I hope this doesn't lead to more prolific review bombing.

This has been available for PS4 games on consoles in Singapore store for quite a while. Guess we were one of the small beta testers.

Nice to see but as with the Xbox store, it will be full of bad spelling, grammar and nonsense before long. And it needs to be on the console store or most will never see the reviews. Also, still no basic info like screenshots or videos on the web store? Still pretty useless.

It amazes me that both the console and web stores are barely fit for purpose when they are the only digital storefront for Playstation. No DLC category (the amount of content I never knew about for games I may go back to is insane), no New Games category anywhere, many new games never appear in the filter by Newest Release Date or it displays a load of Just Announced titles, it crashes regularly, Wishlist has been utterly broken for months, etc. It's slightly better than it used to be on PS5 years ago, but far from perfect.

I'd love to see a site do an article about these issues to find out why Sony seemingly don't care about their store. Alternatively, Sony needs to source a different company to build their storefronts as the current one is incompetent.

At first I suspect Sony will probably review the reviews.

I hope you are allowed to rate/review games even if you didn't buy them off the store, never understood why that is the case...

@Oram77 I can't see that being an issue as long as there is some sort of save file on the system. I also think a minimum play time should have to be logged, even if it's a minimum of an hour or 2. Should help cut down the bombing of games.

@Kidfunkadelic83 No, what I meant is, say I have Silent Hill f on disc, and if I click on "view product" on the dash board which takes you to store, then click on the "rate the product", when I click on it, it says "purchase product to be able to rate". bare in mind the disc has been inside my PS5 the whole time.

I suspect I'm to see a lot of "woke" this and "DEI" that. This game was made for the "modern audience" and it pushes an "agenda". 🙄 God help us!

Maybe a dumb question, but where is the screenshot from? My Firefox web browser store doesn't look like that, also I don't see the option to add review, not even to the games I bought with money.
Also since you can only rate games you actually own (digitally) and even those are funky sometimes when there's PS+ version or multiple editions, I'm not worried about "0/10 it's woke" reviews since nobody will buy 70 dollar game just to post bad review.

Does review bombing exist? Of course it does. But I also think that is a very convenient excuse to dismiss other people's opinions.
Sometimes, a lot of people are calling your game crap because a lot of people legitimately think that your game is crap.

@katamariUK the ***** store crashes your PS5 too when you're browsing it? Well, I'm not the only one having this issue, so this is definitely Sony's fault. I'm not surprised

@LifeGirl I looked up reviews for Ghost of Yotei on Metacritic and someone gave the game 0/10 with the review being "RIP charlie Kirk" are you saying that's a legit review?

I was afraid they would enforce review submission with something completely illogical like having a certain amount of play time or trophies in that game, but I'm glad they gave it some additional thought.

as someone who mainly buys games that are in the at high 80s, mid 80s at least on metacritic i feel like i don’t need user reviews

what the point of it is if those reviews are only on the webpage
many people browse the store on their consoles so not being able to see reviews really defeats the purpose

Good update. Most people just give every game 1 or 5 stars, which is ridiculous

Not a great move imo as the star rating is currently good enough. Also unless they heavily moderate it and actively remove reviews that contain rage bait red flags it will just be another target for trolls. If they are going to do it, then at the least they should also tie it to a minimum time played (5h) to ensure reviews are from a proper sample of what a game has to offer

Good decision. No stupid trolls review like "0/10, woke game" that plagues metacritic for years.

Although, i prefer the star rating which is simple and clear.

So it's more or less like the review system on Xbox, plus a spoiler branding system. Can't wait to see a ton of joke reviews lol.

@Hapless Ain't it! I have mostly positive reviews for a game of mine but one such review claimed one of the reasons it was bad, was because it is a pixel art game.

Really glad to see this coming. Have been wishing the PS Store would get this for a long while. Hopefully even if we can write reviews rn on console that hopefully we can view them on console

Just a bathroom thought but maybe because people who buy physical media usually avoid PS Store save for a few games/DLC.

@CielloArc I have a mix, it’s dumb. Having it in your library should be sufficient.

