This is the first time we've written about the Metal Gear Solid movie Sony is supposed to be making since March 2015, which should tell you all you need to know about the project. Essentially, it's in the very same position 2021's Uncharted big-screen adaptation was in a few years back. However, there appears to have been a big breakthrough as Deadline reports the project has picked up Oscar Isaac as Solid Snake. The Star Wars actor will join director Jordan Vogt-Roberts as the film begins production at Sony Pictures.
This adaptation is said to be based on the 1998 original game from the PlayStation 1 era, with Derek Connolly writing the script — previous work including Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Avi Arad has signed up as producer. Do you think this movie project will see the light of day? Speculate away in the comments below.

"...Derek Connolly writing the script — previous work including Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom..."
I was already dubious of JVR's involvement because I hated Kong, but no one involved with those awful Jurassic World movies should be near a Metal Gear Solid film.
Isaac's a decent choice for Snake, even though I'm not completely enamored with him.
He’ll do! Just get the thing made now.
@RBMango "Not yet! It's not over yet snake!" who do you think should play liquid?
Oscar Isaac is a great actor, happy with the choice!
@DualshockInfinit A young Rutger Hauer would have been my dream choice. Realistically, I think Robert Pattinson would be great. He could convincingly play an older man. Ryan Gosling would be good too. Bring back their subtle rivalry from Drive.
More importantly... there’s no way they would be making a movie about a dead game franchise would they? Gimme that Bluepoint remake 🙌🏼
He’s a brilliant actor, shafted badly by Star Wars same as John Boyega so hopefully this works out. Still dubious about fitting MGS into 2 and a bit hours but hey, worth a shot.
...but that’s Big Boss in the picture.
@Thrillho Yes, I know.
Sounded good until the writer of Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom was involved. The writing/story and overall film was not good at all.
That said, I don't want a movie adaptation of my favourite games anyway. As long as we only see video games in comparison to movies we're just going to get more story/cinema focussed games at the expense of innovative gameplay (though people's love for Naughty Dog shows I'm in the minority here)
Oscar Isaac may work as a young Solid Snake, I’m just skeptical that he can pull off the gruff voice. Although this was my same worry with Henry Cavill as Geralt and that turned out fine. Not that stoked about the writer. Fingers crossed.
@pip_muzz Well it’s more that he’s Colin Trevorrow’s writing partner therefore has worked on his films. That includes Safety Not Guaranteed which is really great so it’s not all bad.
Young Keifer Sutherland would have been great,
The voice and all
Oh wait he did do the voice at one point right ?
Tom Hardy might have been good also 🤔
Also: Lance Henriksen would make a great Revolver Ocelot!
Also not a fan of Fallen Kingdom at all. With that being said, J.A. Bayona is generally an excellent director so there was probably more going on behind the scenes...
Is this movie supposed to be based specifically on 1 of the games - I'll assume Metal Gear Solid b/c I think that's the game that really got the franchise going on PS1 - or just the Snake mythos like a Bourne Identity movie?
Lot's of games, I think I've played half but only MGS really holds up and stands out to me.

@rjejr "This adaptation is said to be based on the 1998 original game from the PlayStation 1 era"
Clint for revolver ocelot!!
@DualshockInfinit
A wholly different actor than Solid Snake would be problematic for story reasons...
@DualshockInfinit if he buffs himself up a bit, Tom Hiddleston would be a good choice
@rjejr isn’t twin snakes a remake of metal gear solid?
@RBMango Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom is the best sequel since the original film. Your opinion isn't fact sweetie.
Oscar Isaac? Solid Snake.
Fallen Kingdom writer and Avi Arad? Raiden.
@DualshockInfinit Oscar Isaac in a blonde wig and a goofy British accent.
What about Ocelot though!?
@jmac1686 The original film wasn't a sequel. And Fallen whatsit was shiiiiiiiiiite.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Not a very big fan of this choice. I think he's a very solid actor but they should have gone with someone like Wyatt Russell
@jmac1686 I agree with them, the first one was pretty entertaining but Fallen Kingdom was the worst Jurassic park film by a wide margin. Man did I hate that movie 🤮
@LiamCroft ""This adaptation is said to be based on the 1998 original game from the PlayStation 1 era""
Thanks for the clarification. I did see that. But why would you write that, rather than just simply writing what game it's based on? "This adaptation is said to be based on Metal Gear Solid". Have you seen the list of all of the MG games? Why write "original game" when "Metal Gear" was the original game? Why write "era" instead of just Playstation 1? Is there some minimum word limit you're required to reach per article?
It's like if someone made a movie titled "The Life and Times of the 8th President of the US" rather than calling it "The Life and Times of President Buren". 🤷♂️

