Re: Soapbox: God of War Ragnarok Is a Real Game of the Year Rival to Elden Ring

The_Pixel_King

I know I’ll be laughed out of the building, maybe even booed, but my current Game of the Year is Gran Turismo 7. It’s fast, it’s gorgeous and it’s seriously fun.

That being said, I’d be surprised if God of War Regnarok doesn’t pip my beloved GT7 to the GOTY finish line. I only got around to playing its predecessor earlier this year and I absolutely adored every last one of the 40-odd hours I put into the game. So much so, in fact, it’s now one of my top five games of all time.

As for other contenders, I’ve had a blast with the fabulous Tunic, though I’ve not yet finished it. But it’s up there. I also enjoyed Horizon Forbidden West, however I was ultimately left disappointed with the story and a couple other elements. It’s a great game for sure, but for me, just not quite GOTY material.

Disclaimer: despite buying it shortly after release, I still haven’t gotten around to starting Elden Ring as yet. Shame on me.

Re: Poll: Will You Pay the PSVR2 Launch Price?

The_Pixel_King

Hey, where’s the option for I’ll buy it if Half-Life: Alyx is announced for PSVR2? 😂

That’s my current stance on Sony’s spiffy new headset. Unless, we get a new Astro game of course. I absolutely adored Astro’s Playroom, which is probably still my favourite PS5 experience to date!

@Westernwolf4 That’s so cool to hear my brother. My wife isn’t a gamer at all either, but like you, we support and lean on each other wherever possible. It’s her 49th birthday this month and our 28th anniversary in January, so I need to start thinking about presents. If only she were a gamer, too. It’d be so easy to buy for her! 😂

Oh and me too, I can’t wait for TLOU TV show. It’s looking like it’ll be awesome. After Zelda, I’d say that TLOU is pretty much my favourite game series. In fact, I really don’t get the hate for Part II. I absolutely adored every single minute of the 30 hours it took me to beat the game. I may even replay it once I’ve beaten Part I.

The Last of Us Part I for me this weekend. My amazing wife bought it for me as a surprise earlier this week. Even after nearly 28 years of marriage, she never ceases to surprise me. Anyway, I adored Part II when I finally got around to playing it at the back end of last year, but I never managed to finish the PS4 remaster of the first game. Guess life got in the way at the time.

However, I started Part I yesterday, playing the opening hour or two. Yes, it’s extremely expensive for what it is, but it also happens to be one of the best games ever made, and it’s also incredibly gorgeous. I’m having a great time with it so far.

Whatever game you’re playing on whatever system you have, I wish everyone an amazing weekend of gaming!

Re: Hardware Review: Backbone One: PlayStation Edition - The Best Way to Enjoy Remote Play

The_Pixel_King

I have one of these, though not the PS branded one. Just the standard black version. Personally speaking, I absolutely love the thing. However, my internet must be pretty useless, as playing remote play via my PS5 is oftentimes extremely janky and slow, resulting in a rather frustrating experience. Even when I’m in the same room as the console.

No, I mainly got mine for native ports of console games. Titles like Dead Cells, Transistor, GRID Autosport and The Witness are literally transformed into genuinely fantastic handheld experiences thanks to the Backbone. The original mobile version of Horizon Chase Turbo is far better thanks the physical controls, too. Especially the analogue triggers.

If that’s what you mainly want it for, I say go for it, you definitely won’t regret your purchase. But if it’s purely for PS5 remote play? Just make sure your internet connection is up to the task. If it is, you’re in for a real treat and as close to a Vita successor as we’re likely to get.

Re: Mini Review: What Remains of Edith Finch (PS5) – Still Immaculate All These Years Later

The_Pixel_King

@GuyProsciutto Erm, you’re really paraphrasing there, my friend. I absolutely know that WROEF is a game I want, nay, need to play. I just haven't found the time to do so due to a couple other games taking up a lot of my spare time and real life stuff.

Just so happens that I’m pretty much ready to play it now, and wondered if people who’ve played the game think the PS5 version would be worth the double-dip. In simple terms; should I buy Edith Finch on PS5 or will the Switch version I already own suffice for this particular game?

