This State of Play was the definition of Okay. Not great but not bad either just OK. I mean, we've had (WAY) worse.
It had some welcome surprises, we got to find out that Housemarque is working on something new, we got some release dates.
BUT we still need to hear from Sony and what the first party studios are working on now that, apparently, the live service efforts are not the focus anymore. (just 3-4 years down the drain X..D)
Playstation under Helmer Hulst in general has been a total disaster.
The live service thing is something that the regular PS fan could never understand because it only makes business sense. It's understandable that a corporation in the business of making money would try to pursue a piece of the Fortnite pie but going all-in like that was the idiotic part.
Can we even say anything new that hasn't been said about Hermen Hulst's tenureship?
Playstation under him is turning into Xbox: They cancel more games than they announce. Most of these don't even get a proper announcement.
I think Sony has to sack him already. Too many fumbles this generation. All the goodwill and trust gained during the PS4 generation is pretty much squandered under his terrible leadership.
This just validates everyone one of us that always said GamePass made no business sense: great for consumers but completely unsustainable for even the short-mid term.
I, for one, am glad Game Pass is dying. It cheapens games and makes game studios expendable and totally dependent on the publisher (Microsoft)
I hope Sony has stopped wasting their money on Kojima´s underwhelming walking sim scam (really just a vehicle to hand over money and buy his way into Hollywood)
I hope this is good for Bioware because I'm a BIG fan of their legacy crpgs but I don't think I'm going to be trying this one out, its more of an action spinoff than what Dragon Age was suppossed to be in Origins (if there ever was a series with a serious personality issue is this one)
In general we can blame the series S in particular for holding back this gen. Every multiplatform release suffered because of the dumb MS rule that series S has to be supported.
To my surprise I quite liked the fall of humanity backstory in the original Horizon, more so than the main narrative. I always tought this scenario would make for a fine Killzone-esque FPS.
Hmmm, a spin-off prequel FPS doesn't sound so bad. And Guerrilla already has the pedigree.
@DTfearTheBEARD Not only the controllers, Series S is the main culprit of holding back the current generation.
Not fanning the flames, just facts. Some developers mentioned this a couple of years ago. Not random twitter person but rather actual developers working on games.
It´s the reason why Black Myth Wukong is basically a ps5 console exclusive at this point: Series S can't handle the game and the insane parity rule from MS means the Series X doesn't get it either.
This pretty much confirms what we all knew was going to happen when Microsoft announced its ***** rule: The Series S low specs are holding back this generation.
There were some good things but no surprises or anything even barely jaw-dropping but, as Sammy points out, its the state of the industry right now. Personally, I only watched it for Monster Hunter Wilds, Slitterhead was also pretty good in that Japanese PS3 jank kind-of-way, some of the Blumhouse games seem interesting and it's always great to see Sid Meier.
And LEGO Horizons for Switch?! Never would've expected that. A Sony-Nintendo alliance to take on the MS juggernaut? After seeing Terry Bogard in Street Fighter all bets are off
Gamescom is gearing up to be a pretty good show though.
It wasn't THAT bad. The problem was it started off with Concorde, which received quite the mixed response to put it lightly.
It wasn't good either. It was saved from being a disaster by Silent Hill 2's released date announcement, Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay reveal and Astrobot's great closing.
Ballad of Antara and Where the Winds Meet looked pretty good, and like games I'd get not day one but eventually.
Dynasty Warriors Origins was a pleasant surprise and I would've preferred Alien: Rogue Incursion to be regular game, maybe I'll try it out if I ever get a psvr2 (that still needs Half-Life: Alyx, Sony AND Valve)

@PushSquareUser YES! Series S is what has been holding back this gen more than anything. (From the third-party perspective)
Re: Reaction: Xbox Publishing More Games on PS5 Than Sony Is Not a Gotcha, It's Just a Sign of the Times
I'm ready for a new Dishonored and/or Prey.
Is Harvey Smith still at Arkane? Such a wasted asset imo.

Re: Actress Tati Gabrielle Grateful to Work with 'Video Game God' Neil Druckmann on Intergalactic PS5
@Golem25 Kojima is out in my list. Send him to LA to fangirl over hollywood stars XD.
Re: Persona Protagonists Are Invariably High School Boys Due to 'Mental Age'
Catherine is exactly what I was thinking a possible adultPersona would look like.
I guess we are going to be a teenager that preys on vulnerable women again XD (that teacher storyline in P5 was downright creepy)
Re: Amazon's Secret Level Has Been Renewed for a Second Season
@Anke I was watching those in disbelief of how good they were.
Re: Actress Tati Gabrielle Grateful to Work with 'Video Game God' Neil Druckmann on Intergalactic PS5
ND still has the benefit of the doubt with me but damn that trailer hit like a mix of Concord and Forspoken for me.

Indiana Jones is like Star Wars to me: a 'meh' and pass.
Pd. Throw Marvel in there too.

