More Gameboy is always good, I grew up with this and the Game Gear and love both. Too bad SEGA kind of ignores its 8 bit (and Saturn and Arcade etc.) games but it is a bit understandable.
@Flaming_Kaiser The discussion of ownership of games in the digital age is a huge subject. Basically, it seems like you own nothing since most physical versions don't work offline without internet patches or do not have all the game in the disk. This problem started in the PS4 era and killed the physical versions making them a lot of time redundant. This is why I only collect from PS3 and backwards where there the above problem is present only in a handful of games. However, you still need a console that functions and hope that the old physical media has not degraded. Thus, the best way to preserve and play old games is via PC emulation! You can easily have multiple copies or ROM and ISO files.
And regardless of what Gabe or the internet says PC is better for preservation even for modern games. Most steam games run offline! And, once the game is fully patched, you can make multiple copies of it. PCs will always be around but a functional PS4 may not be easy to find in say 20 years.
Sony mailed me as a gift the UMD version of the movie "Spider-Man 2" ages ago as but it turned out it was not something special, many people received it.
Still, it was cool back in the day to have this movie on the go, I guess.
I personally not mind yhat much when the next generation will start but if the initial plan was for PS6 to be released in 2028, if it is changed to 2030 feel be a bit "outdated"? Or Sony will invest money in more R&D to offer a "better" system?
@PuppetMaster I get what you are saying about the cost of PC parts but most people don't go for the high end stuff. The most expensive device I have is the original Ally and I have no idea what is the best graphics card or how they cost. Of course the RAM is a huge issue but it affects more stuff, not just gaming. 80€ is way too much for a game and in PC with the various stores you can find new games much cheaper. Still if Sony did not release its games on PC I would not have considered to search PC at all. Finally, in PC you can emulate retro games as you wait when or if they are re released.
@Flaming_Kaiser That's the thing. In a console you are obviously tied to its launcher with the pros and cons that this entails. The prospect of the new Xbox with the various storefronts sounds more appealing than a possible PS6 where your only option would be to pay Sony, say 100€ for a new game. That of course if the new Xbox is not stupidly expensive which is very possible.
@DennisReynolds I don't agree with this statement. Times have changed. All that it took for me to transition to PC was to buy a Steam Deck. Then I realised that I don't have to pay 80 (!) € for a new game. Obviously, not much people transition but I don't think I am the only one. Now that both Sony and Square release their games on PC, gaming on PS5 (or PS4 / Xbox) makes less sense.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah, I know that Xbox Ally is more like a PC and less like an Xbox, unless the vast majority of games you have are "play anywhere". I was trying to be semi sarcastic since, if the next Xbox works like an Ally then the whole "exclusive" games" thing will go the past where it should belong.
@Orpheus79V The think is since Peace Walker is the PS3 version to have Portable Ops and Ac!d re-released Konami has to make a PSP emulator. I am not saying that they won't do it but for Symphony of the Night they used the one from Sony thus making the title a PS4 exclusive and it is still one of the few Playstation exclusives.
Still it is highly likely that there will be a 3rd collection with Rising, the V duology updated for modern platforms and, hopefully, the PSP versions.
I already got a digital version. I have a bit of nostalgia for the SEGA and Gameboy versions. I still have my original cartridges so there is no need to buy a physical.
I enjoyed Horizon. The series finally went somewhere. If this something is interesting or not is debatable but I liked it, especially after the non sense of Reverie and the boring Daybreak 2.
I enjoyed the first Horizon but the second one had the most bland, cliche and unoriginal final arc for a game with such high production values. Or it is just me, I don't know. The DLC was more of the same but with a romance that came from nowhere for good measure.
That said the cliffhanger in the end is a least kind of interesting, providing that you still remember it if or when the series continues. I have not played any spin off so I don't know if those elements are addressed.
I will most probably go to the PC version day one and may get a disk version for PS5 down the line provided that it is an actual physical with all or most of the game.
I know that FF is not that strong but FF16 and Rebirth are the reason I have a PS5. Those games were advertised as exclusives back in the day and I am a huge fan of the series.
I have the exclusive from my uncle. "YS X: Prouder Nordics" will be announced to overwhelming reception from Western audiences that just bought Proud Nordics.
To be honest I would prefer if they focused more on a new game than the remake and drop the remakes after SC. Horizon, while not the best jrpg in the world, is way better than Daybreak 2 and I would love to see the conclusion of the Calvald arc.
I love this collection. I still have my Gameboy carts with Ducktales 1,2 and Darkwing Duck from the 90's. The NES games are kind of similar and I go back to this collection regurarly. So, I am not nostalgic for Goof Troop, or any SNES game really, but I would love if they added it in the PS4 version, even as (resonably priced) paid DLC.
I am a huge Final Fantasy fan having beaten all games multiple times. That said DoC is a mess but not that much from the gameplay perspective but the story. It is a mess of semi retcons and some plot elements have found their way in the Remake timeline for some strange reason.
