Update #2 []: A quick clarification on this story: previous leaked PS Store materials and the PS Blog post had mentioned the PS5 update to Ghost Recon Wildlands did encompass a native client, with SSD and DualSense support.
But further investigation suggests it’s actually a patch to the existing PS4 version which does run in 4K at 60fps, but lacks some of the more native PS5 features.
I’ve double-checked with Ubisoft for full clarity on this and will update if more information emerges, but for now it seems this is a patch as opposed to a native upgrade.

Ubisoft’s free PS5 upgrade for Ghost Recon Wildlands is available to download now, with support for 4K gameplay at 60fps.
The re-release also includes a new mission named Last Rites, set in a “darker, more oppressive” adaptation of the 2017 title’s Bolivia backdrop.
In addition, the game features full support for the PS5 Pro as well.
Here’s what the press release says about the improvements:
“Enjoy smoother combat, improved distance rendering, enhanced lighting and shadows, and a sharper image targeting 4K resolution. In addition, players can deeply customise and define their own Ghost Recon experience using extensive gameplay, difficulty, environment, and UI parameters. They can also adjust enemy behaviour, damage values, weapon restrictions, friendly fire, weather, and HUD elements to tailor realism, challenge and immersion. In addition, players can relive the iconic Predator event and take on a deadly extraterrestrial threat, now back once again.”
The game is available to download at no extra cost as part of PS Plus Extra, while everyone can try the title for free until 10th August, with any progress transferring to the full release.
Furthermore, all PS Plus subscribers will be eligible for an extra content pack, featuring various free cosmetics, including a “brand-new exclusive Iconic Skin of La Llorona, the powerful P416 Micteca, and the new 4-SHUR Blue Leader Sunglasses”.
Original Story: Ghost Recon Wildlands, the 2017 third-person shooter from Ubisoft, will get its free 4K, 60fps native PS5 upgrade from tomorrow, 6th August.
That’s according to a leaked PS Store listing, which also confirms support for 3D audio, DualSense haptic feedback, and faster SSD loading times.
All existing owners of the game will be able to upgrade to the native PS5 release for free, although disc-based owners will need to ensure the Blu-ray is in their console’s drive whenever they want to play.
Meanwhile, everyone will be able to try the title free of charge between 6th August and 10th August, as part of a promotional free weekend. Any progress you make during that period will transfer to the full release, should you decide to buy it at a later date.
If all that’s not enough, there’ll be a free mission named Last Rites available for all players, so even if you’ve already played this campaign to death, you’ll find something new to do here.
The game is currently discounted to $4.99/£4.49 as part of Sony’s Summer Sale until 12th August, so take advantage of that if you want to get the free PS5 upgrade.
It’s also included in the PS Plus Extra catalogue.
We thought Wildlands lacked a little identity in our 6/10 review, but like most Ubisoft games, it’s enjoyed some real longevity through post-release updates. The fact it’s getting a native PS5 version almost a decade after launch is testament to that.