Re: Xbox Fans Really Want a Port of PS5, PC Hit Helldivers 2
Nah. F*ck, xbox. Let them play Starfield.
But if they really really want it then we should get Fallout in return.
Otherwise f*ck xbox in the ear while Phil Spencer watches crying but aroused.
Re: Sony's Guerrilla Sounds Completely Done with the Killzone Series
@McTwist You would think these times would be perfect for a new Killzone to explore very current issues in regards to total warfare.
You said it, brother. Guerrilla has gone softer than silly putty.
Re: Tales of Kenzera: ZAU Dev Surgent Studios Puts Game Team on Hiatus
@Blackmagehobbit Damn! lol I wouldn't have been so harsh but yeah, this game looked SO average for how it was being pushed in showcases and previews.
Re: Tales of Kenzera: ZAU Dev Surgent Studios Puts Game Team on Hiatus
@Kienda you are completely on target, sir. DEI programs still fail to notice that people, ANY people, don't like to be talked down to and lectured.
Re: Random: Hideo Kojima's Chronic Back Pain Symptom of Carrying Video Game Industry, Fans Say
The cult continues to amaze lol. How exactly did he "carry" the industry all these years? What innovation? The strand genre? 😂😂😂

@tpepper1985 pretty much

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Wins Over PlayStation Fans
I didn't expect to be impressed with the improved looks tbh but it sure looks good. What seals the deal is the $10 buck upgrade path.
Personally I'm still in the fence about it but it's a nice option to have
Re: Talking Point: What Was Your Favourite PS5 Game from State of Play September 2024?
1. Ghost of Yotei
2. Monster Hunter Wilds (release date!)
3. Hell is Us
Bonus: ArchAge Chronicles
Tbh this was a much better showing than I was expecting but I feel, after the Concordcide, that Sony needed a homerun and this was not it.
Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play for September 2024?
I wasn't expecting much but the highlights for me were:
This was not a bad State of Play but imo Sony needed a homerun. Lets hope we get some surprise announcements for TGS.

@CutchuSlow It looks like the original PS1 Persona games.
Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Reveal Has Utterly Torn Fan Opinion as Trailer Gets Slaughtered
Ok, so I wasn't the only that thought that trailer was massively underwhelming.
Re: Xbox Really Wasn't Happy with PlayStation's Call of Duty Marketing Deal
Spender talking about slimy actions went they went and bought entire publishers to keep the games out of PS.
What a f*cking clown. I have a problem with this guy wanting to present himself as a "savior of gamers" when he is clearly full of *****. *****.
Re: PS5 Fans Beg Sony for a More Fulfilling Livestream in the Aftermath of Xbox Show
Perfect Dark was the only exclusive they showed that interested me in any way.
Gears does not interest me in any way. I feel like I should've been more excited about Fable but wasn't.
Besides those it was all games that will also appear on PS5.
It was a stronger show than State of Play but nothing that would make me think I made a mistake buying a PS5 instead of a Series X.

Re: Street Fighter 6 Locks Fists with Fatal Fury in New PS5, PS4 DLC
My jaw was about to hit the floor thinking they were going to announce a new Capcom vs SNK but this was still a pretty cool announcement.
Then SNK was like "hold my poodle!" and comes out guns blazing with City of Wolves.
Re: Poll: Was Summer Game Fest 2024 Great or a Letdown?
SGF felt more like a 2 hour reveal announcement trailer for Gamescom XD
Re: Genre Pivot, 'Toxic Positivity' Blamed for Suicide Squad's $200 Million Flop
This game never made sense. They should've scrapped it last year after the abismal gameplay reveal.
Re: Video: Is Concord Destined to Fail?
Imo the problem was the generic, derivative characters more than "oh no another hero shooter".
These games, and MOBAs, live or die on the appeal of their characters. In Concord I didn't find even one character that I wanted to play as.
Tbh I expected (ie. preferred) it to be more like a PvE with a bouty hunter theme but alas it's another 5v5 shooter.
Re: PS5, PC Shooter Concord Appears to Be a $40 Game
@Xbox_Dashboard Same for me.
All I could think throughout the reveal was the word "MEH". It just felt generic, derivative, uninspired.
I also found "Savage Dragon Yondu" whatshisname to be annoying in a very Forspoken protagonist kind of way.
Re: Talking Point: What Are Your PS5 Predictions for Summer Game Fest 2024?
Starfield announced for PS5: "Look who comes crawling back" XD.
This would be VERY funny to see after all the exclusivity drama.
Re: Poll: What Was Your Favourite Game from State of Play?
Monster Hunter Wilds for me. But if this was a 10 then Astrobot was a close 9.
Poor Concord faces an uphill battle.
Re: Latest State of Play Is One of the Worst-Received PS5 Shows Yet
It wasn't THAT bad. The problem was it started off with Concorde, which received quite the mixed response to put it lightly.
