This is just me being pedantic but, that's not the proper Atari logo. It's the one that Infogrames used many years ago.

These are huge sales for a series that's perceived as the ginger step-child of PlayStation's first party line up.

I was never able to get into the first game but might try and give it another go.

PlayStation will absolutely have a massive future in the games industry. But I'm fairly sure it will eventually be as an app that you can subscribe to and buy from. In the same way that you can stream or buy on Prime. There will be an app for Xbox, Nintendo etc.

However, if they ever take away the ability to "own" a game (like Netflix) then that will be the time I quit modern gaming and play my PS3 and Sega Saturn until I die.

@Reyzore That's the point. You won't need to buy a PlayStation (or any own brand console) to play PlayStation games. You'll still have the games but Sony won't need to spend billions on R&D, manufacturing, shipping, marketing etc.

@LogicStrikesAgain I don't think PlayStation as a brand will die within my lifetime and beyond. What I do think will die is the bespoke hardware model we currently have. The idea of people spending hundreds, if not thousands, of their hard earned $€£ on one machine that only plays certain games in 2040 seems ludicrous to me. That's why I don't believe there will ever be a PS7.

So many of the comments here are very strange to me. It seems they love other people not having things rather than actually having those things themselves. Or they love the console itself rather than the games.

The console is merely a delivery system to play amazing PlayStation games.

The games industry is actually way behind other forms of media and art.

Imagine if your favourite film could only be played on certain Blu-ray players, TVs or tablets. Or if your favourite album would only play on certain phones? It's a ridiculous thought but one that exists right now in the highest grossing form of media in the world.

@johnedwin It will happen and Sony will make a lot of money from it.

There are so many people here struggling to cope or pretending they've loved the idea of Sony being multiplatform all along. If you still get to play the PlayStation games you love, why does it matter?

I also think that seeing a 4 year old Xbox game become the best selling game of the year on PlayStation forced the change in strategy.

This is brilliant news for everyone. I've said it many times before but I don't believe there will be bespoke consoles after the PS6 and next Xbox.

We will all have a PC in a box under our TVs and will be able to access any games we want. What's not to love about that?

Sony have finally realised that software is king and selling that for a huge profit in as many places as possible makes far more sense than trying restrict it to one place.

@Bsb56 I managed to get 2 of those for my PS4. They were an absolutely brilliant piece of kit for games that needed L3/R3. They came out so late in the PS4's life that I assumed it was a sign of things to come with the standard PS5 pad. Unfortunately not.

I really hate using L3/R3 buttons and I really wish Sony had added back buttons to the standard DualSense.

I still want folders. ☹️

Also, does anyone else think the PS5 home screen is an absolute mess right now? Maybe I'm misremembering after a gap between owning a PS5 but almost two thirds of the screen is taken up with crap I don't want to see.

I'm all for things like this. I have a huge collection of hardback video game books and I adore them.

@dskatter No. Because there was an actual and obvious generational leap between the PS2 and PS3.

Inflating game sales by selling copies of the game cheaper than the in-game currency is a genius masterstroke by R*.

This would be a relatively quick win for Sony to improve the PS5 library. I love the Infamous series.

Just make it an official model already rather than limited edition. It's beautiful and people want to buy it for its actual price rather than the scalped cost.

Although a remake of 5 would really help me not spend £200+ on the DS version.

The Forza Horizon series is incredible and it's great to see more people playing it. It's a shame that PlayStation only gamers won't ever get to play the previous 4.

@Deljo I agree wholeheartedly. Gaming used to be so much better. I started playing videogames in the 80s and things used to be fun. No 5 year plus development cycles. A new generation actually displayed a big improvement. Games releasing complete. Obviously I realise I sound like an old man shouting at clouds but things were better.

Any remakes of Dragon Quest games are okay in my book.

I'd like to get this game if it allowed you to scan and use the faces of the people I've actually killed. Otherwise it's kind of pointless.

Also, is it on Quest?

This article is making me want a PS5 remaster collection of the Wipeout games.

The Xbox store tends to be better at filtering out this kind of crap. I've no idea how this made it.

This is by far my favourite GTA game. I played it on Xbox a few weeks ago but would love a native current gen port.

But why on Earth are you giving a digital copy of the game with a disc system??? That's really poor Sony.

@nomither6 So it really was an unnecessary d**k move by Sony. I vaguely remember transferring data from my PS4 to the PS4 Pro. Blocking hackers/modders isn't a good enough reason to not be able to do it on PS5.

@nomither6 I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure you could transfer save data to an external device on PS4 too.

@nomither6 Save data is just one of those things you should never have to pay for. The fact I wasn't even able to transfer my save data to a USB stick is ridiculous.

@IntrepidWombat Exactly this. It has such a great story and setting you'd think it would have had lots of games over the years.

@nomither6 I'm not much of an online gamer so that part doesn't massively bother me. The fact that cloud saves are tied behind a subscription really does. I had to sell my original model PS5 a few months ago when I lost my job and lost hours and hours of saves.

As it stands it's a pretty poor service in my opinion. It holds no value for me at this point and Sony would have to do a hell of a lot to convince me to resubscribe.

I assume this site will be renamed Push X at some point given how often we have articles about Xbox. Obviously only articles that can frame Xbox as the bad guy though.

Bizarrely, this was one of the very few Japanese Xbox 360 exclusive games at launch. I think it took a couple of years to release on PS3.

Eventually all current platform makers will be third party anyway. There won't always be a need for bespoke hardware from each and that's a good thing.

Imagine a scenario where you can buy and play any games you want without having to own various different systems. All with a PC in a box under your TV.

That should be everyone's dream.

I always think games of this type should be on as many platforms as physically possible.
