The Ace Combat series is one that remains fairly niche despite having been around for more than two decades. These arcadey fighter jet action games are beloved by fans for their cheesy stories and fun dogfight gameplay, and the latest iteration is no exception. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown released for PlayStation 4 (with some great PlayStation VR support) in 2019, and it's up there with the best the series has to offer.
However, not only was the game a critical hit — it turns out it's been a commercial hit as well. As the game turns two years old, developer Project Aces has revealed the game has now sold more than 2.5 million copies. Kazutoki Kono, brand director of Ace Combat, added that it's now outsold the previous best-selling game in the series — Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies — making it the new top dog.
Incidentally, the game will be receiving a free content update tomorrow (19th January) to celebrate its second anniversary. The update will add a bunch of new skins for various aircraft, including an awesome glowing skin for the X-02S Strike Wyvern. You can see some of these for yourself in the trailer at the top of this article. You'll also get a load of new emblems to further customise your planes.

It’s a fun game and almost permanently on sale now which must help sales somewhat!
The VR mode was amazing. Just a shame it’s not the entire game.
I preordered it with the season pass and PS2 game.
I never actually tried any of the post release content. I just remember seeing some new planes and skins. I might go back and have a look.
Great news, I really enjoyed this game and it is one of those which I show to people who haven't played VR as sitting in the cockpit looking around is awesome and a real sense of immersion, if you don't get motion sick of course!
I like and played the previous entry on psone back then, I haven't play this yet, I think I'll try it when there's good psn discount. I hope the game is updated for ps5, 4K and 60 or even 120 fps will be cool
PS5 update would be nice!?
How does it run on PS4/PS5? 30 FPS?
One of the permanent residents in my ps
@IonMagus
I think this one is 60fps all the way!
It took the game forever to get to a reasonable price. Now it's at a decent price I don't want it. I got the chance to try it out free on a months free game pass trial I had and genuinely thought it was rubbish. Highly overrated imo
I think i will look it up looks cool.
A game like this HAS to have high fps for me to have fun with it. I'll wait till I can get my hands on a PS5.
I picked it up at Target in the U.S. for $9.99 tonight.
I'll need to revisit the game when I get that 4K high refresh monitor.
@SweetSummerShunv
Why? It runs 1080p@60fps unless you play on PC
@BrettAwesome And I do play it on PC
