Interesting! Looks like they're trying to avoid a Cyberpunk situation, and this decision makes sense if the old gen versions need more work. Wonder will they be outright cancelled, wouldn't be too surprising

Small win. For once I can say last-gen is not holding us back.

Not at all surprising releasing ps4 version at a later date,and the right decision if its abit rough still,much better to do that than face another cdpr cyber type issue etc,it doesn't affect me personally as I'm lucky enough to have a ps5,even if hogwarts ps5 gets delayed as well so be it ,so many games to get through anyway and I'd much much rather games get delayed when not up to developers vision than half baked releases ,anyway I have a feeling that hogwarts will be alot of fun as a game rather than the films which don't interest me at all but I think hogwarts the game will be great fun

Probably the PS4/X1/Switch cant actually run the game. Just made for extra money. So will keep trying a bit longer

People will see the warning signs and buy it anyway - later complain that is an awful version.

I always felt this was a next generation only title and I would be fine if they cancelled the last generation versions TBH, but I get why they exist. They will probably look and run like deep fried molasses, but this hopefully prevents another Cyberpunk. No more delays for the main version, please.

Also, the Switch better be just a cloud version for the sake of everyone looking forward to that port. Getting this massive behemoth to run natively on that poor little Tegra X1 is surely a nightmare from the deepest, darkest depths of hell (and will most definitely look, run and play like one).

And before you ask, yes, I know the Switch has repeatedly punched light years above its weight class, but actually sitting down and playing those very impressive ports on the TV and not just in handheld mode is a different thing entirely. It's like being stuck in an old Low Spec Gamer video. As someone who always prefers playing at home on the TV and never really on the go, I use my PS5 for the horse power titles and save the Switch for Nintendo's own exclusives, as I have done for every single one of their consoles. They do their own thing and that's fine.

We all know people will complain about some versions being delayed - the same people, in large part, would also complain if it was released and was unplayable on the older consoles. I expect developers have stopped listening to such nonsense - you can't please all the people all of the time, but you also can't please some of the people ever no matter what you do.

@Icey664 A game releasing over 2 years into the PS5’s life doesn’t justify a early purchase, definitely not a day one purchase like I did.

In this situation it’s better to own current gen though.

I'm fine with the delay, so long as it releases in a good condition. The whole Cyberpunk situation has made me more cautious with ambitious games like these, so I'll have to make sure the PS4 version is still good before buying it on there.

Yeah, agreed. This game was supposed to launch in 2021 and it is being delayed for almost two years now. That is ridiculous. And people actually supporting these delays is even more ridiculous. I have been waiting for nearly two damn years for this game to release and am tired of it! I am on PS4 so more waiting for me. Yay!

Well this is ironic, as it definitely looks Like a last Gen title in every regard especially with character models and conversations that look like a decade old bioware gsme. It's going to be quite hilarious to compare the "in-game" footage they announced this game to the janky looking bland world that it has now become.

This has mess written all over it regardless of the platform. If it's rough enough to delay last Gen version, it's for more favorable reviews. That version will never meet whatever vision they had. A few extra months won't fix a game already massively delayed. This developer simply punched far above its weight.

I'm thinking they are now just hoping the Potter random will give them enough money back to not tank the studio as a whole. Which will likely happen with the last Gen / next Gen split in reviews. Although if you look at the droves of mindless ones that buy every anime game or Pokémon garbage regardless of it being horrible and technically broken, it's likely this game would have sold somewhat well regardless just based on that trend alone.

This review splitting is likely to pull in better initial reviews for those that aren't necessarily Potter fans but may want a new Open world adventure that is not jrpg cringe.

@Mauzuri Agreed. It seems to be a game that will center around fetch quests like pretty much all other RPGs, rather than a fully fledged universe that makes the most of all the universe's quirks.

Oh, and on top of this (in case this wasn't already clear) there are also no house points or a gobstones minigame (confirmed in the recent demonstration).

They should have cancelled the PS4 version and concentrated on PS5 instead. I bet that the PS5 version won’t be pushed to it’s limits because of having to take the previous generation into consideration

@Dman10 Why? It began development on PS4 in 2017. The first gameplay was leaked in 2018. PS5 did not even exist at the time. It was always a PS4 game from the start.

I can remember this happening to the Mortal Kombat reboot. At the time I’d all but given up gaming but I REALLY wanted to see that for the nostalgia.

I waited and waited but eventually the 360/ps3 ports were just cancelled. The day I found that out I went out and purchased an Xbox 1. Got me right back into gaming. Now look at me! Got a ps5 at launch ffs!

This would probably stick the landing if it wasn’t avalanche who has only ever made one good game with Mad Max

This is the longest cross gen, I've ever witnessed, the only games by this point on ps3 was fifa and they was more like team updates than actual new fifa.

I won't be getting it for the PS4 or PS5 - I have no wish to play a Worst Witch/generic fantasy rip-off thanks.

That said, PS4 delayed into April while PS5 version releases in February - not a massive delay, so the PS4 will be patched for all the bugs that will no doubt plague the PS5 version.

The sooner they learn the better. Sack off the previous gen versions now for all AAA games.

I’ll be playing on PS4Pro & I actually wish the delay was a little longer.

How much bug squashing can you really do in 7 weeks, when the majority of the team will be busy with the next-gen versions?

People should realise by now any new game is made to run on the latest console. Anyone running a ps4 switch or last version xbox should expect glitches and lower fps issues and should not be so quick to tweet negatives. I understand ps want to make profitif I still had my old ps4 I'd personally wait for hogwarts in the sale and be happy to play a next gen game.

I game share with another member of my family, but they play on a PS4 — Does anybody know if I buy the PS5 version will I be able to game share the PS4 version on my account?
I know that there are PS4 to PS5 upgrades that are free, but are there any games that go the other way? Downgrades, if you will.
Or would I be better off waiting to get the PS4 version, game share, and then upgrade to PS5?
This is such a weird predicament with it launching at different times.
