PS Plus Premium Will Bring Two Classic PS1 Games to Europe for the First Time on PS5, PS4 1

One of the best things about Sony’s commitment to PlayStation classics as part of its PS Plus Premium subscription is that some retro games have been releasing in Europe for the first time.

Level-5’s legendary PSP strategy game Jeanne d’Arc finally launched outside of Japan and North America on PS5 and PS4 last year, for example, and now Armored Core: Project Phantasma and Armored Core: Master of Arena are poised to make their overseas debuts next week.

While the original FromSoftware mech-‘em-up was published by Sony internationally in 1997, its sequels never launched in Europe at all.

In fact, all three games have remained somewhat difficult to play internationally on contemporary consoles. The first game was released on the PS3 in Japan and North America, but it never made it to the European PS Store. Meanwhile, the latter two games only ever released in Japan on the PS3.

While we’re yet to get confirmation, it’s likely all three titles will be available as a la carte purchases from the PS Store, so don’t worry if you’re not a PS Plus Premium subscriber. It’s possible they’ll include Trophies as well, although we will need to wait until next week for confirmation of that.

All in all, though, this is a seriously underrated effort from the manufacturer. While the cadence of classics releases may be slower than we’d like, making these retro games readily available on modern hardware, with quality-of-life upgrades and in regions they didn’t originally release in is phenomenal stuff.

We should acknowledge it when good work is being done, because it can be easy to take these kinds of things for granted.
