Sure, I play the odd Activision/Blizzard game, but the Microsoft acquisition of the company wouldn’t affect my desire to own the latest PlayStation console in the slightest. I have a Series S, but my PS5 will always be my primary system!
Microsoft are doing whatever they can to force gamers to buy an Xbox. I mean, I buckled and bought a Series S at Christmas, my first Xbox since the heady 360 days. Don’t get me wrong, my PS5 is still my primary console, but Game Pass just makes too much sense not to!
While I absolutely wish they would, I really can’t see Sony’s big first party titles turning up on their new Game Pass rivalling PS Plus service day and date any time soon. Maybe when they’re a year or two old at best, but certainly not at release.
When I heard that WipEout was headed to mobile, I was kinda excited, but this??! Are they having a sodding laugh? If you could flip your phone into landscape and use a controller to actually, you know, control your craft, then it could be decent. But this autopilot, portrait, polished turd? Thanks, but no thanks, Sony!
Finally platinum’d Death’s Door this week, so I’m now moving back over to Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. I’m just over 30 hours in, so I hope to actually finish it in the next few weeks. I’ve got Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy lined up and ready for when that does eventually happen. I’ve heard nothing but great things, so I really can’t wait!
As I’ve got Covid and currently too ill to make my way into the living room to play anything, let me throw my top five PlayStation games for 2021 out there.
1. Death’s Door
2. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
3. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut
4. Returnal
5. Hades
I should say that I haven’t yet played (or even bought) Hitman 3, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy or Resident Evil Village. Hopefully I’ll manage to get to them early in the new year or so.
@Nf157 @KingPev Awww, thanks for the well wishes, guys. Means a lot. Honestly. A little kindness sure goes a long way, especially when you feel like crap.
Nothing for me this weekend. I have Covid for the second time. I also got it last Boxing Day (2020), which is kinda weird. Either way, I’m far too unwell to play any games for a while. Just typing this message has taken me nearly 10mins. Happy new year everyone.
Fantastic top three there, though I haven’t played enough of Capcom Arcade Stadium to make any assumptions regarding its quality. Turrican Flashback looks pretty cool, too.
This weekend I’m finishing off my umbrella run for the Death’s Door platinum and plodding along in the fabulous Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. Two outstanding games!
@Rural-Bandit I’ve been thinking about the black covers, but my current white console matches my Switch OLED, so I may just stick with what I’ve got. For now at least! 😂
@nessisonett Makes me glad it was on in the middle of the night. Had it been during more sociable hours, I may well have lost three and a half hours I’d never get back. Thankfully, I got a full eight hours sleep instead!
I’m back to my personal game of the year, Death’s Door, this weekend. After beating the game earlier in the week, I’ve now mopped up the last few shiny trinkets and shrines to 100% the game. Now I just need to do an umbrella run to pop the platinum.
Other than that, I’m still slowly working my way through the fabulous Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, which I adore so much, I don’t want it to end.
Just £10 to upgrade? Now that’s a bargain. I’ve still not played Lost Legacy, so definitely count me in! At £44.99, even the full retail price is pretty reasonable.
Here are my top five PlayStation Games of the Year. Though it must be said that I still haven’t yet played Deathloop, Kena: Bridge of Spirits or Resident Evil Village this year, which may, or may not, have affected my top five.
1. Death’s Door
2. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
3: Returnal
4. Hades
5. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut
Also, shout out to Guilty Gear Strive and The Pedestrian. If only it was a top seven!
Great news! I’ve been really hoping that The Ascent would come to PS5. Now we just need Sable. Oh and I’m also hoping that Tunic will make its way to PSN once it’s released on the Xbox consoles.
Despite its current state, I would have picked the GTA Trilogy up had they done a physical PS5 release, but no dice = no buy for me. I’ve probably dodged a bullet in any case.
After taking a break to beat what is one of my top three games of the year, Death’s Door, I’m now back to working my way through the incredible Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut on PS5.
I’ve had the pleasure of playing Death’s Door on PS5 for the past week and not only is it hands down the best indie of the year, it rivals Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Returnal and Metroid Dread for my personal game of the year.
