That's why I never liked GamePass. As a customer it may be the best bang for the buck, but as a gamer I see it as a danger to my favorite developers. I already saw it kill half of Arkane.
The only REAL homegrown xbox game there is Forza. The others are a logical result of Microsoft buying out the biggest third party publishers in the industry.
The reason this makes Sony look bad is because of their own fault too with their disastrous live service push and VERY LACKING first party output.
This generation has been pretty tepid. Covid didn't help obviously but at what point does that stop being an excuse? It's been five years already.
Final Fantasy needs to go back to its roots and bring back turn-based combat, chocobos, airships, mini-games, ditch scifi and go back to quirky fantasy.
Edit. FF has had an identity crisis ever since Final Fantasy XI, which was an MMO like FFXIV, then they started experimenting with real-time with FFXII and they just haven't "nailed" it.
I hope Square takes a long, hard look at Persona, Clair Obscur, even Yakuza/Like a Dragon and realize that FF never needed to be reinvented: it practically invented the rules for JRPGs along with Dragon Quest.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the anime aesthetic in JRPGS: it makes all of them look too samey. That and the cringey tropes that never fail to make an appearance.
Regading the sales: Maybe that's what happens when you release day one on GamePass?
I hope Square takes a long, hard look at these games, specially Clair Obscur, and regain sanity with regards to Final Fantasy and gets rid of real time combat for XVII.
Sony should just do a "Ready Player One-type PS HOME" where players can do a variety of activities (racing, battle royale, etc.) and marry them to a an IP (racing: wipEout, driveClub, etc; shooter: killzone, socom, etc; sports: Hot Shots Golf, MLB the Show.... the sky is the limit); earn some type of currency to buy skins, decorations, whatever.
On the narrative side, while I do understand the decision to hole-in-one Joel I feel they didn't execute it right. I didnt´t like the seraphites, it was too heavy-handed lecturing for my taste.
Factions 2 being promised as a multiplayer then turning into a standalone F2P and then cancelling, all without us ever since more than one concept art piece really soured it in general for me.
I see now why some people say the first last of us as good in spite of Druckmann's involvement because there were people that could reign in his dumber ideas, like the cross-country lesbo revenge odyssey that part 2 devolved into. In general the plot of part 2 went nowhere, it dint' advance anything, the world isn't closer to a cure, all it did was kill Joel so there was a reason for Ellie to lose her *****.
Aw, man. I hadn't realized how bad Druckmann ***** up until right now XD.
@Kwyjibo_Kitsune I remember it well. I was all in during that survival horror craze so I played all those you mentioned XD, and the consensus then was that Silent Hill was the scariest game on playstation, Silent Hill 2 was massively anticipated when it was announced for PS2 and when it released it's success cemented it's status as a pillar IP for Konami.
Glad Konami remembered our boy Harry. This one just shot up to the top of my most anticipated list just below GTA 6.
Persona 4 first released on 2008. Atlus is three years away from 20 years of milking poor P4 dry. They just wheel P4 out every few years like a tired old hooker. XD
My feelings was that there LOTS of announcement but not "much". The only time I was genuinely surprised was with Super Meat Boy 3D. My other top games were ones we already knew about: Ninja Gaiden 4, Outer Worlds 2, Clockwork Revolution; these last two only because of the devs behind them because otherwise they look too generic "Fallout in Space" and "Steampunk Fallout" but Obsidian and InXile have premium RPG pedigree so I trust them to release clunky diamonds in the rough.
runner-ups: Romeo is a dead man, Nioh 3, FF Tactics, MGS Delta, Silent Hill F, Thief, Ghost of Yotei, etc... I think it would've been easier to choose the games I wasn't interested in.
The lack of first party titles does deserve to be pointed out and criticized. It's the result of the failed push towards live service, if at least half of the games they've cancelled without announcements were single player they coul've had at least a couple of strong first party ip.
Instead, we got an unreleased game (Concord), a canned live service God of War, a canned Bend studios live service game, the canned Last of Us multiplayer, and we don't even know what the status is for Fairgames or Marathon, both of which can be very possibly cancelled too.
It was a great showcase but it was great inspite of the lack of first party presence. It would've been abysmal without the Marvel tokodon announcement.

You don't have to be an industry analyst to know the obvious but saying Helmen Hulst is very good is a very Patcher take XD.
I hope this forces them to bring back Shawn Layden and Shuhei Yoshida. We need Playstation people.

Re: 'I Much Prefer PS Plus' Lifecycle Management Strategy': Devs Weigh in on Xbox Game Pass Impact
@trev666 Sony closing studios and cancelling games was the result of the abysmal push to live service.
In Microsoft's case the layoffs are a result of something that MANY people had warned before about it being an unsustainable model.
Both cases are examples of failures in management & direction.
$100 million dollar games are unsustainable in general. The games industry needs to learn from Nintendo: don't chase graphics.

Re: Poll: What Were Your Favourite PS5 Games from State of Play? (June 2025)
007
Pragmata
Marvel Tokon
