That looks like to could be a fun plat to go after. Definitely a game I want to get at some point...
...and I'm more intrigued about the frankly ludicrous 4 different versions on sale and how much could be missed out on by not having access to all of the planes etc. Hopefully any upcoming review will deal with this.
Hate this way of selling games and FOMO bait - at obscene prices too! 😝
Shovel Knight is bloody amazing. I adored it. How and why on earth they didn't see fit to go from 8-bit to 16-bit style is the biggest mystery to me - "Super" Shovel Knight would have been an absolute banger and is a massive missed opportunity (so far...!?)
They would have had the play mechanics in place and not had to develop a game from scratch, and been able to throw loads of fun 16-bit mode 7/scaling type effects in on top - the stuff Konami and Treasure used to do back in the day on SNES and MD.
I backed Mina on KS and just checked the original release date and it's Dec 2023 so we're now 2 years overdue! No wonder they're in trouble and the game is ONLY just playable throughout?! This late?
Feel for these guys as I love what they're doing and hoping they can succeed and get this out in a state they're pleased with. But they then need to seriously think about proper scheduling and building an overflow buffer into that to make sure on their next project they don't repeat the same mistakes.
I found the parry system much much harder in Yotei. To the point of frustration actually - and I think it just wasn't as much fun as Tsushima and I actually dreaded fights which definitely isn't the norm for me.
I platted Tsushima twice (second time played through on hard) and didn't have half the problems I did on Yotei. I could perfect parry 10+ times in a row with ease on Tsushima and it felt great but the timing just never clicked on Yotei. Plus there were some sweeping enemy attacks which despite having a blue glint seemed unstoppable. I think they got the balance here very wrong and I just couldn't acclimatise to the combat and it left me disappointed in this aspect.
Having said that I still thought it was a bloody great game (platted it). So so beautiful and love a revenge story. But the parry system and combat knocked it down a few points for me.
Personally hope Sucker Punch move onto a completely new IP now. Not to detract from their quality, I feel both games are brilliant but they are very similar and I felt burnout with the game systems and everything at the end of Yotei.
The opening credit reveal isn't as good as Tsushima by a long shot (lacks the dramatic heft Tsushima had which was better paced and a good hour into the game so by then the stakes were higher and you really felt the emotional impact. As Yotei is an ersatz copy saw it coming a mile off) and it's pretty much the same game but....
...it's bloody brilliant and absolutely loving it. I also loved Tsushima so not a surprise. Playing in Japanese dub. An absolute joy to play and marvel at.
Watched it on delay and the bits I saw looked really great, glanced up at bits as I was working. But as soon as they said 'Here's the first mission' I fast forwarded. Quite why I (or anyone else for that matter) want to ruin the start of the game is beyond me. Why spoil the surprise?! Looking forward to the reviews and hoping it's good.
@Balaam_ Ha! The other week I was at a supermarket and saw a car's license plate where the last three letters were LJN (UK license plate). I scoffed out loud and everyone in the car asked me what was up - spent the next minute or so trying to explain the legacy and reputation of LJN's NES games but no one seemed to get it or why I would even care... 🤣
Looking forward to this. I loved AVGN's previous 16-bit style game - it was really good. Every reason to hope this will be the same!
I gave up watching any launch trailers (and anything much beyond the original reveal of games I like the look of) after Uncharted 3 which completely ruined loads of cool set pieces and took away much of the surprise.
The less I see of a game I'm interested in the better - why ruin it!?
@Frmknst They already kinda did that - at E3 2018, where the main showcase presentations were TLOU Pt 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding and Spiderman... the one where people had to walk from room to room. They also showed other games but not on the same scale. I seem to remember this presentation didn't get the love it deserved at the time and the reception was rather luke warm? Man what I'd give to have a proper E3 Sony showcase again...
@get2sammyb Missed off the fact Druckmann has announced ND are working on a second game as well as Intergalactic that hasn't been announced yet.
@somnambulance Couldn't agree more - I was left wondering why I was watching endless repeats of the same looking game and thinking I don't like videogames. Granted not everything will be for everyone - and there were 3/4 announcements which did interest me - but this selection needed to be far shorter and far better curated. Even the bloody RE9 reveal was prolonged lol. That would have been great in an hour long showcase - not an overly long snooze fest like it was last night. Respect people's time!
Then I remembered there was a lot in the SoP which I am looking forward to.
But that's 2 hours of my life I'm never getting back again.
