For the record this is not in any way part of the Arkhamverse and is a new take on all the characters despite the visuals & combat being similar. Rocksteady’s Suicide Squid game is set in-univere
Dark Souls 2 was hard to the point it felt unfair. Elden Ring is far from this. None of the Fromsoft games Miyazaki has been involved with have been “too hard” I’d say, sure certain bosses were more frustrating a challenge than others (Ornstein & Smough for ex.) but by that point I was so invested in the game that it felt like a delicate dance putting all i’d learned about combat up to that point to good use.
I think newcomers have this preconceived notion that From games are unfair or throw you to the wolves when early on by design it’s actually quite forgiving the enemies you face and a lot of the triumph & failure is on the player for letting their guard down or pushing just a little bit more for extra souls/runes that may or may not pay off.
An easy mode just doesn’t fundamentally work with Fromsoft games and veterans of the series will understand.
I’m not paying more for limited trials, classics & leftover scraps. Offer up a good catalogue of PS5 games & some bigger releases Day 1 like Gamepass or piss off
I dunno, will probably wait for a Fextralife build guide for a STR/Faith build and follow it to a tee. I know the games are all about freedom in builds/weapons but i’ve always felt lost in Fromsoft games without knowing the order to allocate points or which item to focus on & upgrade.
I just hope the base maps don’t suck this time around. MW2019 looked & played incredible + had a great Campaign but the dull, oversized, and poorly designed MP maps (i.e. Piccadilly, Azhar Cave, the bridge map) killed my interest fast
This will be a “wait for sale” for me if the reviews turn out good. I hope i’m wrong but I have a bad feeling about this game & get the sense that it may be a case of more style over substance
Optimistic take and I hope to be wrong as a longtime fan of the series, but if I were to bet i’d say they’ll do little to utilize the Dualsense’s capabilities & this year will be a case of style over substance as the switch to a new engine/console usually entails that for sports games.
It feels like somewhere along the way they stopped coming up with simple ideas for new mini-games and just decided to throw in a bunch of lasers, anti-gravity, blowing fans, switches, three mechanical rhinos etc.
What i’m trying to say is I understand there’s only so much ideas they can do with a game like this, but sometimes bigger isn’t always better and it’s a reason why most of the launch mini-games are still enjoyable while I despise some of the newer ones
Everyone jokes when we get an update improving system performance…but you just know Sony is brewing up a pretty substantial update that’ll drop one of these days.
Just remember the PS4 underwent some pretty significant changes/additions 1-2 years following release from a UI overhaul to Share Play & even HDR. Things that are now standard on PS5 since launch, so who knows what they’ll improve next.
It’s ok to like a particular game/developer while at the same time disliking the decisions of execs. surrounding PS4/PS5 upgrades and/or additional paid content. It’s a complex discussion
From a graphical & performance standpoint it is jaw dropping & the way they are doing RT + Performance is really setting a standard.
From a longtime fan of the series though, I give it a solid 8/10. The story felt a little on the short side and seemed more Pixar-esque like the 2016 movie tie-in (as opposed to A Crack in Time/Nexus), there was a limited amount of planets (some even revisited), no skill points, no Insmoniac Museum, lack of real challenge in the battleplex (i.e. survive 100 rounds), no races, flying sections were “meh” considering we could fly across space prior. Just minor nitpicks but I still thoroughly enjoyed Rift Apart & am happy we still have the series today
I agree with the statement somewhat, I think it also relies heavily on devs being willing to take risks though.
I love Insomniac Games as much as everyone else and have been a fan of theirs since Spyro, but I can also admit that R&C has sort of lost its “edge” in recent years and they continued to play things safe with Rift Apart still using an orchestral score, still featuring Dr Nefarious & having the plot largely play out like a Pixar film. Compare it to the early days of R&C with it’s electronic soundtrack, subtle adult humour and sarcastic but still good willed Ratchet it’s like night & day.
