Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Sony's State of Play for February 2025?

This State of Play was the definition of Okay. Not great but not bad either just OK. I mean, we've had (WAY) worse.

It had some welcome surprises, we got to find out that Housemarque is working on something new, we got some release dates.

BUT we still need to hear from Sony and what the first party studios are working on now that, apparently, the live service efforts are not the focus anymore. (just 3-4 years down the drain X..D)

Can we even say anything new that hasn't been said about Hermen Hulst's tenureship?

Playstation under him is turning into Xbox: They cancel more games than they announce. Most of these don't even get a proper announcement.

I think Sony has to sack him already. Too many fumbles this generation. All the goodwill and trust gained during the PS4 generation is pretty much squandered under his terrible leadership.

I wasn't expecting much but the highlights for me were:

  • Ghost of Yotei announcement was the big news.
  • Hell Is Us and ArchAge Chronicles actually looked like games I would definitely play.
  • the Stellarblade X Nier Automata collab.. we all knew the 2b costume was coming but I'm intrigued to know if it's More substantial.
  • Monster Hunter Wilds released date announcement
  • Alan Wake 2 going full Control with the Lake House DLC.
  • Horizon remastered looked rather impressive and the $10 usd update it's very fair but I don't know if I would double dip.

This was not a bad State of Play but imo Sony needed a homerun. Lets hope we get some surprise announcements for TGS.

Re: Netflix's Horizon Zero Dawn TV Show Reportedly on Ice

To my surprise I quite liked the fall of humanity backstory in the original Horizon, more so than the main narrative.
I always tought this scenario would make for a fine Killzone-esque FPS.

Hmmm, a spin-off prequel FPS doesn't sound so bad. And Guerrilla already has the pedigree.

Re: Valorant Won't Have Gyro Controls on PS5 Because Xbox Doesn't Support It

@DTfearTheBEARD Not only the controllers, Series S is the main culprit of holding back the current generation.

Not fanning the flames, just facts. Some developers mentioned this a couple of years ago. Not random twitter person but rather actual developers working on games.

It´s the reason why Black Myth Wukong is basically a ps5 console exclusive at this point: Series S can't handle the game and the insane parity rule from MS means the Series X doesn't get it either.

There were some good things but no surprises or anything even barely jaw-dropping but, as Sammy points out, its the state of the industry right now. Personally, I only watched it for Monster Hunter Wilds, Slitterhead was also pretty good in that Japanese PS3 jank kind-of-way, some of the Blumhouse games seem interesting and it's always great to see Sid Meier.

And LEGO Horizons for Switch?! Never would've expected that. A Sony-Nintendo alliance to take on the MS juggernaut? After seeing Terry Bogard in Street Fighter all bets are off

Gamescom is gearing up to be a pretty good show though.

Re: Video: Is Concord Destined to Fail?

arsmolinarc

Imo the problem was the generic, derivative characters more than "oh no another hero shooter".

These games, and MOBAs, live or die on the appeal of their characters. In Concord I didn't find even one character that I wanted to play as.

Tbh I expected (ie. preferred) it to be more like a PvE with a bouty hunter theme but alas it's another 5v5 shooter.

Re: Latest State of Play Is One of the Worst-Received PS5 Shows Yet

arsmolinarc

It wasn't THAT bad. The problem was it started off with Concorde, which received quite the mixed response to put it lightly.

It wasn't good either. It was saved from being a disaster by Silent Hill 2's released date announcement, Monster Hunter Wilds gameplay reveal and Astrobot's great closing.

Ballad of Antara and Where the Winds Meet looked pretty good, and like games I'd get not day one but eventually.

Dynasty Warriors Origins was a pleasant surprise and I would've preferred Alien: Rogue Incursion to be regular game, maybe I'll try it out if I ever get a psvr2 (that still needs Half-Life: Alyx, Sony AND Valve)
