Copycat Gran Turismo Games Now Ripping Off PS5 Racer's Marketing

No, the YouTube thumbnail for the video you see above is not Gran Turismo 7.

It is actually for Project Motor Racing, but when it landed in my subscriptions box today, it absolutely fooled me. Did the lead image of this article fool you too? If it did, I suppose what developer Straight4 Studios is doing works.

This isn't quite Gran Carismo levels of bad (now renamed to Grand Car Racing), but it's obvious the game is trying to attract more eyeballs than usual based on the thumbnail and title. The composition of the cars in the thumbnail is a direct copy of what Polyphony Digital does for its monthly update videos, and then the car pack it's promoting is even called GT Icons.

You could argue this is just a coincidence, but I doubt it is.

I'm not the only one fooled, either; the top comment on the YouTube video (by some distance) jokes about how they too thought this was a Gran Turismo 7 update. So, well done Project Motor Racing: you fooled us!

Forza Horizon does this exact same layout for their car packs since at least Horizon 3. Albeit, sometimes a bit sunnier, it is Horizon after all.

Forza advertise it nearly identical??
Also gt is a term commonly used in the racing and car world nothing to do with the game Gran Turismo!
Also the project motor racing and logo at the bottom is a dead give away!
If this fool's you into buying it you deserve to lose your money in my opinion!

It's cars on a track. Gran Turismo is Italian for Grand Touring, which is in common use to denote fast, luxury cars. Has been for more than 50 years. Calling something in the car space GT isn't stepping on any toes. Calling something a "Gran Turismo copy cat" for having cars is something.

This article reads as if there's some "controversy" even though there is none.

There have been track based racing games before Gran Turismo and there will be more after. Showcasing cars on a track from their best side is not a copycat of Gran Turismo.
