@freddquadros I think I’m gonna be ok with that. I’ve done two of the missable ones and made the right decision and you have one or two to play with anyway.

The one I did mess up was the one about the civil war. Sided storm cloak and made the wrong decisions in the council meeting. Ludicrous oversight from them tbh. I’ll have to load an earlier save for that which is tedious.

For some unbeknown reason I committed to getting the platinum for Skyrim! Don’t ask me why. It’s become a right ordeal at this stage.

@Ear_wiG I didn’t expect to like Returnal. Downloaded it in a lull because it was on ps+, thinking it was something I would laugh at the difficulty of, say I’d seen it and delete. I got addicted to it for a few weeks! Ironically (perhaps?) it wasn’t ever the boss battles that caused me any trouble. At least 4 or 6 I did within 3 attempts. Some of them did take SO many attempts to get to them though!

Ever since I’ve kept thinking I’ll try one of these souls like games. But I tutor a levels in a college so I never feel like I have the energy. Been waiting for a holiday. Got a copy of Wo Long for £40. Gonna try!

I’m quite happy to see that. I got a copy but haven’t started it. I’m not usually a gamer who gravitates to the hardcore difficulty category of games so I feared I might get scared off rather early. Having said that I did beat Returnal last year so maybe I should have more faith!

Much like I didn’t really understand animal crossing … I’m afraid I am struggling to understand what the purpose of playing this is?

(I’m not slamming it incidentally. Play what you like. I just think I could do with someone explaining what it is people play these games for. Obviously I’ve never played them so my position is one of ignorance all ends up)

The Pushsquare online gaming naysayers are just WAITING for a platinum trophy which requires you to have purchased additional content to obtain.

I’m really hoping it’s great. I’m not even into golf but I used to sink a lot of time into the Tiger Woods games they made back in the day.

Always felt they started to go downhill when they started to try to treat themselves more seriously. I miss the whacky elements!

People talk about ‘graphics hungry casuals’ but when you see a game like Plague Tale Requiem and those absolutely jaw dropping graphics as you walk around quite densely populated spaces … you see what games could look like on this console and it is quite annoying that most of them don’t…

(I don’t actually like Plague Tale but I played the trial and now see it as a graphical benchmark. I do also know that it was 30fps and not being action heavy allowed it to be a graphical spectacle. But Jesus it’s about the only thing I’ve seen that REALLY has those graphics that tell you you’re in a different generation. And now I want that.)

Has anyone ever heard of any of the games on this list…?

A TNMT game that doesn’t absolutely HAVE to look like a throwback to playing on a game boy colour and can actually join the world of contemporary gaming? Guessing this is just a rumour someone made up on a night out …

Do the people moaning like wildfire about this he fact there’s a DLC roadmap just not play anything because they can’t get over the fact most games follow that model now? Christ!

In other news - I’m so up for this. Exactly the kind of thing which PlayStation has been lacking for years now!

I miss the days of Top Spin. My mates and I played so much of those games as kids and would come off sessions with a thumbs in bad shape!

I do wish one day someone would make a great tennis game with an actual roster of pros, instead of two good players and about 8 other middle-rankers

I now won’t buy this. 3 years ago they were KILLING the ‘legends’ side of these games. Now they’ve dropped the ball on that and this year is even worse than last for people who want the old skoolers included for nostalgia. Sad times

I really don’t have a preference and I think a world where one can have both options on the table is ideal. I agree with the article that the hybrid model of semi-open world games can be done with amazing effect and has been in recent years.

I always like to keep a variety of games
On the go because I’m quite noncommittal. Tend to keep a driving game or a beat em up on the go with any narrative game in case I’m just not feeling like dealing with the scale of the latter.

Frankly I’ll play as many of them as they like. It’s a winning formula and seeing it turn into a long standing IP is absolutely no skin off my nose - I’ll be playing them

I have (perhaps misplaced) high hopes for PGA Tour.

Used to LOVE the Tiger Woods games. I miss the gimmicks and slight fantasy elements. This series has been out in the cold for so long, having once been so so good.

I don’t actually know because I don’t follow the staffing of development studios hardly at all … but … I do wonder how many of the key players in the inception and development of the Arkham games are still there working on this bs…?

