Stellar Blade Goes Nuclear on PC, Obliterates All Sony Single Player Records on Steam

Common W for Shift Up. I have also bought the NIKKE DLC to show my support. For the people that make fun of this game and call us who like it "gooners", do me a favour and actually give the game a go. Yes the story can be improved (trust me I know), but the level design, music and combat are extremely well made, and on the Pro it looks stunning.

Good for Shift Up. Another well-deserved success. Stellar Blade is one of my favorite games of the generation and it deserves all the love it gets!

Stellar Blade has also outperformed at launch on Steam very notable games released in the last year or so which have also recieved high praise from reviewers. Not just Sony published games. Pretty impressive that, a mobile developer’s first non-mobile game blowing MANY games out of the water at launch.

I think with the current state of humanity, it was clear very early on that Stellar Blade was going to be a hit.
However let's be real here, that success had nothing to do with whether or not it was going to be a good game....

It isn’t a perfect game, but for a studio’s first non-mobile game? It’s an incredible achievement.

If we include Stellar Blade, 4 of the top 5 do not include the region block.

Maybe Sony should really back down from that stupid decision.

@AdamNovice But they were "true" Sony games where this isn't and neither is HellDivers which was another PC success. Seems to me the majority of PC gamers have an issue with Sony directly.

Hopefully this will push square enix to make a NieR automata sequel. Eve definitely needs competition from a gothic lolita, so they are both the best possible game.

Come on Yoko Taro! Make a sequel and shout your love for Shift Up. That'll be enough to market the game.

Awesome to see for a really fun game. I'll pick it up on sale. But I've been watching my friend play it and it's been good ol harmless fun. Slaughtering mobs with the awesome combat cause she's really good at the game (better than me 😂). Laughing about the outfits, and just exploring every nook n cranny now with even more to find

@MrPeanutbutterz I have to say, I just couldn't get into sekiro. Tried twice (managed to get further than lady butterfly, at least!) But in-between getting lost and just not getting on with it, I put it aside. Recently got the plat for SB, and while I kinda agree, I just did find it easier to play without getting distracted or lost. It's a much more linear game, let's say.

That said, after getting pretty good with perfect parries and dodging, I'm now more excited, and ready, than ever to give Sekiro another try!

@Anya-chan Wait till you find out the that vast majority of "gooner" games bomb and don't even reach the west. Stellar Blade has done well because its actually got great combat and is in technical terms flawless. It played and performed like Mindseye it would have bombed hard.

@J2theEzzo Yeah that's fair. I'm the opposite - got the Platinum for Sekiro, gave up on SB around the halfway mark.

I've played all the Soulsborne games, so didn't find navigation in Sekiro too obtuse, but I know if I went and picked my save file up today I wouldn't have a clue what I was doing or where to go.

i love the game play elements and music and atmosphere - is the nikki dlc game play satisfying or is more about the skins like the neir dlc?

Impressive, I hope it doubles the concurrent players this weekend. Also worth mentioning is that Stellar Blade costs more than the other renowned games on Steam from PlayStation.

Sex sells, who would have known. Also helps when the gameplay is great and the story is still better than most AAA games these days.

@KundaliniRising333 I think that it makes all the difference. Plenty of games with attractive girls covering themselves as little as possible on the playstation store. Yet most of them fail. I just checked out the new games section and it's full of "anime girls", "succubus" and the like.

It's not just that "sex sells" as a lot people assume. It's more nuanced than that.

PUBG is #1 at over 3 million.
Black Myth Wukong at #2 with over 2 million.
Palworld at #3 with over 2 million.
Counter Strike 2 at #4 with 1.8 million.
Monster Hunter Wilds at #5 with 1.3 million.

Stellar Blade hasn't even topped Starfail which reached 330,723 players concurrently.

This game seems to have done marginally less better than The First Descendant. Anyone thinking it was going to be as big as Elden Ring, Monster Hunter and Black Myth Wukong on PC were just lying to themselves. Sex sells but not that much apparently lol.

@TruestoryYep The first Descendant was F2P, Stellar blade isn't, so I wouldn't down play the success of the game.

That said, Stellar Blade has done better than several AAA games recently released in the last eight months or so. I’d name them, but it didn’t go well for me the last time I did so!

It probably helps that an entry level graphics card from 2016 is enough to run this game on PC. Might check it out myself.

Ofcourse your article doesn't even mention the real reason, that the games that declined in ccu were region blocked in the majority of the world and as a result got massive declines from their previous parts (God of war ragnarok, spiderman 2).

Stellar blade, I had to specifically mention it to their twitter that there game was being region blocked by Sony (which they weren't aware of!) and its now the first game in years that isn't region blocked and is actually available in the world. The major reason for this CCU.

I understand this is a playstation website but its so incredibly disrespectful that everyone of you western journalists don't even point it out because you're not being affected yourself. Steam is much more global than consoles.

It’s at the top of my Steam wishlist, but the surprise launch of Lies of P: Overture means it’ll have to wait a while longer. Which itself must wait in turn for me to finish Horizon: Forbidden West which I’m only a third of the way through so far (including Burning Shores). So much to play this summer!

@MrPeanutbutterz It's the only one of their titles I've particularly struggled with, but I can well see how, after beating sekiro, other games might just feel a bit derivative.

As someone who grew up mostly on PS2, this game is one of my favourites of the 'modern' gaming era because it made me feel like I was a teenager playing something that was still relatively new and refreshing again. Yeah, it looks way better than PS2, and the story could definitely be fleshed out and tweaked a bit, but for just being fun, it's hard to beat. I know modders will do the obvious, but I'm pretty sure most of those players are just playing the game.
THPS 1&2 gave a similar feeling, so I'm hoping 3&4 will equal if not surpass StellarBlade.

As somebody who refuses to buy day one games at this point I actually broke my own ethos and bought this on launch on PC. It's a good price full price and was on launch sale, why not?

Idk if it's just pc smoothness or a year of patches but I'm finding the game far more enjoyable than when I tried it on PS5 launch. It's quite good. AND works beautifully in VR making it amazing for me. And Sony stopped requiring linking to PSN, also great! Ok really surprised how it's hooking me in a way it just didn't last time.

Maybe this will remind publishers that you can get more sales with lower prices than just charging a million dollars at launch. Or just that models in catsuits sell. Either way.

It was a great game on PS5, this is well deserved. A bit simple at times but the character customisation and skills were good. A fun platinum for sure

@J2theEzzo For what it's worth, I struggled with it initially too. Granted, I had it on the PS4 Pro at launch, and the framerate was highly variable (which made parrying a complete chore at times).

I picked it up again last year, and PS5 locks it to 60FPS. Went in with the mindset that it isn't an action-RPG, rather it's a straight action game, and I got on a lot better with it.

It was also the game I played right before Stellar Blade released, so maybe I'm a bit unfair/biased against SB as Sekiro became one of my favourite videogames ever.

It's a really good game, but it's very clear why it's selling so well on pc. I'm fine on PS5. Same goes for ff7 re.

@MrPeanutbutterz I think it's worth it.

Playing it on hard/ ng+, it particularly requires you to make a full use of the suite of skills at your disposal, but it (mostly) never feels unfair. The platforming aspect definitely isn't as refined, but I reckon the combat holds up nicely!

And so it should. Can't wait for the sequel.
