Oh god, I've been playing this morning. It's utterly horrendous. I don't say that as a Fifa fanboy or anything - I've not played that in a couple of years either, but this is shockingly bad.
@JuggaloRazzam I'm using a powerline for the PS5 at the minute as the router is in the livingroom and the PS5 is in my office. I get <30ms ping when playing games online, and downloads are usually around 250mbit/s via that connection. You would think that was so much more than required, but it just doesn't work well. I'm in Scotland, maybe the nearest serving exchange/Datacentre isn't too nearby!
Or... maybe if I plugged directly into the router as you say it would be all good lol, but it's not an option until maybe one day my girlfriend actually finishes Grey's Anatomy and I can go into the living room again.
@RubyCarbuncle man, I'm running a Gb connection at home and the thing is still horrendous. All I wanted to play was the MGS collection and it's unplayable for me. Maybe it's my area or something but I get sub 30ms ping on the PSN so I just don't understand why PS Now works so terribly!
It's hilarious that no one would have messed with the model (or at least if they did it wouldn't be a big deal) had the talent agency not said anything. Now though if it goes to PC this guy's deeefinitely going to be in all sorts of places doing all sorts of things, and everyone's going to report on it.
Deathloop and Horizon for me! I wasn't very impressed with the most recent footage of Kena unfortunately so that has dropped down a good few places for me.
Honourable mention for Witcher 3 - that could shoot up the ranks once we get some footage. I tried to replay the PS4 version recently and after playing through some incredible looking open worlds like Red Dead 2 and Valhalla in recent years, Witcher 3 is starting to look quite dated indeed.
Yeah totally, jesus man I'd have been 100% lost 100% of the time without that lol. I suppose I meant that I couldn't get immersed as easily because I was just following the wind all the time to the next marker I had set rather than exploring naturally.
GoT was really good but I did struggle to get totally immersed in the world. If I don't have a map on-screen I will get lost, all the time. I end up in the start menu looking at the map constantly and that just breaks the immersion even more for me.
That said, I still did like 70 hours and got the platinum so I dunno wtf I'm complaining about.
Lots of little things to fix for the sequel but overall a beautiful experience.
Also I have had a trophy bug or two but refused to move on before it popped. Had to beat one or two bosses multiple muultiple times. Wish I had just left it until I was more skilled and my weapons were OP because I'm absolutely beasting the bosses for fun now.
Ahh, I thought it was the recent system update that had caused my Activity Cards to start working properly again. It has been a bit of an annoyance this past week or so trying to complete the surveys and having to cross reference my data log with an online guide to see what was missing from which Biome. Regardless, it's working again for me
Looking forward to seeing how that glider plays into the open world exploration - that and the advanced climbing. I was a bit disappointed to see that we'll still be looking for certain "climbable" areas, but as long as they're really common then I suppose it will be fine. Grappling hook also looks cool for some fast-paced fights and traversal. And of course, they had no choice but to update the close combat mechanics because those were dire in the first game, but still it's a very welcome change.
The underwater sequences seem to get a lot of hype, and while they do look beautiful for sure, I'm not a fan of underwater levels at all so to be honest I hope they're infrequent or optional.
It remains to be seen if the PS4 development will restrict the PS5 version, but at this stage of the PS5's life it is to be expected that the game will be cross-generation, so I can't complain really.
All in all, I'm very excited for this. Also, I'm not sure when I started to really like Aloy as a character but when I saw her just then I was unexpectedly stoked.
I hadn't noticed a single issue up until yesterday when I beat Ixion at the end of biome 2 and noticed my trophy didn't pop. Spent most of the evening beating him multiple times until it eventually popped, and on the last run I noticed some frame rate issues and then the audio glitch described in the article. It was extremely annoying if I'm honest but at least Ixion is now an absolute cake walk should I ever feel the need to beat his ass again.
I've also never encountered a Deceased Scout before? Or is this where the data logs are and I've just never noticed a body?
Got to the boss of biome 3 late last night and got pied on the first go, so that will probably be tonight's mission!
@Alpine021 I remember seeing those posters before it even came out! Pretty sure it's based on like E3 "best of show" kind of awards. BS marketing that looks even worse now it has actually been released.
I own this game, it's sitting on my shelf, but I still consider it as "not out yet". Like, I just can't bring myself to play this knowing the potential it had and what it currently is. I honestly hope that one day I log in here and there's an article headlined "Cyberpunk finally lives up to potential". I'll put the disc in my PS5 on that day.