Perhaps I should’ve been clearer.

Re: PS5 Folders, 1440p Support Part of New Beta Update Out Today

The_Pixel_King

Folders? Now that’s what I’m talking about. However, ideally I’d really want them to be on the Home Screen much like the way PS4 had them. Either that or make them the default page when switching over to the library screen.

Either way, I’m just happy we didn’t have to wait as long as we did with Nintendo Switch to get folder support. That took five long years and it’s still rubbish!

Oh and one last little gripe; when we first got our PS5’s, the game icons/tiles were ace. Then we had an update that changed them to match PS4 icons. Some, like Deathloop and Sackboy: A Big Adventure for instance are downright horrible, and others like the Spider-Man games are a definite downgrade. I just wish Sony would change them back.

Re: NieR: Automata Community Left 'in Shambles' After Discovery of 'Impossible' Door

The_Pixel_King

@Shepherd_Tallon I really want to play NieR Automata, too. But now that a Switch version has been announced for release in October, I don’t know whether to wait and play it there instead. I know playing on PS5 will be better, but as the game requires multiple playthrough’s, I’m thinking that portability may well be a particular strength on this occasion. What to do? Arrrgh.

Re: Stray's Day One Pawtch Notes Correct Naughty Cat Collisions on PS5, PS4

The_Pixel_King

@nathanSF Of course I respect your opinion, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you my friend. I have quite severe Crohn’s disease, am often in extreme pain and have needed several bowel resection operations. Whenever I’m in a lot of pain or on all fours throwing up in the bathroom in the middle of the night for instance, our family cat is always with me. He even taps my hand or face with his paw and makes little whining sounds, which to me, indicates he’s worried about me.

My wife was never a cat person and even she adores him. She even takes him out for rides in the car. Though in general, I agree that cats are far more selfish than dogs. My daughter has a Pomeranian, who’s sole purpose appears to make her laugh and hug him. Whenever I see him though, all I tend to think of is how much I’d like Tokyo Jungle on PS5. As for Stray however, I’m really looking forward to it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 433

The_Pixel_King

I had my second Covid vaccination yesterday and I’m feeling pretty rough, but it will not deter me from tackling Cuphead’s exquisite Delicious Last Course. Speaking of DLC, I’m also back into the fabulous Dead Cells in a pretty big way. The recent update really helps progression.

My wife is at work, so I’m also about to watch the first of the last two Stranger Things Season Four episodes right now. With all the ramped up horror elements, it’s by far the best season yet.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 432

The_Pixel_King

I’m still working through my backlog, and concentrating on some older games that I never got around to playing at release.

I started the incredible Resident Evil 2 (PS5) for the first time a few days back, and should have it wrapped up today. Once that’s done, I’m rather excited to start Red Dead Redemption 2 and hopefully have it finished before I go on holiday in the middle of next month. Oh and if I have time, I’ll also give the new Gran Turismo 7 update a quick once over!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Re: Best PS Plus Games

The_Pixel_King

I’m still on the fence whether or not to buy Premium for a couple months, but in the meantime, I’m lucky enough to have the majority of these games loaded up onto my PS5.

Unfortunately, I missed most of the PS4 generation, but since picking up Sony’s latest console a few months after it launched, I’ve played what are now two of my favourite ever games, namely The Last of Us Part II and God of War 2018. I also finished Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut last month and loved it so much that I even got the platinum trophy. And I really don’t usually go for those. I’m currently playing the Resident Evil 2 remake for the first time and having an absolute blast, but once that’s wrapped up, I’ll be moving on to either Red Dead Redemption II or Persona 5 Royal.

Once they’re done and dusted, if there’s nothing else new to play, I may well go with one of the new tiers and finally get around to playing some of the rest of the PS4 library that I’ve been wanting to play, such as Days Gone, Gravity Rush 2, The Last Guardian and WipEout Omega Collection. I’m gutted that I never had the chance to play these games when they originally released, but I sure am having a blast checking them off my backlog. Plus, Astebreed looks right up my street, too!