This is just one small example but I hope devs. continue to make new IP’s and dont fall into doing just what will sell well or show off the Dualsense. It’s certainly an unpopular opinion that I just shared and it’s not going to ruin the gaming industry or produce bad products by any means but I feel that’s we get the most creative output
Not to knock anyone excited for this, but I personally don’t find WW2 shooters that appealing when it comes to the limited weaponry/customization.
This year I’m really leaning towards BF 2042 and it’ll take something special for CoD to win me back based on the rumours so far, I guess I just don’t want to see yet another year of Warzone clearly being the focus at the cost of the main game’s quality (i.e. lack of base maps, DLC, having to do challenges in Warzone for MP)
I seem to be in the minority here but I’m not really bothered, I believe games should be accessible to as wide an audience as possible so if more people have the opportunity to play these titles next year then that’s good IMO. Just because they aren't designed 100% with PS5 in mind doesn’t mean it’ll be worse.
I do agree Sony could’ve done a better job with their marketing/messaging up to now, but I’ve been satisfied with my PS5 so far and the QoL things it brings like faster loading, quieter fans, new UI and can see the potential for the future with games like Astros, Demons Souls & Returnal. With the current supply shortage i’m actually glad my PS4 friends have access to titles like Miles Morales and it’s easy to still voice chat & share play with them
@OmegaStriver I’m sorry but if you think the PS5 should’ve been named PS4 Pro 2 then I can’t possibly imagine what internal specs. would meet your standards for a console in 2021 and the price tag that would be attached. It’s an upgrade in every sense of the word and that’s not even mentioning the Dualsense.
Yes exclusive games are nice, but many have come to expect that it’ll take some time for the big hitters to start releasing steadily based on past console cycles and most early adopters just want to future proof for the time being while enjoying QoL things like faster load times, quieter fan, stable framerates etc. Personally, between Astros Playroom, Demons Souls, Returnal & soon R&C i’m more than happy with the games so far since launch and actually glad lots of AAA titles are still going to PS4 so more people can enjoy them given all the supply issues
All I see Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg & an easy payday for them. The charm of the Uncharted games was getting to know the characters and following them on adventures, it felt Indiana Jones-esque but did enough to bring a fresh spin on things
This is an aspect where a lot of video game movies miss the mark, they assume celebrity status = more hype for the leads while diluting the story and nuance of the games
I would love a classic PS1 inspired color scheme…but hopefully also some assurance from Sony that the potential for stick drift has been fixed, had to send one back already for replacement!
Wait for sale for me personally, nothing against Returnal & actually really looking forward to it but Rogue-likes are just not my cup of tea when it comes to paying full price
Characters swearing & challenging bosses aside...it was this scene where me & a buddy were laughing our asses off going “yep definitely not a kids game!!!” (despite looking like one).
Youth these days have “Balan Wonderland” to look forward to in the PS action/platformer genre...it’s just a shame they’ll never get to experience a game like The Precursors Legacy which despite not having the best graphics blew my mind when I was younger with it’s seamless areas & unique characters & then blew my mind again when I saw how different (& awesome) Jak 2 & 3 subsequently were!
@Kyevo8814 A paid DLC or expansion like Miles Morales is way better than a GaaS promising free content throughout its lifespan IMO.
The thing I hate about GaaS like Avengers is that the content/timetable/quality is never guaranteed or can change on a whim (see Anthem 2.0), then they pack it full of **** like multiple battlepasses and overpriced cosmetics while people defend or downplay it as being less scummy because it has “free content” and because of this it must be reasonable.
At least with MM you could read the reviews when it launches & decide if the price is warranted upfront, then with the additional costumes they threw in it’s just the cherry on top. With Marvels Avengers, the game is technically finished but nowhere near fully fleshed out (or doesn’t feel that way at least) today & it’ll probably go F2P eventually. Meanwhile its player base is just stuck in limbo until new content while they still find ways to throw in & market costumes.
