I’ve been away on a short family trip to Amsterdam this past week and only had my Switch for entertainment on the Eurostar. So this weekend, I’m really eager to dive back into Stellar Blade. Just hope I can still perfect parry!
Here’s hoping a certain Forza Horizon 5 makes its way over at some point. I just sold my Series X this past weekend and that’s the only game I’ll genuinely miss. Well, that and Vampire Survivors, but that’s already confirmed for a summer release on PlayStation. I mean, at this point, I really can’t see Microsoft shifting that many more copies of Playground’s spectacular open world racer.
@NieR_Dark Thanks for the advice my friend. I picked up NieR Automata last year and I’ve been meaning to start it ever since. At first, I actually bought the Switch version, but loved the first hour so much, I stopped right there and ordered the PS4 version. It just felt like such a special game that I wanted to experience the best version possible. So I’ll be starting it on PS5 as soon as I’m done with Stellar Blade.
Much like last week, I’m all about the fabulous Stellar Blade this weekend. I’m about 12 hours in and really enjoying the way the combat is evolving and earning Skill Points like they’re going out of fashion.
Once that’s wrapped up, I’ve got both NieR Automata and Devil May Cry 5 lined up. After feeling pretty burned out on FFVII Rebirth, Stellar Blade has helped reinvigorate my gaming once more. I’ll get back to Rebirth, but right now I’m really enjoying the immediacy of Stellar Blade.
Personally, I’m not at all bothered by the outfit changes, but I do have a question. I bought the physical disc version of Stellar Blade, but when I inserted the disc it automatically had version 1.2 on disc, with no separate download file. Is it me or did I miss something?
Regarding the actual game, it’s fantastic. I’m only 4 or 5 hours in, but I’m really enjoying it. The combat, exploration, visuals, score and overall vibe are amongst some of the very best I’ve experienced in quite a while. This is shaping up to potentially becoming my favourite game of the year so far.
I’m a massive action game fan and yes, I’m taking a break from FFVII Rebirth to play Stellar Blade today. I almost always finish what I’m currently playing before starting anything new, but I’m definitely making an exception on this occasion.
It was also refreshing to see version 1.2 on the disc, so no day one patch. Unless my PS5 just didn’t show the patch as a download I guess?
Super excited for this. Roll on tomorrow! Just found out that my wife (who is currently overseas visiting family) preordered the game for me! And there was me thinking this is the one game that she wouldn’t really approve of. After 29 years of marriage, that woman still has the ability to surprise me. She’s an angel.
I took a punt on Cocoon this past week and had a blast. But with that now finished and the platinum in the bag, I may well go back to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this weekend. I left it just as I was arriving at the Gold Saucer.
However, having just binged The Last of Us TV show with my daughter over the past couple days, she really wants to know what happens in Part II. So, with her home from uni for the next couple weeks and my wife visiting family overseas, we might start a fresh play through of The Last of Us Part II Remastered. I’m itching to know if she’ll love it as much as I do!
I’m 52 hours into Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and still haven’t even beaten chapter 7 yet. I’m absolutely loving this game and will be playing a lot more over the weekend, but will I be able to beat it by the time Stellar Blade comes out? One thing’s for sure, I’ll have a lot of fun trying.
Single player games should always be the primary and most fundamental pillar of this industry. As such, I’ll always support great games that embrace that concept and I’ll definitely be there day one for Stellar Blade. Helps that I loved the demo!
I’ve been really taking my time with Rebirth. I’m already 50 hours in and I’ve not even finished chapter 6 yet. With Stellar Blade just around the corner, I’d better get my skates on!
Absolutely loved the demo. So excited for this! Just hope my wife lets me buy it. I mean, after 29 years of marriage, you’d think she’d trust me not to lust over a video game character, right? Right?
@Kidfunkadelic83 @Voltan @StrickenBiged Thank you so much for the kind words and advice my friends. It really means a lot to me. You know what, it’s only £35, so I’ll pick up Helldivers 2 in the next few weeks and give it a go. I’ll also reach out to see if you’re up for a round or two while helping out a noob! Sounds like it’d be super fun.
If you want to add me on PSN, please don’t hesitate. You can find me with the username Aces73High, but please don’t feel like you have to! Thanks again guys. Like I said, it means a lot ♥️
There’s a lot of Spider-Man 2 hate (though that may be a slightly excessive word) out there. Personally, I absolutely loved the game. Yes, it was an iterative sequel, but it was also fantastic fun grabbing the platinum.
