Disco Elysium: The Final Cut isn't in great shape on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The console version of the critically acclaimed title suffers from a number of frustrating issues, some of which can actively prevent players from progressing through certain story beats. A patch looking to correct these problems was deployed earlier this week, but unfortunately, it didn't fix everything.
What's more, developer ZA/UM has stayed relatively quiet on the matter, which has drawn ire from disgruntled PlayStation gamers.
However, the studio has now published a well-meaning statement addressed directly to those playing Disco Elysium on PS5 and PS4. It reads:
Hey y’all,
Maybe blame it on the Doomed Commercial Area, birthplace of doomed dreams, resting place for every venture. Blame it on an incursion of the apocalypse in a localized space, or whatever Tequila Sunset hits you with. Blame it on a call to Abigail.
Or just blame it on us. Because it is our fault, that’s true. We’re all just human beings dreaming big, and not always making those dreams come true like we hope. But we’re going to try anyway, and try again, until we get it right. And we will.
Patch 1.3 is being worked on right now. We don’t have a launch date, but we wanted to tell you it’s coming, and tell you what y’all could expect.
- Tons of Voice Over fixes
- Improved Kim pathfinding
- Fixed controller interaction during Seafort Dream
- Fixed controller interaction with The Pigs
- Fixed Sandcastle interaction
- Fixed car interaction
- Fixed instances where the tide never receded near the swings
- Fixes pawnshop healing interaction
- Fixed Thought Cabinet freezes
- Fixed save game bugs
- Fixes for Cutscene locks and edge-case interactions with controllers
- And little bit this and that, general house cleaning after stormy development!
And that’s all we can say for now. We know it’s rough, we know it’s our fault, and we’re here to tell you it’s getting fixed.
Thanks for your patience. Keep the days happy.
Your pal,
Freelance Ad Agent,
Idiot Doom Spiral
So another update is coming soon, and ZA/UM knows that it's cocked up. Hopefully the game's remaining issues will be sorted out with this next patch, and we can finally get stuck into what is an undoubtedly fascinating release.

I'll buy this once everything is ironed out.
Honestly, I haven’t had any issues since the latest patch. My gripes were all pretty much fixed.
No problems for me so far and I’m really enjoying the game.
Sorry to be so upbeat about it.
It’s fine if it isn’t finished. It’s not fine to release it knowing it’s not finished...
@thefourfoldroot The game is finished though, it was finished over a year ago. This is a result of a small studio trying to port their game to every platform conceivable.
@nessisonett
So the port isn’t finished.
To be honest I’ve not played it so I don’t know how bad it is, but my point was that, if the dev knows it’s not finished and need to apologise, why release it? Finish it first. Surely releasing early will simply mean those who don’t keep up with updates are less likely to buy and they’ll lose sales overall.
The only reason I can think of is the publisher doesn’t want to give people more time to cancel pre-orders.
@thefourfoldroot Anybody who’s ever developed even the most simple of software knows that you’ll always find something to improve. At some point you have to release. Clearly this could have done with a delay but if devs waited until every single issue was sorted before releasing then no games would release.
It’s really not too bad, especially considering the team is inexperienced. This is how they get better 👍
I wanted the Switch version (basically for the portability)
But the PS4 version make me think I might as well go for the steam version / Gpd Win 3 combo.......but the collector side in me wants a physical copy.
Looking forward to seeing how that Switch port turns out.
@Ralizah I dunno, the PC version is so brilliantly optimised that it runs on literal potatoes. There must be something else going on in the porting process.
@nessisonett It's a small team working with platforms they're not comfortable with. The "it's not powerful enough" idea went out the window the moment we heard it was having problems on PS5.
With that said, I still imagine it's easier to brute force the game into an acceptable state on a system like the PS5 than on a much more resource-constrained handheld. We'll see. I'm kinda hoping they delay the port so that it's not a technical mess at launch.
@Ralizah Hopefully the Switch version has touchscreen support. The controller is not exactly comfortable to play games like this.
Yet this remains on the PS store....
Any ETA on the review pushsquare?
@nessisonett It'd be nice, but I'm not expecting anything.
Switch version is ONLY appealing because of portability and the intimacy that affords. Otherwise, I'd never play a game like this on a console.
