@get2sammyb I think they coped fine with the variety, volume and quality during the PS3 generation. Something that can't be said for the PS5 generation.
@zebric21 Okay. Again, this is a genuine question. Why do you believe that Sony would want to carry on making bespoke hardware (aka PlayStation consoles) after the PS6?
@GamingGod I'm saying that Sony will leave the console business before Nintendo because they're smarter than Nintendo. I still believe that bespoke hardware will be irrelevant after PS6. Microsoft will go there first and then Sony will follow when they realise how much more money they could make without spending billions on hardware.
Nintendo are always slower to adopt gaming trends and they (their shareholders) will move towards that future at a snail's pace but eventually will get there.
@GamingGod This comment is the absolute definition of what's wrong with the games industry and why it will always be seen as a lesser form of art compared to film or music. Well done "Bro".
1. I don't actually come across as snide and superior. I am fortunate enough to be able to own multiple systems. Your opinion isn't a fact.
2. Yes Xbox will absolutely leave the console market first. PlayStation will be a close second. Nintendo will be last (as they usually are) to understand where the industry is heading.
3. I couldn't give a flying **** about "putting down" PlayStation. As is clear from all of my previous posts. I love PlayStation games.
4. The only reason Sony have any games is because they acquired the developer or publisher. Sony made the PlayStation back in 1994 and had no internal studios so they bought them. But because Microsoft bought a publisher (many years ago btw) that doesn't count in your eyes. Sony also spent billions on Bungie.
If you are so interested in my comment history then I suggest you stop picking and choosing things that you think gives you the upper hand.
I've been posting here since 2008. I would love for you to read all of my 3500+ comments. But you won't. You'll pick and choose the ones that you care about and then try to attack me. That says far more about you.
@HonestHick All the best to you and yours and I hope you had a lovely Christmas and New Year too. I agree that I'm Marvelled out too. I've seen nothing of Blade but I'm already kind of bored of the idea of it.
I love my PlayStation but good god, the DualSense is a shockingly uncomfortable controller. Awful shape, unnecessary features and shocking battery.
@UltimateOtaku91 If those figures are correct it makes it even more ridiculous that Sony didn't support the Vita properly. The PSP was a smash hit in Japan and they missed a trick in not supporting the Vita in the same way.
Let's not forget, Monster Hunter became a huge hit on PSP but made the switch (no pun intended) to Nintendo consoles after the PSP. Nintendo didn't sign any exclusivity deals. Capcom just followed the money. It's down to each hardware manufacturer to make their platform the most desirable to make money on.
Also, if making handhelds is such a guarantee of success in Japan, why was there no follow up to the Vita? Why didn't Sony double down and make another handheld to claim that obvious market?
@PuppetMaster First of all, games being digital isn't a deal-breaker for me. Most of the world now only buys their games digitally. Is that what I wanted? No. Have I made my peace with it? Yes.
Secondly, Astro's Playroom is a great showcase/demo but not a reason to buy a PS5. I completely agree that Nintendo should have definitely made the boring Welcome Tour a freebie. How they dare to charge for it baffles me (but I suspect they've become complacent after the Switch 1 success).
Sony's AAA games do receive great discounts after launch and this has always been a major frustration for me when buying Nintendo games. I paid £38 for Zelda Echoes of Wisdom the other day (well after release). The only thing I would say to counter that is that Nintendo games tend to hold a much higher value if you're ever selling them on. I suppose that's the trade off.
I genuinely don't think Sony have done anything particularly well this generation for me, the gamer. Yes they've made better profits than ever but that doesn't affect me.
Their first party output has been less than any other generation. They've spent billions chasing live service games which has taken money and time away from the games I think most PlayStation fans want to play. They've overcharged for hardware (as have Microsoft) and yet the differences between PS4 and PS5 has basically been the SSD. Most players I know turn off the "amazing" adaptive triggers and controller speaker. The battery life on the DualSense is still terrible. I paid £530 for a PSVR2 and have had 1 first party game.
PS+ is a terrible deal for someone like me because if I like a game, I'll buy it. I don't want to wait for access it 2 years down the line with a subscription fee.
They even took away free cloud saves from me which meant when I had to sell my OG PS5 because I lost my job, I lost all of the progress I'd made across 3 years of gaming.
@Brundleflies21 VII should have had a PSVR2 port a long time ago. It was such a no-brainer considering the flat game was re-released for PS5. I double dipped and bought it for PS5 and would have paid even more for a paid VR upgrade.
@Pat84 I would also love to see the Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles make the switch to PSVR2. Those games being stuck on Wii and PS3 still annoys me.
@themightyant Vita vs 3DS was absolutely a fair fight. The 3DS succeeded because Nintendo supported it and third parties flooded towards it on the back of that success. The Vita failed because Sony didn't support it and third parties avoided it on the back of that failure.
Sony had a massive hit with the PSP and then dropped the ball with the Vita. Microsoft dropped the ball when going from Xbox 360 to Xbox One. Nintendo dropped the ball when going from Wii to Wii U.
All fell for different reasons but the management of those consoles didn't work because of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. They were all to blame.
Also, the Switch IS a TV console to the majority of Japanese gamers.
