Re: The Division 2 - With a Few Tweaks, This Could Be Something Special

Thrillho

I'm plodding through this solo at the moment and having fun despite a number of flaws.

The cover system is great unless you happen to have taken position next to a spot which ends up being a spawn point and you get wiped out.

I agree about co-op scaling too. Someone from the Push Square clan jumped into my game (I didn't know they could do that?) and they were 10 levels above me. I was done for from that point as my weapons were next to useless.

It is a shame about the story too as the first one was minimal but I still found it interesting enough. In this, I have no idea who anyone is or what is actually going on in the mission but it's fun enough to get away with it.

Re: Game of the Year 2018: #2 - Red Dead Redemption 2

Thrillho

A fantastic game and one of the best open worlds in any game. I've said before that I've never spent so long in a game world doing so little but still enjoying it so much.

The story is a bit off in places and I wish we knew a bit more about Dutch than we got but Arthur really is a great (anti)hero.

EDIT: and what a great character Sadie is! If they do go for single player DLC (I wish), then focussing on her would be great.

Re: Poll: Are You Enjoying Red Dead Online So Far?

Thrillho

Still going with SP for now, especially while it’s still beta and they’ve not said whether progress will definitely carry over.

@ApostateMage I liked kotaku saying you earn cash at RDR2 era rates but items are valued at 2018 costs.

Re: Life Is Strange 2's Second Episode Will Have Taken Four Months to Release

Thrillho

@ShogunRok I was stung with The Wolf Among Us which had a ridiculous wait between episodes one and two.

I bought a couple of Telltale games after that but often got the discount early bird price but waited until all episodes were out.

Like you say, it felt fresh with TWD, especially with some developer vids released between episodes where they claimed to have altered writing based on what the majority of people were doing, but people seem to have lost faith with it now.

Re: Poll: Do You Buy and Play Single Player Story DLC?

Thrillho

The Witcher DLC is the only one I've really gone back for as the base game was so great. Plus, they'd made loads of incremental changes to the base game as well by the time I came back.

In most cases I never play such DLC as I've normally moved on from the game. I picked up the HZD DLC but couldn't get to grips with the controls going back and obviously went back at an end-game level.

I never bought FF15 because they'd announced so much extra content and now probably won't ever get round to it.

Re: Soapbox: Can You Truly Appreciate a Game with Walkthroughs?

Thrillho

I’m probably similar to the majority of replies here in that I use them occasionally.

Currently, I’m playing Yakuza 0 and have a couple of guides for things like locations of the real estate property, and sometimes for where new substories have appeared.

I’ve used one video to show me how to get easy strikes when bowling because screw having to get three in a row otherwise. Similarly, I used some vids to help me with HZD hunting challenges, and for hoovering up God of War collectibles (trying to locate items via text is rather hard)

I think the main game series I’ve used them for are Dark Souls/Bloodborne but only to make sure I’ve not missed any secret items.

Re: Guide: Best PS4 Games You Can Play in a Day

Thrillho

The thing that near enough ruined Rapture for me was the terrible autosave the game had. The pace is incredibly slow and the game only saves itself at specific points with no manual save.

Most of my gaming is done in the evening and I had a few sessions with the game where my options were to keep going for an unknown amount of time to hit a save point or lose everything I’d done.

Re: Review: Guacamelee! 2 (PS4)

Thrillho

Excellent. Loved the first game.. and got it as a PS+ freebie.

Any news on whether there are the challenge rooms like before? Those were solid but it felt so good to complete them.

Re: Just Cause 4 Gameplay Footage to Debut Later Today

Thrillho

I only played JC3 as a PS+ freebie and found it a bit dull. I forget what the main story was even about and had no interest in the characters. While the gameplay was fun at times, it was massively repetitive, and I found it so frustrating that the challenges didn’t have a QuickStart option but you had to watch a loading screen every time you wanted to try again..

Re: Review: Flipping Death (PS4)

Thrillho

+1 for the Stick it to the Man love

That said, this review could easily have been written for that game as it had the same pluses and negatives as this game seems to. May well pick it up at some point.

Re: Guide: Best Metal Gear Solid Games Ranked

Thrillho

Snake Eater is still top for me. I loved the changes they made, although the lack of mini-map and sight cones took some getting used to. MGS a very close second and is a game I completed so many times.

Peace Walker was great fun on the PSP and I actually really liked the art style. So many features were used later on in TPP as well, including the beloved fulton system.

MGS4 is a weird one as I don't remember a lot of it at all. I played 1-3 so many times but that game only once and don't have anywhere near as fond memories of it, even if the ending is all worth it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 231

@zeppray I assume you mean Surviving Mars? These were incredibly useful guides:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SurvivingMars/comments/8zpi79/what_am_i_doing_wrong_80_work_slots_but_60/

Key points;
-Exporting rare metals is priority one
-Stick to living quarters as apartments are resource heavy
-Use outsourcing of tech early on to get a good head start
-Self sufficiency for polymers etc is key. Polymers as the easiest I found as fuel and water you often have in abundance early on.