Makes me see how BS reviewers are, said how great this version was, probably never even played it for most of them, just rehashing the review of the PC version
@OrigamiCrane If anything it’s the opposite of “being too far up it’s own butt” as it almost belittles you for making the boring choices in the game.
It’s a very clever game that has an amazing array of choices and one that I’ll certainly be replaying to see how differently it can be played.
@Thrillho I’m almost proud that I’ve avoided the Unbelievably Boring F**k trophy 😂
@nessisonett I know it’s coming eventually
Just blame Sony, it's all the rage at the moment.
@nessisonett A game doesn’t need to be perfect, but to be fair, it launched in a state where it was common enough to be unable to progress on the game. That’s a valid complaint about it releasing too early.
@Thrillho What constitutes a “boring choice”?
@Jaz007 I get that and honestly, I wasn’t happy about the bugs at all given it was less buggy on its initial launch on PC a year and a half ago. At the same time though, they’ve fixed almost every single issue I’ve had in about a week. Games that launch in that state often take a lot longer trying to fix it, especially games made by bigger studios with a lot more manpower.
I don’t have this game but I’m so 🤬 tired of this kinda story. “Sorry we released something that wasn’t ready to be released but thanks for your money. We are working on it.”
@Thrillho It certainly has that magic feel of late 90s CRPGs. Best dialogue since Planescape: Torment.
I have been absolutely loving this game. It’s such a trip and I’ve never seen anything like it. The only issue I’ve had on the PS5 so far is the sandcastle issue and besides that it’s more or less been great so far. I have also some odd interactions trying to purchase thought slots occasionally but not sure if that’s me doing something wrong!
I really hope they improve the framerates especially on the PS5. Its pretty sluggish still.
@Everglow ‘pseudo pretentious’ means they’d be faking being pretentious. Which probably describes the game well.

Maybe I have just been crazy lucky but I haven’t had any issues and have played about 20 hours so far.
This game has been consistently amusing from the first scene. The narrator is great, it is NOT a game that takes itself too seriously, and so far no game in recent memory has made me smile so often. And the things that make me smile generally tend to be a little twisted.
Oddly enough, on a base ps4, I'm having more problems clicking on items of interest than I had prior to the patch. Still, it's not anything that really dampens my pleasure for playing the game. It's no action game, it's Planescape Torment on qualudes. Old school rpg with great writing, and yes, great narration.
When will developers learn? Release a broken game and people won’t forget
@OrigamiCrane I'm with @Thrillho on this one. When I first heard about the game part of me wondered whether it would be smothered in pretentiousness. I even wondered whether all the praise was down to people wanting to come across as intellectuals.
But having played it, the game's heart is definitely in the right place. It has a very good sense of humour and many of the characters are believably grounded. There are times when it might seem like it's trying a little too hard, but generally speaking, the writing is of a very high quality and the game's built on that.
@nessisonett Come on, there's no need for insults — it's definitely not a game for everyone.
@ShogunRok It’s one thing to criticise the game. It’s another to, rather ironically, be incredibly pretentious by using big fancy words that they don’t actually understand the meaning of. While criticising the game for using big fancy words.
@Jaz007 To make up an example of conversation choices, you could walk into a trashed room and have options like;
“This is art, man. Total nihilism. I dig it.”
“Whoever did this must have been on some serious s**t. I need me some of this.”
“This is pretty rock and roll if you ask me.”
“Hmm.. I wonder if the owner did this or whether this was a break in”.
“This was definitely demons. The apocalypse is coming after all.”
It’s not necessarily “boring” per se but the game does push you to not play it too straight.
This is the first video game I've played with a scouser in it. 10/10.
Not sure why I never have technical issues with games. I guess I get most of them well after release, but I got this one a week before the latest patch and I've had no problems. I don't really get the pretentious comments either. It's a rundown character in a rundown town that likes to philosophize. Almost ironic but really not. And a bunch of the other characters have their own important things they like to discuss. It's not important to me, but it really feels like it's important to them and they know a lot about what is important to them. The creators are trying to make us think, but then again, some of the answers are so far off the wall, it obvious it's just tongue-in-cheek. They know it's just a game. And it's a great game that has made me laugh several times but admittedly made me fall asleep at least twice.
Hope they get ironed out. Have it on pc but want to buy it again on PS5 for those sweet trophies and to support what is one of my games of the generation. There is simply nothing else like it and their vision should be realised for more people to enjoy