I've been a bit of a detractor of The Last of Us Part 2 in the past, but I hadn't played Ghost of Tsushima until this week. Spent around 10 hours with it and am completely underwhelmed. In terms of Best Game from the list given, I suppose it has to be TLoU2. Not a strong year for me though.
Kena looks beautiful so I'm excited for that, and I didn't catch FF7 on PS4 so will hold off for the PS5 release. I have no idea why that dodgy looking dodgeball game keeps getting promoted but whatever. Returnal looks less appealing to me every time I see it as well if I'm honest. Overall pretty lackluster.
@stupidget I have no opinion on Ariana Grande, but she has 220 million Instagram followers. That's someone you want saying good things about your game. Fact.
@Quintumply no option to turn it back on right now though? Fair play to them for jumping on an issue that quickly but I’d personally of prefer to have it. Games like this need to be democratic to succeed I suppose though, so whatevs.
I like the gameplay for the most part, it's just that the game itself seems really barren. Like what am I working towards here? Also where has the voice chat gone?
@Col_McCafferty It's not an argument, just thought it relevant since the article is specifically about The Last of Us 2 overtaking Witcher 3 as the most awarded game ever.
Anyway, they're both great games, but my point is that TLOU2 isn't my favourite game that came out last year, and if The Witcher 3 had come out last year then TLOU2 would be down one more place on that list.
I just don't think that as many people had the same "mind blown" experience playing this game compared with The Witcher 3. I don't think it will live as long in the memory, and it wasn't my game of the year.
I mean, you can only win Game of the Year in the year that your game is released, right... but if this and The Witcher 3 had come out in the same year, I'd just be interested to see the outcome there.
Personally I put 130 hours into this, enjoyed it a lot, got the platinum, and have moved on.
I have no idea why anyone would want to buy additional outfits but to each their own I suppose. With regards pay to win, I'm not sure that applies to a single player game, particularly one that is really quite easy at least on normal difficulty.
Review scores don’t mean an awful lot to me but the content of a review does. Even if it is just opinion - enough people share the same opinion it makes it ever more likely that you’re going to share it too. So there is a benefit in having lots of reviews and sites like metacritic who compile those reviews.
However, I prefer to pick a reviewer that I like and dig into his or her coverage of the game. Tom Marks at IGN is my guy this time round - plenty of coverage out there from him, he did the review, the preview, has talked on multiple podcasts about it etc. He also shares the same sensibilities as me regards what makes a game good or bad and our opinions line up pretty much exactly with older games. So until he that day when we eventually have completely diverging opinion, I just go with whatever he says tbh. 🤷🏽♂️
That’s a shame, I’ve got fond memories of the original and was hoping the new game would be one of those “looks as good as you remember” ones even though it would in fact look much better. So... disappointment all round on that front.
At this point I don’t want to see it before March 2021. I’ve spent too long waiting on it for it to be a shambles at launch. Granted I’ll be playing on PS5 so probably won’t see many of the issues as they seem to be concerned with current gen, but still, what difference can they make in a couple of weeks? Seems like they’re setting themselves and the fans up for a fall. Just push the thing out and let staff work at a comfortable pace like human beings.
@God_of_Nowt My mrs works for VMB so we're getting the residential broadband on the cheap - upload speeds are dire in comparison to the download of course but it's of no consequence to me.
Gig symmetrical will be absolutely beautiful though, enjoy! If I know VMB though (which I do as I worked there for a couple of years ) they'd absorb a few k of the cost of civils, cable pull etc. if they weren't in the area, and pass excess costs back to yourself to take on - unless you agreed insane rentals I suppose. But this LilaConnect bunch sound good. I'm jealous!
@Veturius @God_of_Nowt haha! I thought we might be having a GB/TB mix up there. Autocorrect - improving download speeds since 2020.
But yeah, I'm on a gig down although I've never actually proved it, I get about 500Mbps on the phone, 200 on the laptop (no ethernet port), and my consoles are in the office which is a bit away from the router so never bothered trying them.
I provide fibre circuits for a living and spend all day checking out 10G/10G circuits run perfectly but don't bother to make sure I'm not getting shafted by Virgin Media residential. Go figure.
I've largely ignored Origins and Odyssey so to be honest I'm praying for great reviews. I'd love to get stuck into a great open world on the PS5 at launch!
Really looking forward to properly exploring and getting a feel like I really know the map over time. This has been difficult for me recently with huge maps being the norm. Give me familiar streets packed with content!
@Exlee300p It's just one guy's opinion. If you want to play this over any other game that's your choice to make. Also, I don't know if you've got more info than me as to what different scores mean, but from what I can see, a 3/10 just means Bad. And this game doesn't seem good...