@Jrs1 It's fantastic, I hope you like it. Sliding around over the landscapes popping arrows off is extremely satisfying - think Legolas from LoTR. It's up there with the traversal system of Insomniac's Spiderman games - I can give it no higher praise for that great sense of movement, flow and satisfaction.
I'd actually started the game 4.5 years ago... liked it but got distracted with other games etc and had only completed the first plateau. Finally got back to playing it a month or so ago and loved it, so much so once I beat the PS5 version I played through (and replatted) the PS4 version.
Once you power up and get new abilities it gets more and more fun. Flying up high gliding over the plateaus is stunning - my photo capture button was in overdrive. It's not perfect - it needs a map (they have this radar thing where objectives glow which is a cool idea but a bit flawed) and a couple of the boss fights are a bit janky, but everything else blew me away, especially the epic end battle!
Platted in under an hour (and that included going to make a cup of tea between rounds and watching the attract mode lol...) So pleased to have an arcade perfect port of Ridge Racer after all these years.
Now how about my all time favourite PS1 Rage Racer on the Classics label eh Sony/Namco...!
Yeah pre-ordered it and was really excited to play it as I love racing games and the positive buzz around the game... but I have to say compared to the more arcadey racing games I'm used to I'm finding the turning incredibly hard! These things turn like a brick! Still - persevering and will get more into it once I've finished off Indy.
Playing it and absolutely loving it. Brilliant! Actually wasn't what I was expecting, and I would have preferred 3rd person, but now I've acclimatised to what it actually is I have to say I'm thoroughly enthralled by it and can't wait to play more this weekend.
DAMN. I really hope this comes out for PS5. Been wanting an arcade perfect port of Ridge for bloody yonks.
(I'll have to just get out my PSX copy and play that... as well as some Rage Racer...)
I'd previously hit the limit which came as a surprise. For me I often wait for games to come down in price and putting them on my wishlist is useful not only to see if there's a price reduction but also so I don't forget about them! So may games out there the wishlist is a useful way to mark games I might want to play one day.
@PuppetMaster Yes I wondered the same thing - was it tested on PS4 and as there's no mention of it presume it works fine on it? Odd and rather obvious omission!
Loved Days Gone. Rough around the edges but FUN and the hordes were just great. Real shame the team wasn't allowed to continue the story and push their skills in the same way Naughty Dog did with UC and then UC2. Looking forward to their next game.
I can never chose between 2 and 4 (love em both, 2 sides of same coin for me) and feel this list is spot on! I would argue the story in 3 was all over the place and had some real holes but more than made up for with the insane set pieces. Hoping Sony announce the long rumoured new UC game soon...
Hmmmm. No premade tracks is a deal breaker for me. I don't have time to make stuff - I just want to play. Wonder if you can access and play uploaded tracks the community have made? I also wonder why they didn't bother to make any themselves. Shame as it looks like it could be good and scratch that Micro Machines itch.
I also thought it looked really good and a lot of fun. Wait and see but unless it gets completely awful reviews, I'll probably pick this up, maybe in a sale. Fingers crossed early impressions aren't accurate!
Gimme gimme gimme. I really hope the bigger franchises come over. Granted not day 1 but if they turn up eventually I'll be happy. The ones they've released so far and the rumoured possible releases aren't really my cup of tea but there are plenty of others which are.
How about Sunset Overdrive whilst they're at it? An older game and they don't own the IP anymore so why not cash in on it? It's the Insomniac game that got away and one I'd love to play!
@get2sammyb Yeah that was my immediate thought as well - otherwise why use that specific image with the headset Seems like we'll never get it on PS5 now which is v disappointing.
Astrobot saved it for me. This article is spot on - most of those games don't speak to me and the lack of showing anything from ND, SP or BP is disappointing if par for course from recent shows. I actually like the fact they aren't showing stuff too soon - but the length of time we're having to wait for any sort of reveal is incredibly long! Not to say there won't be other games coming out which I will want to play, but very little in there got me excited.

I'm getting this. Loved the look of it from the first reveal. I agree the shadow drop wasn't a good idea and from the sounds of it needs some more TLC. But definitely one I'll pick up down the road.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Silent Hill F?
I love a good poll, but these 'Are you a fan of...' polls never have the option for:
"Not played them but would love to give it a go one day"!? 🙄
So that's my position on Silent Hill!
Re: Sucker Punch Thinks Only 10% of Studio Would Be Hyped to Make Sly Cooper
+1 for another Sly game, I love em.
Really fun mechanics and actually playing through Thieves in Time on Vita (platted it on PS3 yonks ago) and having a great time.
I'd also love a new Spiro game!

Good times good times.
