In what can only be deemed a win for future preservation, the popular open-source emulator PCSX2 is now compatible with more than 99.5% of the PS2’s gigantic library.
The only games still exhibiting noteworthy issues include: DRIV3R, Final Fantasy 11, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, and World Series Baseball 2K3. You should get some form of playability out of everything else.
PCSX2 allows you to dump the BIOS from your own PS2 console and rip any games you own physically from their DVD. You can then play those titles on your PC using emulation, often in higher resolutions with performance improvements.
It’s a great way to preserve the legacy of your collection and make it available on more modern hardware, especially in the absence of a more robust emulation effort from platform holder Sony.