@DualshockInfinit "isn’t twin snakes a remake of metal gear solid?"
I'm pretty sure it is. But if I knew for sure then I wouldn't have had to ask. And Liam would be in a better place right now.
Holy crap! I just scrolled up and saw all that!
Snake Eater. If any of the games are being made into a movie, it HAS to be Snake Eater.
@Uromastryx
Yes! Keifer did the voice of Venom Snake in the most recent mainline entry Metal Gear Solid V.
I’ll have to disagree on the Tom Holland suggestion though lol
John C. Reilly for Solid Snake, or no ticket sale!!!
@rjejr out of your list, I think I have played 19 of the 41 releases! Although I have probably miscounted, I'd imagine I'm more or less accurate
Not the best choice. He has the looks, kinda, but the voice is way off, unless he can sound more gruff.
It's a shame Scott Eastwood can't act at all, because he'd be perfect lol.
Oscar Isaac is a Solid choice, and Jordan Vogt Roberts is visibly passionate about this project, what you can't say for most directors of VG adaptations. Kings of Summer and Skull Island were fun movies.
Liam Neeson as a old snake woulda been badass
@nessisonett That's true. While Fallen Kingdom wasn't great, his other writing credits seem fairly decent, he even co wrote that original Episode IX script that most people seem to think was a more satisfying conclusion to the Star Wars saga than the one we ended up getting . If anything, I'd say Avi Arad producing is more of a concern, given how his meddling led to Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 becoming bloated, lacklustre films.
Great choice! I'm very happy with it. Also really like the director and writer. I think this has a lot of potential to be a really good movie.
@ralphdibny But did you play the one they are basing the movie on? 😉
I played MGS, 2: Sons of Liberty, 4: Guns of the Patriots and about the first hour of 5: Phantom Pain. So I'll call it 3. I did play the MGS PS1 disc on a Dreamcast using the Bleemcast disc so I think that should count as two. 😎
Oh, and the demo of Revengeance. Always meant to play the whole game, but, ya know. 🤷
Does every video game become a movie now? It's extra weird since games keep trying to become movies.
Oscar Isaac is a fantastic actor so yeah i'm fine with this casting. Even though it would be hard to do because they're two different races i would love to see Kurt Russel as Big Boss.
@rjejr Well you definitely win the award for most pedantic comment of the week!
@rjejr I will definitely play the one based on the movie based on the video game with a digitized Oscar Isaacs face pasted over solid snake, mortal Kombat style
@LiamCroft Who is going to present it to me, Gal or Brie?
@ralphdibny The game of the movie of the game will have Ratchet's face superimposed over Oscar Isaacs superimposed over Snake's face. 😁
Terrible choice.... Why not Kieffer?
@ralphdibny Please tell me you’ve seen Street Fighter The Movie: The Game. That’s literally what you’re describing and it’s a complete dumpster fire.
@nessisonett lol of course! Don't you remember my first quiz?!
@ralphdibny Ahh yes, of course!
Oscar ruined star wars, will ruin mgs
@MemSec Ed Harris as Ocelot for me. I bet they will have The Rock as Raven lol.