Timed exclusives were cool to brag to my friends about back when I was 15 years old so I could reiterate why my PS3 was better than their Xbox 360...but “adult me” just sees exclusivity in the form of money (you’ll have to grab another console to play this) or time (you’ll have to wait half a year to play this) as BS, for both Sony & Microsoft alike. I understand why these deals exist but I also understand how anti-consumer & divisive they can potentially be.
I honestly could care less that Sony is allowing more PC ports (about time in my view) & I would care just the same if they allowed for games like Horizon, Last of Us, Spiderman etc. to be played on Xbox & some of their heavy hitters on Playstation. It wouldn’t be the end of the world
Am I the only one that sees right through the marketing BS in that statement? Such as “this gives players more time to engage with & enjoy each skill purchase.” Yeah i’m suuuure going to enjoy the extra 3-5 hours grind it takes to unlock skills on not just one character, but all them *facepalm
Here’s a lesson for the devs. if the game is currently uninstalled on my system/others may be on the fence about purchasing in time for their “big update” then don’t do dumb sh*t like this that garners bad publicity for the sake of greediness. Do they want me back or do they want their player base to dwindle & become the next Anthem? Because it sure sounds like the latter.
Reminder: This is just patent figures so calm down people, I doubt the final product will look like one of those flight joysticks from the early 2000’s. It’s the same case as the PS5 dev. kit versus what ended up being the final result
That translates to a base price of $90 here in Canada & it’s absurd IMO...sure you may point to inflation and say what’s the big deal the devs. gotta make money somehow (which in the case of NBA 2k is eyerolling), but bear in mind it’s not like I’m earning any more than I was before the price increase (in fact working less due to the circumstances).
It’s honestly enough to make me reconsider a game i’m on the fence about & simply wait for a sale, despite how much I may like a dev. or product I don’t think if they come out with these types of statements then they have my best interest in mind.
There’s just too many combat scenarios where you enter an empty room/open space with a bunch of neatly placed barricades in plain sight and you think “well that’s obviously another combat arena” & when you walk closer “surprise” it’s an ambush by some enemies. Rinse & repeat
Things got really stale by the end of the prologue for me. Especially when there’s other games like Destiny 2, Division, Borderlands etc. that do what this game is trying better.
@Divergent95 Hey not everyone’s going to like every game made so it’s cool! Which Fromsoft games have you played or tried out? You’re right DeS-DS2 certainly places more emphasis on slow, methodical combat where it’s mainly about drawing enemies out from groups and learning their attack patterns. Although Bloodborne & DS3 are considerably more fast paced and have omni-directional rolling so things feel less clunky
In terms of story, they do take a more unconventional approach where there’s almost no cutscenes/music by design and lore is exploratory versus expository and it’s certainly debatable whether this enhances the experience or not (kinda like the film as a form of art or entertainment debate). I can’t speak for others but I find Dark Souls 1 to be a masterclass in world design and this is the main factor that drew me into the world...then once I beat my first playthrough it became almost therapeutic in the sense that while it’s just you, alone wandering around a seemingly desolate world I knew I could handle any challenge the game threw my way.
You know what would make me truly excited? A surprise new Jak & Daxter, Spyro, Sly Cooper or Uncharted announcement.
I find it hard to get hyped up nowadays with all the leaks going around constantly and by these manufactured State of Plays or game showcases that usually just contain flashy trailers or “in-engine” gameplay reels
The base price of $90 here in Canada is still absurd IMO...sure you may point to inflation and say what’s the big deal the devs. gotta make money, but it’s not like I’m earning any more than I was before the price increase (in fact working less due to the circumstances). It’s honestly enough to make me reconsider a game like this i’m on the fence about & simply wait for a sale, despite how much trust I have in the dev. or product.
Also, I don’t really buy the argument that 3d audio, fast load times & haptic feedback warrant the price and hope more devs. don’t use that as justification. It’s not like they revolutionized the features Sony allowed for in their new console
Division 2 also has settings for brightness, contrast, sharpness & HDR Brightness...all separate and all without any sort of visual indicator/example within a box to see how the settings are impacted, like c’mon this is just basic stuff
It’s nothing to write home about tbh, free & mindless fun for an hour or two. Hard to get enthused when it feels like we’re just the early adopters for when the game eventually gets more content who knows how long down the line.
