Is it just me or is it a bit baffling that you say "PS5's Virtua Fighter"? I don't doubt it but were the platforms announced in the previous teaser trailer? The game might be a Switch 2 timed exclusive or launch initially only in Steam, like the recent port for all we know.
As far as Sony is concerned I have given up. I ripped all my games from PS1, 2, PSP the Vita ones that do not have PS4 or Steam versions. I simply play them in my Steam Deck. However, I still buy them if they end up getting released. In fact the last game I bought some time ago for my PS4 and 5 was the Dino Crisis classic.
Except MGS4 a lot of PS3 games that people may want to play have PS4 or Steam versions, so I ended up not ripping those. I miss my SEGA classics in PS3 like Outrun though.
To be honest I feel a bit of Trails fatigue. The world building seems to go nowhere, they constantly try to redeem the villains, top nation leaders act way worse than real life governments and Crossbell is occupied by bizarre forces every other Thursday. I got Daydream 2 in the latest discount and I hope it makes me change my mind.
Ah and in a couple of years we went from bows and arrows to colossal tanks and after that to AI weapons! OK, I take it back I still love the series!
Silent Hill 2 is still more expensive than how much I paid for the Steam version in launch day lol.
Anyway, I highly recommend it. It captures most of the aspects of the original game.
Also, I am a bit of a fanboy so I have Battle for the Grid and all its DLC. Still, it is a good fighting game with interesting mechanics. If you are a fan of Power Rangers I highly recommend it if you haven't checked it yet.
It doesn't help that this generation feels a bit of underwhelming for me (even though it really isn't for most people) with most games not being exclusives, having PS4 and PC ports. The only "true" PS5 games I have are Final Fantasy 16 and Rebirth. The only other games I got recently were retro re releases. Since I got the Steam Deck the way I approach gaming changed. I feel that I don't need to have the next best thing. Also, in Steam you can find deals easier, I got Silent Hill 2 for 50€ at launch while in PS5 it costed 80€. My PS5 became a dust collector and I mostly play on the Steam Deck and in my laptop that I also use for work. The death of physical media doesn't help either with games being shipped incomplete in disks. I also travel a lot for work and having to carry the launch PS5 is a nightmare. Also, I have no interest in the Switch 2, I don't play Nintendo games.
I, personally, bought and actually beat Post Trauma and have no intention to buy Oblivion any time soon. Post Trauma has issues though, especially the PC version.
Fans: We want a portable PS5, a true PS Vita successor
Sony: We announce a handheld that can natively play PS4 and PS5 games at lower graphics settings
Fans: What? Why would you make a console that holds back the generation like the Series S? Where are the PS5 exclusive games??? Those graphics suck.
Yikes, the digital model retailed for 399€ when the PS5 launched while it was 375€ in the previous discount promotion. And the worst thing is that, if I wasn't a Final Fantasy fan, I wouldn't even buy the console.
I backed up my PS1 CDs ages ago and I really suggest you do the same. You then are not confined in what they decide to re-release but can still buy whatever retro game is up in modern digital stores. And, of course, your games are digitally preserved. I am not sure that PS1 era CDs are that durable.
Wow, in the new Switch I can play games that I have already played in my Steam Deck of even my PS4...
On a more serious note, if you are not into Nintendo franchises (I am most certainly not) everything Nintendo does now is irrelevant. When the Switch initially released, I got one to play some of my favourite indies on the go but now we have the much more powerful PC handhelds. Moreover, third party exclusives are a relic of the past now.
The OG Switch seemed outdated the day I bought it with slow load times and uncomfortable grips.
After Mortal Kombat having irrelevant characters other games are following. Still, if I casually came around those news I would be sure that it was an April Fools joke that leaked... But it seems to be legit.
@themightyant I rarely play more than two games but this weekend I decided to revisit the fonal boss on all Final Fantasy games using my old saves. I tried Final Fantasy 1, it had an update, I moved to play 2 another update, in the end all had updates except 10 and 12, even the 7 Remake / Rebirth. I ended up playing nothing... If updates worked as they should I would have been ready to go regardless of what I wanted to play. And not updating the games is bad from the preservation point of view. I sometimes take my consoles in work trips and play offline
@Zeke68 Yeah, but the limit is not clearly stated anywhere. It sure is a bizarre way to punish loyal customers that buy and play a lot of games. I did something better than deleting the saves: I cancelled PS plus and backed up the saves in two different USB sticks and two different consoles. I cannot do this in PS5 but the only games I have are the FF16 and 7 Rebirth and I can live without having those back ups. I also backed up the saves of PS3 and Vita with similar methods.
@Zeke68 Yeah, it only updates the games in the home screen. Save upload doesn't work either. It always says I am out of space in the cloud, although that is not the case. I have automatic updates enabled. Apparently there is a hidden limit in the actual number of PS4 savefiles you can upload!!!!!
@themightyant I get that, even though it is very bad for game presentation and AI and cloud backups of not useful data consume much more enery of a few MB of download. It is frustrating to always have to manually update all the Final Fantasy games. In Xbox you can check for all updates with the press of a button, you don't have to check one by one. In Steam it slowly updates all games in the background automatically.