I see a lot of hate for FF13 in the comments. I personally live the trilogy and I really enjoyed the first game.
To be honest now that Final Fantasy is not a PlayStation exclusive series I don't see myself buying a hypothetical PS6 anytime soon. In any case I think that current gen has a lot more to give. I don't think that there is something that limits developers that much. That said, if Sony wanted to release a new console next year and was caught "off guard" by the prices or RAM modules, as mentioned already in the comments, you cannot simply delay the console without losing tons of money to various contractors and such.
@JJtheTexan After my original comment I checked and a lot of local shops have them. They are a bit cheaper than the better known brands. I guess I did not know the brand because I was never interested in TVs in general.
@DeepSpace5D @Panic_Attache @Weebleman @Judal27 To be honest I was semi joking, I knew those games, even though they are not my cup pf tea. To be fair though one is a remake and the other has a pretty good PS4 version. Don't get me wrong, I like that we are moving away from the exclusivity non sense, it just makes the consoles feel a bit underwhelming sometimes.
@Fluberuper The fans seem to like Chloe but I can't stand her. She has a bad personality and kept randomly dying in the first game lol. I still enjoy the games she is in though. The general story is interesting.
Oh I really enjoyed Double Exposure with the academic setting and whatnot. Also, price is cheaper on Steam for some reason. I will preorder closer to release date
Wow it seems strange but currently DS2 is the only 100% Playstation exclusive, aka a game without a PC version? Unless Sony released something that I missed.
SEGA is not only reluctant to release Master System, Game Gear or Dreamcast games but they even delisted the Mega Drive ones. And it makes no sense locking versions of the games in a mode of another game that its fans may not want.
To be fair they tried to bring back Shinobi, Streets of Rage, House of the Dead and more with modern versions or remakes to a debatable degree of success.
Still, I cannot shake the feeling that SEGA wants to try a subscription service for the back catalogue which I would hate.
Dowloading Horizon now. Steam has a million bundles with cosmetics, items, soundtracks etc. I am trying to force my way in Daybreak 2. It is the most irrelevant game in the series so far. At least Crossbell is not occupied from a bizzare force for the 10th time in the span of 3 years and the goverment does not seem that useless.
@ShogunRok Thanks for getting back to me. I will try to give Daybreak 2 another shot. I don't mind a slow start if I know that there will be some sort of payback.
@ShogunRok I bought Daybreak 2 in release date and gave tried multiple times to go through it but it is so boring. All this world building is seemingly going to waste.
What I understand from the review is that the overall narrative seems to actually go somewhere?
I don't know, I seem to be in the minority but I loved Double Exposure. The campus setting resonated with me and seeing Max was, as mentioned, like seeing a good old friend.
Now the return of Chloe seems to be due to the backlash from a part of the community. I would prefer if they stuck to the original vision but it doesn't really matter. I look forward to returning to campus.
I liked in Double Exposure where they treated both endings of the original game as canon. Now the canon ending seems to be that the town was destroyed and this is my least favourite ending.
I agree, exclusives are important. That is why I am currently playing Spiderman 2 and Stellar Blade in my Rog Ally. Oh, wait...
On a more serious tone (somewhat) I have only two PS5 games that do not have PS4 versions and those are FF16 and FF7 Rebirth. I propably wouldn't even buy the console back in the day if I would not be a Final Fantasy fan.
@Flaming_Kaiser That is the point. Most Steam games start if you go in their folder and double click the icon, like we did in the 90s. Steam client is just a convenience. Contrary to popular belief a lot of Steam games are actually DRM free. You don't even need online access.
As far as emulation you can add apecific roms or even emualtion station in steam easily. Retrobat and Emudeck are popular options depending on the OS.
I still have my original copy of this game and I love it. I downloaded the new version and the remaster seems spotless, at least up to the second level I managed to play. I would love if you could save and start from whatever stage you want but it is a minor complaint. I really recommend this game to shoot em up fans.
@Flaming_Kaiser That is not entirely true. PC is much better for gaming preservation in the long run. Most Steam games simply run by double clicking the icon regardless of if you are online or not.
To be honest after I got my Steam Deck I slowly stopped buying games for PS5. In fact I have only bought the Final Fantasy games and some of the retro games they released again. It is surely because of the price of the games. There are cases that games were 30€ cheaper. I am definitely interested in the new Steam Machine.

@Bingoboyop I don't know why, both PS4 and PS5 simply don't have the hardware required to run any type of CDs.
Re: PS5 Is Becoming a Really Great Place to Play Retro Games
@Bingoboyop For some reason both PS4 and PS5 cannot play CDs of any kind. So PS1 CDs would not work anyway.

So, if in my region PS5 sales drop they will surely make a PS5 that only works with say Italian, Greek or Turkish accounts, right?