Personally, I never use my Switch in handheld mode but that's a different matter.
@themightyant I also compared PS Vita to 3DS. One sold 5 times more than the other.
Also, I've just checked, in Japan 20% of players play only in docked mode. 30% of players play only in handheld mode. 50% of players state they play handheld and docked equally. So that means that 70% of Switch players use it as a "TV console" as you call it.
@LogicStrikesAgain Me owning multiple PlayStation consoles and my favourite game series ever being Uncharted surely demonstrates I have a passion for PlayStation games. But surely I'm also allowed to believe that Sony are coasting this generation and not giving me value for money without being labelled and Xbox or Nintendo fanboy.
Every time I say a single negative thing about the way Sony is doing things I get accused of bias because it doesn't fit someone else's narrative of "PlayStation is the best and Sony can do no wrong!"
@PuppetMaster I have said several times in this thread that I want Sony to do far better and succeed. I'm gutted about the way they dropped the Vita like a stone and even more gutted the way that they never gave the PSVR2 any kind of support at all.
I have also said in many times in other threads that my favourite series of all time on any system is Uncharted.
Why can't I be more annoyed by what Sony currently does than other platform holders without being called a fanboy?
@Naughtyottsel92 I mention owning PlayStation consoles because I have no allegiance to one platform over another. You however seem totally focussed towards PlayStation. It genuinely seems you have no objectivity. I'm not trying to start a fight with anyone.
@GamingGod The entire theme of the article was about how PlayStation is doing better in weekly sales specifically against Nintendo in Japan. Xbox have done so poorly in Japan that it shouldn't even need to be mentioned. But rather than anyone acknowledging that Sony need to do far better, people ignored that, put their fingers in their ears and aimed for the lowest hanging fruit in the tree.
You also implied that Japanese gaming tastes mean that if Sony released a handheld then it would start to fix their problems. When the fact is that it failed as a tactic in the past.
@Naughtyottsel92 People like me? A person who has owned every PlayStation console including handhelds and both VR headsets? A person like me who has bought around 1500 games across all PlayStation consoles?
Or do you mean a person like me who owns all 3 systems and doesn't blindly follow everything Sony does with a smile? Someone who isn't tied to one platform and speaks objectively? Someone who wants Sony to improve because they believe that the PS5 generation is the most complacent and lazy Sony have ever produced?
@Naughtyottsel92 My point was that Xbox being absolutely awful is Japan doesn't even need to be mentioned. It's blindingly obvious. But people like yourself won't confront how poorly PlayStation is doing against Nintendo. And that was pretty much the theme of the article.
@Max_the_German I completely agree. I want Sony to do well but the PS5 generation has been my least favourite by far. Sony have got to the stage where they can coast by with minimal effort towards their fans. It's the reason my PS3 is currently hooked up to my TV and my PS5 hasn't been switched on in months.
@GamingGod Shouldn't you be more concerned about how badly PlayStation is doing against Nintendo rather than mocking Xbox (who have never had a hope in hell in Japan)?
@Rich33 I have already stated that Sony will have a PS6. I don't believe there will be another PlayStation after that. I don't believe there will be another Xbox after the next Xbox. The Steam Machine is a thing. I'm not promoting it.
And for the record, I want Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all to stop making their own hardware. I want to buy one "system" that easily plugs into my TV and is able to play any games I want. I want Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo to stop spending billions on hardware and focus that money on games.
@Rich33 I own almost all of Sony's plastic boxes thanks. My blue PS3 Slim, blue PSP and my blue PS Vita are some of my favourite consoles ever. My PSVR and PSVR2 are precious to me. I'm still gutted I sold my white PS4 Pro to then buy a black PS4 Pro. I sold my OG PS5 when I lost my job and was thankfully able to buy a PS5 Slim when I got a new job.
Please don't question my PlayStation credentials just because you don't agree with me.
@UltimateOtaku91 I agree. Bespoke hardware disappearing will mean that Sony and Microsoft will need to actually offer something better from their storefronts to maintain loyalty.
@Rich33 Steam Machine will be able to access multiple storefronts. The next Xbox will be able to access multiple storefronts. That means those storefronts will need to compete on price or user experience.
As AI and the cloud become a bigger focus, a box under your TV won't be an expensive proposition.
@Rich33 If you can only buy PlayStation games through a Sony app then you will buy them through Sony. If you love Sony's ecosystem then you will buy third party games through Sony.
@UltimateOtaku91 PlayStation fans are ridiculously loyal. They will buy their games via PlayStation store because they prefer the ecosystem. Sony will need to incentivise their fans to stay with them. And that will be better for all gamers.
@ButterySmooth30FPS I'm not saying they will ditch their platform! I'm saying that the way you access their games won't be tied to a specific piece of hardware! The PlayStation store will be an app and Sony will make just as much money as they currently do without the cost of making hardware.
@Rich33 I can't explain myself any more clearly. Whatever PC in a box you will have underneath your TV will be able to access any storefront you want. So if you want to solely buy multi-platform games via the PlayStation store then you can. Sony will still get their 30%. If you prefer to only subscribe to PSN then you can. It will be an app on a generic device but Sony won't need to spend billions on hardware.