As for Helldivers 2, I’m not really a multiplayer kind of gamer, but maybe I’ll give it a try one of these days? My biggest problem is as a 50yr old, I just don’t have the friends to game with online. Sounds like I’m missing out though.
After not being sure for the first ten minutes or so, I ended up absolutely loving the Stellar Blade demo and I’m so glad it plays as good as it looks. I can’t wait for it to finally launch.
Outside of FF7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade was always my most anticipated game of the year and I can’t wait get stuck into the demo on Friday. All being well, this will be my next PS5 pick up. Looks great.
Can’t wait for this. To my own complete surprise Final Fantasy XVI is my favourite PS5 game yet. Though I’m only on chapter 4 in Rebirth, so I guess things could change.
Now that I’ve wrapped up the Dead Space remake, I started Final Fantasy VII Rebirth last weekend. I’m only 13 hours in, but it’s already shaping up to be another incredible experience. Despite what I’ve read in so many comments sections regarding this game, I think it looks absolutely gorgeous.
Having wrapped up the excellent Dead Space remake last night, I can finally start Final Fantasy VII Rebirth this weekend. I was thinking about playing Crisis Core Reunion first, but I can’t do it. I need to play Rebirth now!
I absolutely adored Spider-Man 2. It’s one of the rare games that made me want to grab the platinum. With that now secured, there’s not really that much in this update for me, but if they eventually release DLC in the future, I’ll be swinging back to this one for sure.
What we actually want is a new full-length Astro game…. but I’ll still take this for sure! As for Sackboy however, although I bought it a couple years back, I only got around to playing it over Christmas and I absolutely loved it. Such a fun platformer.
After finishing (and platting) Spider-Man 2 on Monday, I finally got around to starting Dead Space while waiting for Thursday and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to drop through my letterbox. So as excited as I am to start Rebirth, my plan is to finish that up over the weekend first. Though I have to say, as someone who never played the original, this Dead Space remake is pretty fantastic!
Stellar Blade has been my most anticipated PS5 game for a while now, and I just hope it lives up to our expectations. It’s looking really positive so far.
I’ve been interested in No Man’s Sky ever since its initial PS4 reveal, but never bit the bullet. Sounds like this is the perfect opportunity to see if it clicks with me on PS5. Looking forward to finding out!
Now that I finished Spider-Man Remastered last week, I’m currently 10 or so hours into Spider-Man 2 and having a great time. So I’ll definitely be carrying on with that this weekend.
Whatever you’re playing, have a great weekend, folks!
I absolutely adore Dead Cells. I’ve put well over 200 hours into it across PS4, PS5 and Switch, and it’s hands down my favourite indie game of all time.
In fact, on the original PS4 version, I was just three trophies shy of achieving the platinum. If only trophies transferred over to the recent PS5 version. Doesn’t matter though, I’ve been more than happy to start all over again. Dead Cells is indeed an all-timer.
@HotGoomba Haha! I wonder what ever happened to Filip Miucin after he sabotaged his own IGN career?
Well, I’ve managed to finish both Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Super Mario Bros Wonder in the last week, so I’m now thinking about what to start next. I’ll either go straight to Spider-Man 2 or, in preparation for FFVII Rebirth, maybe I’ll finally start Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion. Either way, it’s nice to chalk a couple games off the old backlog.
I grabbed the base game at release and then the Separate Ways DLC as soon as that came out. Collectively, it was easily one of my favourite gaming experiences of 2023.
Some first-party news would be great, but personally, I’m just hoping that Stellar Blade ends up as good to play as it is to look at. The thought of a new-gen answer to Bayonetta is amazing, so its been at the top of my personal wishlist ever since it was first revealed.
The Last of Part II was (and still is) my favourite game of all time, so I wasted no time in handing over £10 for the Remastered version on PS5. Can’t wait to replay the campaign and give No Return a try, too.
Despite Final Fantasy XVI running it very close, The Last of Us Part II remains my favourite game of all time, and I genuinely can’t wait to replay it and give that No Return mode a try while I’m at it.
Yes, for me, TLOU2 and FF16 are indeed both genuine masterpieces. I know most people won’t share that sentiment, but it will never take away from my love of either game.
I’m not the biggest fan of fighting games, in fact, I’m pretty useless at them, but this looks awesome. I also played a few rounds of the demo over Christmas with my brother and enjoyed it even more than Street Fighter 6 (where he beat me almost every time). Man, I’m feeling the hype and really want to add Tekken 8 to my growing PS5 collection.
