Re: Soapbox: PS5 Is Beautiful When Its Distinctive Features Are Used Properly

Thrillho

@GamingFan4Lyf I’m playing Ratchet and Clank and you can use cards to show you the location of collectibles. You can play a little video and there’s a text description too. It only shows the ones for the level you’re on and it works well.

@nessisonett It’s only really Astro and Ratchet I’ve used them for so far. Spider-Man had them but weren’t so useful and the Returnal ones only really showed your progress for glyphs etc but were wrong for ages.

Re: Sony Fans Bicker Over Ghost of Tsushima PS5 Paywall

Thrillho

I’m currently playing the game on PS5 and it already runs beautifully and has the option of 3D audio (which is also really good).

I’ll be interested to see quite what else they manage to eek out of the system to justify the cost but would be more than happy to pay for it. I’m more annoyed that I didn’t know this would be coming when I got the game!

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite PS5, PS4 Game of 2021 So Far?

Thrillho

Returnal and Disco Elysium for me. Both utterly incredible games and both benefit from being the only 2021 releases I’ve played so far too!

@Boucho11 Hollow Knight was one of my top 3 from the last gen. Wonderful game and one of those I wish I could play for the first time again.

Re: Jurassic World Evolution 2 Roars to PS5, PS4 This Year

Thrillho

I liked the first game too so it’s cool to see it’s coming back. My biggest gripe with the first game were that the maps were really fiddly and limited at times.

@Golem25 Tropico 5 and 6 are good games. They’re good fun without having to spend too much time with micromanagement but both still have their problems.

Re: Disco Elysium: The Final Cut (PS5) - A Hauntingly Brilliant RPG That Lives Long in the Mind

Thrillho

@ShogunRok Ha, that certainly makes more sense! There is a forum thread for the game if you want to do more spoilery chat;

https://www.pushsquare.com/forums/ps4/disco_elysium

@Pro_V_Gone No problems for me with that and my guy has stayed up until 2am each day.

@Starkei I’m planning on similar; a thorough “thinker” style play through first time, then a physical build superstar addict, and finally a paranormal run.

Re: Disco Elysium: The Final Cut (PS5) - A Hauntingly Brilliant RPG That Lives Long in the Mind

Thrillho

@ShogunRok How dare you write a review of the game and not mention Kim!? I would do anything for that man and it pains me when my character upsets him.

That is one hell of a set of political thoughts in your cabinet you goddamn Commie-Nazi! I haven't even seen the "Les Adventures" thought on some guides I've browsed.

My build has been like @nessisonett with mostly logic but high on perception, composure too. I'm on day 7 now and my one criticism is that I've gained so much XP that I have a full thought cabinet and reasonable stats across the board that it doesn't feel like such a niche character any more.

Can't wait to get another session and crack on!

Re: Returnal Trophy List Spawns Another Easy Platinum from Sony

Thrillho

@Kidfried I agree some challenging ones are good but the “simple” ones like Spider-Man, Horizon etc have you do everything there is in the game so for a developer, I think that makes sense as you want to have people see everything on offer.

I will be forever disappointed that I couldn’t get the Hollow Knight platinum as the Pantheons were too much for me. I definitely should have got something for finishing the Path of Pain though!

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Goes Gold Ahead of Release in May

Thrillho

@LordSteev First time for the DLC? Does that mean you didn’t play Shadow Broker for ME2?? It came with the PS3 version and was a fairly meaty affair.

The Zaeed and Kasumi side stories (also included on PS3) were good and Arrivals linked ME2 and 3 together.

For ME3, From Ashes gave you Javik who was a great character and made for some interesting conversations, especially if you also had Liara on the party!

Re: Disco Elysium Dev Speaks Out on PS5, PS4 Version: 'We Know It's Rough', Another Patch Promised

Thrillho

@Jaz007 To make up an example of conversation choices, you could walk into a trashed room and have options like;

“This is art, man. Total nihilism. I dig it.”
“Whoever did this must have been on some serious s**t. I need me some of this.”
“This is pretty rock and roll if you ask me.”
“Hmm.. I wonder if the owner did this or whether this was a break in”.
“This was definitely demons. The apocalypse is coming after all.”

It’s not necessarily “boring” per se but the game does push you to not play it too straight.

Re: Soapbox: My Colleagues Bet On How Far I'd Make It Through Final Fantasy VII Remake

Thrillho

The arm moving shipping containers thing is pretty amazing for managing to be almost universally hated. I also hated the voice casting (seriously, what’s with all the random nngh noises??) and the dialogue does feel like a teenager trying to write something serious and grownup.

But the combat is just so good and it wasn’t really until my second run where it clicked. It’s quite easy to stick to one character you prefer on normal difficulty but you really have to mix it up on hard.

At least you didn’t have to try and make sense of that ending..

Re: Soapbox: Kentucky Route Zero Was a Game Made Specifically For Me

Thrillho

@gbanas92 As I said to you on Twitter recently, your original review pushed me to get the game and I’m glad I did!

Beautiful artwork, an amazing soundtrack (in fact, the only gaming soundtrack I’ve actually listened to outside the game), and a truly magnificent story.

It absolutely isn’t for everyone as it almost feels like an antithesis to what a “video game” is but that’s why it’s so unique. It’s a great example of enjoying the journey as much as the destination.

Re: No Man's Sky (PS5) - Divisive Survival Game Plays Best with This Next-Gen Upgrade

Thrillho

@BowTiesAreCool The soundtrack by 65daysofstatic is fantastic and I recommend checking out their other stuff if you like it!

One of the things I really enjoyed in the game that I rarely see mentioned elsewhere is the slow learning of the language of the different alien species. You start out knowing nothing but eventually piece some words together to understand what is being said.

I thought this was such a neat idea.

Re: Soapbox: The Conversation About Games Moves Too Quickly

Thrillho

Kotaku used to features on games post-release talking about how their feelings have changed and also linking to articles about the game since it came out. Re-reviews of games I often find quite interesting.

I tend to pick games up later on now because of the sheer number of patches and updates that often come out but also to pick them up in one of the many sales. I finally picked up TLOU2 in the Black Friday sale.

Re: No Man’s Sky Origins Is Latest Major Update, Releases Next Week

Thrillho

@Matroska The thing I wonder is how many people are still buying the game?

I picked it up for £5 or something silly a few years ago post Atlas and enjoyed it but nothing since has made me desperate to go back. So I wonder how many people are deciding now is finally the time to buy it.

But big respect to them for continuing with such big free updates this far down the line.