Thank god they haven’t bounced back to Injustice. MK is their winning beat em up series for me.

Personally I found the art style of the last one a bit oppressive and drab. (Well aware others disagreed). I wasn’t the greatest fan of the roster for some reason and struggled to get as into it as I wanted.

As per usual I imagine they will inexplicably refuse to give fans the characters they are hoping for, opting instead for various young people with guns and an absence of personality. But hey hey.

It’s MK - so you kinda want the weird and wonderful. I’m would like a return for Cyrax for example. Reptile not being there aggravated me as well last time. Also would kinda like some of the more intensely gimmicky characters. Meat perhaps?!

I could swear that there was a lot of talk about LOADS of new Star Wars titles in development last year - an explosion of new IPs following EA losing exclusivity rights.

So … EA make a sequel and get it out in April. All the others disappear into the ether without a word?

Just an example of some of the stuff which has been touted that people are waiting to hear more about at events like these. There are many others I know …

What actually is the problem with games which require you to be online? Aren’t most peoples’ consoles always connected anyway?

I literally cannot wait. Everything about this sounds great and I already thought the first game was very strong.

Everyone KEEP saying how monumentally packed the first quarter of this year is with great new releases. I keep wondering why because I’m not really seeing that. (Having no interest in Harry Potter hasn’t helped… sigh).

I was mildly irritated to see this get delayed. It’s the one I’m really waiting on!

I think it was that sense of ‘antiquated’ movement and map design I was finding annoying very quickly. I think maybe these days I want games to grab me a lot quicker than I used to. In honesty I have tried to get into a good few games in recent months and discarded them alarmingly quickly.

As you say - certainly not going to go down the trashy ‘these games are dog’ route. Would really rather not identify myself on a forum as totally braindead!

Yknow I’ve never played a Yakuza game. I tried Judgement (from ps+) for about half an hour and really didn’t like it.

How indicative is Judgement of Yakuza games in general? If I disliked that, is it a fair bet they aren’t my thing in general? Can’t help feeling I’m missing out on something cos they get a lot of love!

(Open question cos there are clearly a good number of people who’ve played a lot of Yakuza games!)

@Highlar yeah - I actually think the early stuff I’d read was about the series s version. I must have been a bit delirious. People are very unhappy with that specific version because (apparently) they totally failed to optimise it for the white box.

In other news - I still haven’t played the demo myself.

I think the demo limits you to the opening sections of the game despite giving you ten hours. I’ve downloaded but not played

Literally nothing I’ve read so far from people who have played it has been positive! Disappointing. Despite people repeatedly claiming February is packed to the rafters, I’m not interested in Harry Potter and this was one of the games I had a hopeful eye on!

I’ve never played the previous instalments, know little about tabletop games, even less about the rules of American football. I’ll probably never play this game or have anything to say about it. I do however rather like that subtitle!

I wonder if there’s a correlation between people who don’t like any form of complication/nuance in the narrative of the games they play … and people who never picked up the basics of grammar?

I only play them for the ‘legends’. By ‘legends’ I mean people from about 1997 or before. They were serving that market really well for a while but seem to have stopped. To me, someone who was around about 5 years ago is not a ‘legend’.

I don’t really see how the game loses a mark when upgraded to ps5 tbh…

Regardless of whether there’s much upgrade to be had on the ps5 version … I just find this unfathomable. It turns getting a recent big name title added to extra into bad PR. I just find it very irritating all told.

I wanted to reload it to play the expansions I never touched. But apparently that’s quite complicated to get the upgraded version working on a pre-existing ps4 save…?

I can remember this happening to the Mortal Kombat reboot. At the time I’d all but given up gaming but I REALLY wanted to see that for the nostalgia.

I waited and waited but eventually the 360/ps3 ports were just cancelled. The day I found that out I went out and purchased an Xbox 1. Got me right back into gaming. Now look at me! Got a ps5 at launch ffs!

I really liked the first one and I’m excited for this. I do remember when it dawned on me that there were only 6 planets in the first game - I was really disappointed. I echo the calls for this to be wider in scope with more variety and less going back to reuse environments.

With Mass Effect right - I get it - it’s a great game etc. it has been on EA Play (and therefore game pass) as well for quite some time though …