The thing that pisses me off about this game more than anything else though is the fact they were going to charge full price for it at first. They had to be aware there isn’t enough content here to warrant it
I say let Anthem die now as a case study to others on how to not do the GaaS model just for the sake of it. It’s akin to ripping the band-aid off versus slowly prolonging things and taking further L’s
I managed to grab a PS5 at launch, not to knock the pessimists who say “meh it’s not that much of an upgrade or why bother when there’s hardly any games?” but I for one can live with not having my Playstation periodically sound like a jet engine whilst playing games & having load times be so minimal that they’ve become an afterthought. Also once you experience the haptics and how they can be used in a game like Demon’s Souls Remake you’ll never want to go back to rumble. In short it’s well worth the wait so don’t get your hopes down!
The best thing I can say about the current state of PS5 & it’s UI is that there’s been no major flaws or minor daily annoyances like i’ve experienced in the past and things will only get better when more games/updates come out
This game kinda reminds me of Star Wars: The Old Republic (mmo)...The premise was super promising but I came to realize I just don’t really enjoy being what felt like some random side character sharing the story with tons of other players in a game filled with progression-gating, meandering side activities & monetization...
Now ideally if you promised me a Harry Potter game that was a mix of Skyrim’s freedom/progression, with Witcher 3 or KOTOR’S maturity/nuance (this game is already looking a tad bit cartoony) & intuitive/challenging combat then i’d be 100% onboard, but alas it’s a pipe dream

Re: The Division Developer Just Getting Started on Star Wars Project
It’s bound to have 7 different editions, a 3 year long road map, in-game store, RPG-lite elements, level-gating, XP boosters etc.
Re: Somehow, The Division 2's PS5 Patch Loses Visual Features from PS4 Pro
Division 2 also has settings for brightness, contrast, sharpness & HDR Brightness...all separate and all without any sort of visual indicator/example within a box to see how the settings are impacted, like c’mon this is just basic stuff
Re: Poll: What Do You Think of Destruction AllStars?
It’s nothing to write home about tbh, free & mindless fun for an hour or two. Hard to get enthused when it feels like we’re just the early adopters for when the game eventually gets more content who knows how long down the line.
The thing that pisses me off about this game more than anything else though is the fact they were going to charge full price for it at first. They had to be aware there isn’t enough content here to warrant it
Re: Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest Looks Poised for a Second Run
Glad this news did not come on a minutes notice. Like a certain *ahem console launch
Re: Rumour: EA Will Decide If ANTHEM Lives or Dies This Week
I say let Anthem die now as a case study to others on how to not do the GaaS model just for the sake of it. It’s akin to ripping the band-aid off versus slowly prolonging things and taking further L’s
Re: Warner Bros Under Fire for Patenting Nemesis System
WB needs to give their heads a shake. What a supremely idiotic move that I hope doesn’t set a precedent. Backlash well deserved in this case
Re: Hands On: Balan Wonderworld Is an Unusual PS5, PS4 Platformer That Doesn't Style It Out
Someone should just make another Jak & Daxter or Sly Cooper for PS5 already...this game looks unappealing & weird
Re: Poll: Do You Have a PS5?
I managed to grab a PS5 at launch, not to knock the pessimists who say “meh it’s not that much of an upgrade or why bother when there’s hardly any games?” but I for one can live with not having my Playstation periodically sound like a jet engine whilst playing games & having load times be so minimal that they’ve become an afterthought. Also once you experience the haptics and how they can be used in a game like Demon’s Souls Remake you’ll never want to go back to rumble. In short it’s well worth the wait so don’t get your hopes down!
The best thing I can say about the current state of PS5 & it’s UI is that there’s been no major flaws or minor daily annoyances like i’ve experienced in the past and things will only get better when more games/updates come out
Re: Harry Potter Fans Share Their Hopes and Dreams for Hogwarts Legacy
