty. You might as well be announcing Monday.
I'm surprised by the reaction to this, particularly in light of how positive a lot of people were about State of Play. They were pretty equivalent to me. Geoff got better reveals, State of Play was much shorter and had less slop - not much in it though.
At this point, as long as Phil Spencer doesn't come to my house and punch me in the kidneys its hard to see how Xbox can possibly not have the best show this week.
It was a load of multiplayer slop and incredibly similar looking fella-with-sword-fights-demons things, but it did have a banger Resident Evil trailer at the end so yeah I'm okay with it.
The secret exclusivity deal never made any sense and it still doesn't. It's not impossible, but it seems incredibly unlikely since Sony makes it pretty clear which games are subject to exclusivity, timed or otherwise.
I'm really into Zenless and I like the idea of revisiting these games for reviews because as you say, some of them barely resemble the games that were originally reviewed. Excited for the Infinity Nikki re-review after the recent catastrophies. Will it be a dumpster fire by 2.0 or will they sort it out? Answers on a postcard.
Regarding this, I've been saving my in-game pennies for ages and I'm only going to pull for a character I'm into. I really want the fox samurai lady but I'd already missed her when I started playing. I'll try out the new one and see if she's my kinda thing.
I must say though, I very much have no interest in having to think about crafting a team. I'm glad that the game allows for you to kinda just pick the ones you like. My team is the police lady, Nicole, and Vivian. I guess from Googling it you're not supposed to have all three the same element or something... I don't know. I did that because I thought it made sense. I don't really know what's going on. But I like playing as them so it works for me.
Looking forward to checking out the new area/character/etc!
I'm surprised some people are so bullish on that State of Play. To me it was basically the same as every other State of Play. A little better than normal perhaps. Still has most of the same positives and negatives as always, and as always I can understand why people are upset about it.
Okay. Better than usual. Started strong, went downhill precisely when Digimon showed up. Final Fantasy Tactics is a win. Bond looked good. They spent a lot of time on that Marvel fighting game so I guess they think that's a banger. I dunno. Yeah pretty okay.

Re: SEGA's Accidentally Outed Sales Numbers Put a Lot into Context
Interesting. Yakuza is about where I imagined although I am surprised Infinite Wealth isn't a little higher. Gaiden should be higher because it rules.
Everybody play Yakuza.
Shoutout to Persona 5 Royal though.