This game is an absolute joy from start to finish and all for a very modest £15.99 price tag. Though it does have to be said that the top down Zelda’s are my favourite series in all of gaming.
@RaZieLDaNtE Hey buddy! Have you not watch BCS yet? As far as I’m concerned, yes, it really is worth it. It’s a bit slower than Breaking Bad, but the story is so good and you’ll learn to hate Chuck as much as you’ll love Jimmy (Saul). Seriously, watch a couple episodes and give it a chance.
I’ve ordered myself the physical edition of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which is due to arrive today. So I’ll be playing that and continuing my playthrough of the excellent Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut, where I’m around halfway through.
[EDIT] Kena arrived today, so I’ll be getting around to that tomorrow with any luck!
@gbanas92 Great minds, right? Man, I’ve wanted to play Kentucky Route Zero for the longest time. Seeing as we have similar tastes and you give it such a high recommendation, maybe I’ll pick it up next time it goes on sale on either PSN or the Switch eShop. Either way, I have it wishlisted on both!
While I’m happy that Rockstar has finally broke its silence and gone on record to say that the games will indeed receive updates, the fact they released in this state at all has stained the company’s reputation to such an extent that it will take years to repair. And rightly so.
Ultimately however, I just hope the GTA Trilogy gets the post launch support the games – and fans – deserve. Fingers crossed that the upcoming physical editions include at least some of the patchers on disc/cartridge.
I’ve fancied Guardians of the Galaxy on PS5 since launch, and a good update is almost as enticing as a good sale for me. I’ve got some store credit, so maybe I’ll pick this one up next time I’m passing my local GAME store.
@gbanas92 @themightyant Between the both of you, you’ve picked some of my favourite indies. Especially Inside, VVVVVV and The Unfinished Swan. Great selection of games, guys!
@velio84 Yep, I’ve had my eye on The Pathless for ages, too. At £17.99, I think it’s time I finally bit the bullet and picked it up.
[EDIT] I just checked online and Smyths Toys have the physical version of The Pathless on sale at just £14.99 right now, so I think I’ll grab it there instead.
A very brief experience is sometimes just what we’re looking for between bigger AAA experiences.
I would check this one out myself, but I have plenty of alternatives sitting in my backlog as it is! It looks and sounds great, so maybe I’ll pick it up at some point in the future.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Metroid Dread are my personal favourite games from the nominations listed (but why no Returnal? 😡). For some reason however, I have a funny feeling that it’ll be Deathloop that picks up the gong for Game of the Year.
As a huge fan of all three games on PS2, I was extremely excited for this trilogy, but ultimately, I’m glad I held off of preordering.
However, GTA III, in particular, is a very important game to me as it came out during what was an incredibly difficult time in my life while I was in my mid-twenties, and it just helped me escape for so many hours on end.
So as long as the games various issues are remedied, I’ll still be picking the Trilogy up on PS5. I’m just hoping it does get fixed, so I can buy it!
I’m betting that at least half of the 'reviewers' haven’t even played the game. I’m still planning on picking it up on PS5, but I’ll wait until we’re at least a couple of patches down the road.
Still making my through the utterly incredible Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut on PS5. Over on Switch, I should have Metroid Dread wrapped up over the course of the weekend. Both games are insanely fun.
1. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
2. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut
3. Astro’s Playroom
4. Returnal
5. Hades
6. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Other potential contenders that I own, but haven’t yet got around to playing include, Demon’s Souls, Disco Elysium and FF7 Remake.
Add in something like Deathloop or RE Village, and what a Top Ten list of games that is for what’s just the FIRST YEAR of a new generation. Absolutely incredible and, aside from the games we already know about, I can’t wait to see what 2022 brings us on PS5.

@Rural-Bandit Yes, it says so in the article:
And yes, there'll be different kinds of covers depending on the type of PS5 that you own — with a disc drive or without.
Re: Trek to Yomi Is Still 2022's Most Promising Samurai Game
Can’t wait for this. Reminds me of a monochromatic 2D Ghost of Tsushima. Which is exactly what I didn’t know I wanted.

@KorsaRaph Strange, right? I bought Hotwheels Unleashed physical today for £22.99. I saw this too, but went with the toy racer instead.

I’m actually rather interested in this. I played Galaxy on Fire to death on mobile back in the day, at this looks pretty cool.
@awp69 Damn, now I REALLY want it!

Shame I couldn’t vote for six 😢
1. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

5. Hades
6. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