It's quite bizarre that Rave Racer never received a single home console port.
Re: Sony Finally Confirms Horizon Co-Op Game, Horizon Hunters Gathering for PS5, PC
@get2sammyb I think they coped fine with the variety, volume and quality during the PS3 generation. Something that can't be said for the PS5 generation.
Re: Sony Finally Confirms Horizon Co-Op Game, Horizon Hunters Gathering for PS5, PC
It looks like a generic mish mash of many other games set loosely in the Horizon world. Definitely not for me.
Re: Prince of Persia Remake and 5 Other Games Cancelled by Ubisoft
This is a complete shambles by Ubisoft. I was really looking forward the the PoP remake. I guess I'll have to stick to the original.
Re: Ubisoft All-Timers Far Cry 3, Blood Dragon Are Getting 60fps Updates on PS5, with More to Follow
A completely unexpected and unnecessary (from Ubisoft's perspective) move but one that is just for us gamers. Lovely to see them do this.

@Dange These were my thoughts exactly! 😂

Modern compilations of Master System, Game Gear, Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast games would be such an easy way for Sega to make tons of money.

@GamingGod They did. They've made AI that will play for and get you through the difficult parts of a game. The whole idea is ridiculous.

Re: Japanese PS5 Sales Continue to Improve Following Launch of Cheaper Model
@GamingGod The Vita (one of my favourite consoles ever btw) sold around 5 million systems in Japan compared to the 3DS selling 25 million.
Why didn't the Japanese taste for handhelds help the Vita do better than selling 5 times less than the competition?
Re: Japanese PS5 Sales Continue to Improve Following Launch of Cheaper Model