OK this is getting beyond ridiculous with updates that add nothing. I was in my hometown for a couple of days and whatever I tried to play had some sort of update. The console had an update, all Final Fantasy games had updates, Resident Evil 4 had update, the whole console had updates. After all those years STILL PS5 DOES NOT UPDATE GAMES AUTOMATICALLY for some reason. And to check every update by hand is a pain with the clunky OS. The same happened when I opened the PS4. It also updates nothing automatically.
Can they even block yhem though? It would be like blocking a game in Steam Deck. Even they blocked them it would be trivial to unblock them if the console runs Windows. But why would they block them? Almost all Sony games are Steam Deck verified which means that they sell their games in owners of the Deck. I have certainly bought a lot of them during discounts. I imagine something similar will happen with Xbox
Believe or not I am a huge fan of the Atelier series since I casually bought Atelier Rorona, the original version, for cheap from a local store. Since then I have bought all the games, some of them multiple times, I have beaten all of them and I have the platinum trophy in most of them. Since I started moving to Steam I have already preordered Yumia and hopefully the game will run dine in my Sream Deck
Oh man, I really look forward to the revivals of the old IPs. I already preordered shinobi! I would love if they also reintroduced their classic games that they delisted while remembering that arcade, master system and dreamcast also exist. Even though what I would reallllly like is the return of Outrun and Skies of Arcadia.
I love my Steam Deck. I have preordered the cheapest version when preorders opened and since then I have upgraded the ssd and also bought the Dock. Steam Deck and the Vita are the only consoles I have ever preordered. Since I got one it made all other consoles I have a bit irrelevant. For example in PS5 I got only the Final Fantasy games.
@1UP-HUSKY Unfortunately, this in not true where I live, if we talk about recently released AAA games. Most places offer free shipping only in the 100€ range or not at all. It is true that you can find smaller or older games cheaper though.
@Foxhound I don't know what happens in Netherlands but in my region, for newly released games, if you add shipping costs to physical games the pricing is almost evenly matched. So, for Silent Hill 2 both digital and physical versions cost about 80€ so I simply bought the steam version for about 50€ from green man gaming or cd keys, I don't remember exactly.
It may just be me but, even though I played the Trails games since the first one in PSP, it seems that the excellent world building has not been realised to its fool potential with repeated storylines, trying to redeem previous villains and a main (?) plot that seems to go nowhere. In any case I am still a fan and I will try the new game but, to be fair, I am more interested in the next game.
I am surprised that Code Veronica is so highly regarded. I somehow managed to softlock me out of continuing the game the first time I played it. In any case in today's culture a remake of Code Veronica or RE5 is highly unlikely expect if the script is changed.
Man, I would love if they dropped exclusivity for Professor Layton. I really don't want to play it in the underpowered Switch, that I don't even remember where I stored it.
I think the PC port situation somewhat devalues the PS5. If you exclude retro re releases the only game I bought on PS5 last year was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. I chose to play Silent Hill 2 in Steam at a better price than what Sony asked for. Same for the Remake of Horizon and for Spider-Man 2. If I wasn't a huge Final Fantasy fan I would have waited for the PC port of Rebirth. By the way you now can earn trophies in Sony PC games.
I guess it is only a matter of time before someone changes the models of Peter and MJ to the PS4 ones. The new are so comic inaccurate it hearts.
There and back again to how things should have been. The issue was the games were not available worldwide. There is no coincidence that they reversed this before the release of Spider Man 2. They know this game will be popular worldwide.

A fantastic reveal. We had no specs, no games, no price, no release date. Seems that they planned to do the reveal later when all of the above were finalized and the leakers forced their hand.
I personally have no interest in the Switch 2. It will probably be an overpriced and underpowered piece of uncomfortable to use hardware, like the Switch and the 3DS. Also, even though I love the Game Boy / DS line I mostly played 3rd party games (that are now a thing of the past) and I have no personal connection with any Nintendo franchise.
I am mostly curious on the Steam Deck performance. They say that they try to make the game "Verified". Still, I am looking forward to once again torture myself by being Zantetsuken-ed to oblivion in Chadley trials.
Since I got my Steam Deck I slowly transition there. In fact the only PS4/5 games I got after I bought the Steam Deck are Final Fantasy 16, Rebirth and PSone Classics like Dino Crisis and Ridge Racer. Some other recent games like Silent Hill 2 and Tekken 8 I played them in the Deck much cheaper than the 80 euros Sony asks for them. Since Final Fantasy and Japanese games in general seem to have Steam versions I think it may even be irrelevant for me. That said, some Steam ports are not great, the Ryza games had issues in some graphic cards.
I would love the option to remove all those stuff and have a simple and clear UI like the PS4 or the Switch. The PS5 system software is way bloated for my taste.

Perfect news, I look forward to the update and the Steam version. VF5 is one of the few games I miss since I started the slow transition from the PS4 to the PC.
The Callisto Protocol might be the most broken game you can play from the disk without updating. I have the PS4 disk and the game, after the end of chapter one, plays literally like a slow motion replay from a football game. I was not a big fan of the battle system but I enjoyed the story up to the ending that was hilariously bad.