So, I can tell who plays smaller games here I feel like. The reviews aren’t for AAA games so much as games that are smaller. I shouldn’t have to go to Steam to see if a small game or indie game is good or a real game or the rubbish slop they let on to the store now. This will sort that out. Crazy it took this long and now that it’s only on web. It needs to be on the apps soon.

The trouble is too many obnoxious people ruin review systems like this these days.

There used to be a time where if I was not sure about a game, I would look at user reviews on metacritic etc. These days, all too often you just find large numbers of reviews 'bombing' games for completely non game related things - often, but not always related to political agendas.
If a game is truly bad, or has numerous bugs / bad performance etc, fine, give it a low score, but people pushing political or other agendas has just become far too common.

@Oram77 gave a recent example, but I will give another - which coincides with the last time I bothered visiting the site.
DAV last year was a very good game, unfortunately you didnt have to look far to find numerous 0 scores submitted by people who clearly had not played the game and were rating it based on 1 scene * they saw repeated over and over again on Youtube.

I can see that some might not think the game is a high score, due to real opinions, but all too often people were just 'bombing' - frequently the 'opinion' wasn't even there own - they were just regurgitating someone else's opinion from YouTube etc.

You always used to see a bit of this sort of behaviour eg on any new Sony game where the fanboys of other consoles would go rubbish the game, which was ridiculous in itself, but sadly its become too much now.

Reviews rating games at 10 where they have significant issues running, are also becoming more common too. This is just as annoying in my opinion - Im presuming these people don't have literally magical consoles that simply don't experience these problems!

Edit * Im not trying to say this scene was good either - it really wasn"t, even in context - but it was just 1 poorly thought out scene in 1 story of many, and other scenes in this story were much better thought out.

@Rich33 not only do these crazy reviews suck because they are mindless nonsense spewing things they've been told to think that take away from genuinely good games. But if you have a legitimate reason to not like a game as much, your genuine opinion gets lost in the wave of nonsense and that, to me, is the worst part of it.

Legitimate concerns get left behind. And usually they feature in the most genuine reviews.

A good example is the Witcher Netflix show. It isn't bad because it's woke nonsense. It isn't bad because it's not like the games. It's isn't bad because of one weird decision (did Eskel turn into a tree? I have forgotten a lot about the show, thankfully, haha) It's a bad adaption because the showrunner didn't like, understand nor respect the source material and therefore it lacks the original soul. It almost had some moments or glimpses of something, but mostly it lacked quality and had no real long term direction which meant it got worse and worse as they tried to link things back together after making some weird changes. But it is probably enjoyable enough as a standalone thing for kids, teens and general consumers of content who don't know any better.

Extreme reviews never help anyone, is the base of what i'm saying, anyway. And it drives a culture of people trying to make up for it on the other side. Although someone being excited and rating a game they love in the moment a 10 is far more forgivable than someone rating it 0 or 1 because they have insufficient minds for an original thought of their own.

Nice idea and a long time coming, but not if the reviews are anything like on Xbox. Surely AI can provide half-decent moderation?

If there’s a star rating system, then it makes sense to post reviews justifying the rating you give. I don’t see the downside, unless it’s just too difficult to see opinions you disagree with. The solution to that problem is to ignore the reviews, and then your experience won’t change one bit.

I think this will be fully integrated and maybe with some more features by the time we get the PS6. Cool stuff

Totally agree with you.
I would add 2 things:

1) Sadly, while its easy to see some of the non-genuine reviews, this is not always the case as they start by criticising things like Story, plot direction etc. I have even read reviews that criticise everything including graphics(!) just to hide what they want to say eg imagine saying the graphics of HFW are crap! It makes it much harder to just 'filter' out the noise.

2) I dont know about others, but when I see certain BS mentioned it actually makes me more inclined to buy the game! Which makes it even more annoying that genuine issues / problems that would put me off, get 'lost' within the mire.

Based on the Xbox store, I'm sure the reviews will be calm, logical, well thought out and spelt correctly with the correct grammar too...
