I’m not sure I understand what’s SO boundary breaking about it. I must be missing something.

I get that there’s a lot of choice in chats and stuff and things can be approached lots of different ways. Perhaps it’s that most of those ways never occur to me and I just talk to people, make decisions and fight people in the way of my objective. I’m yet to see what is quite so groundbreaking apart from there being lots of options to choose from.

It’s the skins which do my head in. There’s a massive and nostalgic heritage of skins for them to tap into. The single player mode (a huge grind) let’s you basically unlock skins which dress every character as the themed character that month, while there is this rotating conveyor belt of beautiful skins harking back to older games, each one asking you to cough up money while there is no option at all to play to earn them.

It’s literally sickening that one of my very favourite IPs has gone so far down this path that it seems totally irredeemable.

@Olmaz Agreed. In fact at times the visual design winds me up cos I’m battles it becomes hard to separate things if areas get conglomerated. I think it’s a great game - perhaps not quite as great as many think it is. But visual design??????

It’s just intensely tedious to have to read comment after comment after comment saying exactly the same thing over and over again on EVERY single article relating to this game …

Oh look - an article on Alan Wake 2. Did you also send an email alert out to everyone who likes to routinely post repetitive comments about there not being a disc version?

@Jayslow I think after I’ve shamelessly purchased SO MANY games in September and October (needlessly at full release price) … I probably won’t need any new games until next September

I’m so happy this is being so well received. I’m not going to read the comments because I don’t want to trawl through 30 people whining about digital only releases but I absolutely LOVE Remedy - I think they’re my favourite dev.

The ps5 version of Control was the first time I really FELT haptics. I thought it was great so no surprise here.

On another note - do the ‘I don’t buy digital only games’ brigade HAVE to post literally the same comment on EVERY article relating to EVERY digital only game? We get it ok!

The way this year’s release schedule is … I’m crying out for games to be a bit shorter

@Ravix The thing is - I find Baldurs Gate can’t be played in large doses. Things happen so slowly and require so much thought. I started playing overwatch again to give me relief from it (I’d quit that for good) and now it’s just given me my overwatch addiction back…

If people honestly think this is a ‘crap’ selection of free games on the basic tier, they should probably go live in isolation on a desert island at this stage …

If roughly another 65 people could come along to whinge about how they want but it because it’s digital - that would be amazing.

Honestly - I really love reading the same stuck record party line comment over and over and over again.

I haven’t read all these comments - but if someone could give me a round up of how many of the usual suspects came along to tell us they wouldn’t buy it because it was digital only … that’d be great

The Series S works for me. I’m primarily a ps5 gamer but I have a series s to play Xbox exclusives I want to play. It didn’t cost me a whole lot but I wouldn’t have considered a series x worth the cost. Ergo: I’m totally ok with accepting compromises.

I wonder how many others use series s for that purpose and not as their primary platform…

Personally I’m not one of these (many) people who is threatening to boycott a game I want to play because it’s digital only.

I do find it strange though. Surely games released during a packed build up to holiday season should be factoring in Christmas.

No one is going to actually play all of these games during September and October. I would think a lot of people would be looking at getting some and leaving some for Christmas gifts (either given to kids so they can play too or receiving if appropriate).

I really don’t think many people are going to be buying someone a digital only game as a Christmas present - doesn’t have quite the same effect, does it?

How are some of these releases STILL cross-gen?!

I can’t ever get into Yakuza games and that seems to be the one everyone is heralding. The rest of it looks like scrapings from the floor of a carpenter’s workshop to me

I’m not even an old skool rpg fan and I thought divinity 2 was GREAT. Trouble is I’m not that good and my party build started to unravel deep into the second act. Then I fell off. Do wish I’d been able to complete it. Wonderfully rendered world-building in that game!

Random guests are really quite irritating when it’s literally half of the dlc pack and the rest of it really isn’t up to much either

@Northern_munkey I’m really trying to get into Diablo 4, having purchased the bloody thing! I thought I liked the beta. It’s just that it seems SO SO repetitive. Like beyond repetitive even. I’m wondering if I understand the appeal at all tbh.

I’ve played to the point where I’ve beaten a few story bosses, done a stronghold or two, tried to keep myself bothering to do side quests despite the intense tedium of them. I dunno if I can keep going. What is it that devoted fans love so much?

While we are at it with remasters people aren’t asking for - can we have a remastered collection of Star Wars games which got butchered by reviews? I’d like to play Masters of Teras Kasai and that vehicle combat arena one. Cheers

What is actually going on with this barrage of collections of ancient games most people don’t actually even remember because they weren’t really notable?

For once I do agree that this is a weak selection. Some real riff-raff being served up as headline additions and it only gets more conspicuous from there.

It doesn’t bother me much because I’ve downloaded about 10 games from the last 3 months, none of which I’ve actually played yet !

The leaked roster acknowledged that there were still 6 spots missing from the total number didn’t it?

Cyrax and Sektor - not in the leaked roster but the trend is that if they’re part of the story but not the roster … they make the next roster

I’ve also enjoyed it but I have progressively felt it getting stale. I think it needs a lot more content and quicker roll out of new content. They’ve set up well with huge amounts of potential Disney content to dig into. Whether it really lasts is going to hinge on how they manage that. It’s crying out for more game modes and the new race types they introduced with season 2 were far from convincing!

This surprised me cos generally it seemed to have been getting 7.5-8. Perhaps those were based on a pc version?

@GodofCapcom Unfortunately you only have to spend half an hour playing any online shooter with your mic plugged in to realise what you’re up against with gamers. You mention gay characters in games and tragically - this is still seen as some HUGE statement … mostly because everyone knows that there will still be a tirade of extremely old fashioned and very cheap commentary about it amongst the ‘innnit innit innit bruv bruv bruv’ contingent of the gaming community!

This looks absolutely incredible from what they showed.

I’m really wondering what is going so right with this game … cos everything else they showed looked to me like they were developing games early in the generation of the ps4. The Avatar game looked especially ropey graphically and the new driving game also just looks a little dated when put up against what’s out there on ps5… This however … looks amazing!

… and as for the Starfield deep dive - I came out of it not having a single clue what to think. It felt like I was watching a showcase on about 6 different games. At times it looked stunning, at others just pixelated. As an experiment in fusing procedural generation with curated story and narrative it IS going to be fascinating. I’ll give it that much.

Honestly - Avowed looks like it could easily have been made for the Xbox360.

That aside, the first ten minutes literally grabbed the audience and said ‘this is going to be a proper showcase.’ I’m not convinced the rest of it lived up to that and there was still a fair amount of dross/filler. There’s no doubt it was better than Sony’s though, which was 80% dross!