I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll happily say it again, Final Fantasy XVI was easily my game of the year. I put 300 hours into Tears of the Kingdom over the summer, but then I played FF16, which beats it in pretty much every respect.
@MrGilly69 That’s awful about the PowerWash Simulator trophy glitch. Thankfully I had no issues with that. All that’s stopping my Platinum are the challenges. Just need gold on four more and I’ll have it. Need to look up which ones are the easiest because, following 64 blissful hours, I had such a nightmare with it, I had to just put it down.
I’ve been playing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered over Christmas, but that’s on hold for a while. My eldest daughter, who’s 28, needed emergency surgery last night. Completely out the blue, they found a 13cm cyst on one of her ovaries, which was cutting off her blood supply. After a totally sleepless night, we’re off to the hospital to visit her now. Thank God she’s okay.
Hey my friend. Thank you so much for remembering me and taking the time to reply. That means a lot to me. I’ll read your message properly when I have the mental capacity, but I’ve just found out (completely out of the blue) that my eldest daughter has to have emergency surgery this evening.
She went into hospital this morning with abdominal pain and it turns out she has a 13cm cyst on her ovary. Her mum, sister and myself are unsurprisingly all over the place right now, but I wanted to take a minute to say thank you.
Honestly, I’m sure everything will be fine. She’s 28 and she’s very fit and otherwise healthy. You’re a great person who is clearly kind and super polite. It’s good to be reminded of the goodness in this world during such difficult times. I wish you and your family all the best of luck, love and happiness for the new year. Speak soon, brother. And peace be unto you.
@Kienda So sorry to hear about the health issues your family went through, but it sounds like you’ve come through the other side with a son who is healthy. And that’s far better and more important than all the consoles and games in the world. Wishing you and your entire family a much better year ahead my friend. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.
Once I saw that my game of the year, Final Fantasy XVIonly made fifth place, I was really hoping that the fabulous Resident Evil 4 remake would have taken the Push Square game of the year award.
Looks like it’s down to Spider-Man 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 to scrap it out between them. Either way, all this just goes to show what an utterly incredible year 2023 has been for video game fans.
Was hoping this might feature higher, but that’s okay. Final Fantasy XVI is easily my personal Game of the Year and I can’t wait to go back to New Game+ when the second DLC releases in the spring.
In fact, this got me into Final Fantasy as a series. After XVI, I went straight to VII Remake, and I even picked up Crisis Core FFVII Reunion, too. Can’t wait for Rebirth now.
I have to say that, regardless of genre or platform, Final Fantasy XVI is comfortably my favourite game of the year. With standout combat, glorious music and – best of all – ludicrously bombastic boss battles, it really took me by surprise and ended up blowing me away. It’s such an amazing game, whether it’s considered a genuine RPG or not, I’m just glad to see it pick up the Gold Trophy here!
As for Baldur’s Gate 3, I haven’t yet played it, but I’m hoping to pick it up in the new year.
Merry Christmas everyone! Whatever you’re doing, I hope you have a wonderful day. We’re about to head off to my brothers place for dinner and gaming with his family. Unfortunately, my eldest can’t make it because she has Covid and she’s got it bad. Won’t be the same without her. Having said that, I got Spider-Man 2 and Octopath Traveler II for Christmas, so I’m over the moon.
Next week will mark the 25th anniversary of my mum’s passing. And a month after that, it’ll be the same 25 years since my dad left us, too. It took me two decades to be able to enjoy Christmas again, but it’s a time for family, and I want to make the most of the beautiful people in my life. I have an amazing wife and two incredible daughters, but for far too long, I forgot how much good I have in my life.
Whether your family is big or small, I hope you get to spend time with them, love them, and appreciate them. Just never take them for granted.
Wishing everyone here a day of love, laughter and joy. And all the very best for 2024.

Was the Resident Evil 4 VR mode too late to make the cut? Interested to see where it would have landed here.
Re: Game of the Year: #5 - Final Fantasy 16
Was hoping this might feature higher, but that’s okay. Final Fantasy XVI is easily my personal Game of the Year and I can’t wait to go back to New Game+ when the second DLC releases in the spring.
In fact, this got me into Final Fantasy as a series. After XVI, I went straight to VII Remake, and I even picked up Crisis Core FFVII Reunion, too. Can’t wait for Rebirth now.
Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5, PS4 RPG of 2023
I have to say that, regardless of genre or platform, Final Fantasy XVI is comfortably my favourite game of the year.
Re: We Wish You a Merry Christmas
