Collector's Editions without the game included do happen but are rare. However, we've never seen a steelbook be sold without a Blu-ray inside. One of the top sellers on Amazon UK right now, though, is a Horizon: Zero Dawn case without the role-playing release included. It's selling for £11.99, and while it's clearly marked, we can't help but wonder if people are purchasing this expecting to get the full game for cheap.
We're not sure how we feel about this. On the one hand, some kind of special edition would probably cost around £60, which is about the same as the game and the standalone steelbook if purchased together. But while Amazon UK has made it very clear what you're getting here, we still can't help but feel like this is a little bit misleading. What do you think? Should people be responsible for their own stupidity? Let us know below.

There'll absolutely be some people buying this thinking it's the game for £11.99. A sad state of affairs.
I actually like this - as long as people aren't being duped. As someone who went all digital this get, this kind of thing offers me a nice way to have a cool collectible without having to pay for the game twice. Cool.
I saw this and thought it was a mistake. I don't get why people would buy an empty one anyway?
Yes people will buy by mistake - mark my words, 1 star reviews stating BEWARE THIS ISN'T THE GAME on launch day.
I had no idea this was a thing... I just bought it.
People tend to forget how to read when they think they're getting a fantastic deal, so I'm sure there will be some outrage. Remember to double check before hitting that "Place Order" button people
I'm actually buying this as a case for my vita memory cards haha
"Should people be responsible for their own stupidity?"
Yes.
Send this on Amazon for For Honor too, seems to be the in thing to squeeze a few more squid out of the buyer
Saw this the other day and thought it was a great idea. Beats having to buy an overpriced special edition from game. While I am not sure I will buy this, I think its great for collectors. I do share your concern that people might get confused and buy by mistake, but it is clearly marked that no game is included
Seems fine to me. Clearly marked in the title.. They probably ended up with some surplus stock lol
Its £44 standard or £46 with the steelbook on amazon. So its a pretty good deal. I like the option of buying a steelbook with no disc as its cheap and most of the time steelbooks are locked behind an expensive collectors edition.
I think it's a good idea, though maybe a bit expensive. I like owning the standard cases so to give a sense of standardisation on my shelf. However I also like extra steelbooks.
It's very clearly listed "No game included" and repeats this in the description further down. It's not misleading and people cannot blame Amazon if they fail to read properly. People will still complain though. I think £12 is a little steep for what it is.
Always read the fine print...
@Splat Bit more than fine print in this case though isn't it lol
Stupid people will always be stupid, It doesnt matter how big you make signs or notices or lettering, there will always be people who ignore it.
I dont really see anything wrong with selling special edition cases, there seems to be a market for it, and some cases are real nice as well
@Dodoo 1000+
People come on your not only stupid but cheap to.
I don't like ps4 case, that's why I usually buy the special steelcase edition of the game, but sometimes the special edition is really expensive because some statue, so maybe this steelcase is for people that has the normal edition of the game but want to change the normal case to steelcase.
I already bought horizon limited edition (steelcase and artbook, no statue), so I don't need these. I want nier automata steelcase though, I hope some store sell the case or I'll be buying that game digital.
I hope people buying this steelcase know that they're only getting the case, not the game.
You can't account for idiots. It's clearly marked and I look forward to laughing at the people thinking they are getting a steal because they couldnt be bothered reading before clicking. The worlds full of dimebars, it'll never change.
Lol I sometimes buy empty steelcases and buy a 2nd hand game for mega cheap and throw away the bluray case. I tend to spend average £15, so basically triple AAA game in nice shiny case adds up to roughly £27... far cheaper than special edition and standard edition brand new release. So far got myself ESO, Destiny and fallout 4 steelbooks.
I like it cause I prefer a steel case for my games. This is perfect for the person who may not want to buy a $130 version and get lots of other stuff they don't want just to get the steel case. They tend to have such better art too than the regular release which is why I prefer them. If you are too lazy to read that it is not the game than that is your fault.
How much is the Limited Edition in UK, btw?
Amazon (US) sometimes sells/releases steel book editions themselves too I've noticed. The most recent one I saw I think was Titanfall 2.
Amazon trying to kickstart the steel economy I see.
I like steel boxes, but the forced nature of collectors editions make them less enviable. Viewpoint or Streets of Rage 3 didn't become collectible as they were collectors editions - its because they became rare on accident with enthusiast fans of the particular genres. I actually avoid collectors editions these days.
If this starts to be a way for companies to earn a bit more cash instead of the more unpopular business practices then cool.
Nice looking case, is there artwork inside?
If the steel case is Amazon-only, I could see some people wanting to buy it separately.
Otherwise, the game + steelcase is a much better deal.
If its being made clear and precise, then I see no issue.
It reminds me of the guy who sold a picture of an Xbox One on Ebay, clearly stating it was NOT an Xbox but a picture of it.
He had to pay back the money.
So I wouldnt be surprised if some buffoon buys this and somehow gets his/her money back because "it wasnt what I thought".
Basically as long as they are being clear, if its bought without regard to reading its description then tough, Amazon shouldnt need to hold your hand because you cant be bothered to check.
So, it turns out the biggest problem with this is Amazon's poor packaging quality and a bizarre decision to put an amazon barcode sticker on the back that is particularly difficult to remove without scratching or leaving residue.
