The only reason the live service push didn't kill Playstation is because xbox is in even worse shape.

They cracked the key to modern game development gens ago: DON'T CHASE GRAPHICS, AAA and AAAA IS UNSUSTAINABLE.

And tbh we are at a moment in time when GFX are really good enough and devs should be focusing more on gameplay systems and mechanics, AI, physics, I feel like these took a back seat since the late PS3-PS4 years.

The things you could we with AI know. Somebody give Warren Spector the budget for this one block RPG now!

From a business standpoint, remaking 4 over 1 or 2 just makes more sense. 1 & 2 would need some heavy retooling if they were to include social links.

There is always a place for AA but, like indies, the games have to be priced accordingly. $40-50 dollar experiences to accompany the full-priced AAAA releases each year.

Half the money wasted on the live service initiative this gen could've been used to save Japan Studios. Damn shame.

The biggest mistake was turning factions MP into a live service game.

I'm guessing they made the decision to pivot to live service around the time that Fortnite was blowing up because of the pandemic.

I mean an expanded take on factions does sound GOOD, that's why everyone was dissapointed when it was canned, but going all-in on live service is what ultimately killed it. And it's a shame because it didn't have to.

Maybe now that From is done with Elden Ring the only thing holding this back would be the rumoured new ip and/or DLC for Armored Core 6 (YES, PLEASE)

One of the finest games ever. One of the few old games I still play from time to time with the og Half Life. Imo with a better twist than Bioshock.

Prey is a worthy successor for anyone interested in playing something more up to date but SS2 definitely holds up.

This State of Play was the definition of Okay. Not great but not bad either just OK. I mean, we've had (WAY) worse.

It had some welcome surprises, we got to find out that Housemarque is working on something new, we got some release dates.

BUT we still need to hear from Sony and what the first party studios are working on now that, apparently, the live service efforts are not the focus anymore. (just 3-4 years down the drain X..D)

Bioware really is dead now.

I'm looking forward to whatever Housemarque comes up with next.

Playstation under Helmer Hulst in general has been a total disaster.

The live service thing is something that the regular PS fan could never understand because it only makes business sense. It's understandable that a corporation in the business of making money would try to pursue a piece of the Fortnite pie but going all-in like that was the idiotic part.

Can we even say anything new that hasn't been said about Hermen Hulst's tenureship?

Playstation under him is turning into Xbox: They cancel more games than they announce. Most of these don't even get a proper announcement.

I think Sony has to sack him already. Too many fumbles this generation. All the goodwill and trust gained during the PS4 generation is pretty much squandered under his terrible leadership.

This just validates everyone one of us that always said GamePass made no business sense: great for consumers but completely unsustainable for even the short-mid term.

I, for one, am glad Game Pass is dying. It cheapens games and makes game studios expendable and totally dependent on the publisher (Microsoft)

In general we can blame the series S in particular for holding back this gen. Every multiplatform release suffered because of the dumb MS rule that series S has to be supported.

I didn't expect to be impressed with the improved looks tbh but it sure looks good. What seals the deal is the $10 buck upgrade path.

Personally I'm still in the fence about it but it's a nice option to have
