Why is it surprising that sales would come from Xbox?

Quite a pathetic comment considering that most third party games tended to sell better on Xbox 360 and the fact that the only way to play it on current gen consoles is on Xbox.

I played this again last year on Xbox. Fantastic game.

I'm really intrigued to see this genre of frog-type games we've all been oblivious to.

It's a completely free upgrade for anyone who owns Gears of War Ultimate. Which can be bought either physically or digitally for next to nothing. Or it can be played on Game Pass as part of the subscription.

And if you already subscribe to Game Pass, it's free.

@PlatinumMikey It's all about the ecosystem. Xbox hardware still has sold millions. Those people are tied to Xbox.

PlayStation gamers who buy Xbox games are tied to Xbox moving forward.

Nintendo gamers who buy Xbox games are tied to Xbox moving forward.

@PlatinumMikey Microsoft has always been a software company. The entire hardware business is unprofitable. Sony would love to stop selling PlayStation consoles yet keep people buying their games.

Hardware costs billions in R&D, manufacturing, packaging and shipping. The whole point is to lock you in to their ecosystem. That's why I believe Microsoft's strategy is the best, long term.

I genuinely believe that bespoke console hardware will be irrelevant after PS6/Next Xbox. I believe that we will have generic PCs in a box under our TVs and we'll be able to buy or stream PlayStation games and Xbox games via those stores.

What Microsoft is doing now is building a loyal audience amongst people who would never actually buy an Xbox.

From that point onwards, they're customers. Customers who are very likely to keep buying.

Can new players play all of the games? No.

That's because those players have already missed the boat.

That's why being an Xbox gamer has been great for me over the years.

I like my PS5 and appreciate people buying games I've owned for years so that get more first party Xbox titles.

None of us really own any games anymore and we haven't since the PS3/360 generation. None of that is specific to Microsoft at all.

@NishimuraX Yes of course. Any games that have licensing will be delisted at some point. I own the games. I can play them whenever I want on my Xbox. Millions of other players can do the same on their Xbox.

I actually am hopeful of Sunset Overdrive getting remade for PS5 and Series X. Surely there's a way to do that now?

For everyone saying "There's no reason to own an Xbox", I say that PlayStation gamers are being drip fed leftovers for lots of money.

Forza Horizon 5 is on PS5. But Forza Horizon 1-4 will never be. If you actually like that franchise, the only way to play them all is on Xbox.

I will get a free upgrade to Gears of War on my Xbox, rather than paying £40 to play it on my PS5. And I'll be able to play the rest of the entire franchise.

@PegasusActual93 Rare Replay would sell absolute bucketloads on PlayStation and Switch. A really easy way for Xbox to print money. Especially now that GoldenEye is included.

@theSpectre No. Because TLOU has been remade for the same platform several times. This is the first time Gears of War will be on PlayStation.

@get2sammyb It will be over a year since Sony have released a first party exclusive when Ghost of Yotei launches. How is that supporting their own hardware?

I won't even mention PSVR2 because that just upsets me.

This strategy makes perfect sense when consoles are no longer a thing.

PlayStation only gamers will now be invested in Xbox IP and the only way to play in future will be to buy or subscribe directly from Microsoft.

This is another very pointless article. Of course people paying full price for a game are more likely to play more and get their money's worth.

And this site continually ignores the fact that people who have Game Pass still buy games. Often at a discount VS non-subscribers.

I, and many other people I know, use Game Pass as a demo system. Find a game I like and then buy it afterwards.

If you've played the original, you've played the PS5 version. Only that version actually has less content.

@ATaco I have a fantastic collection of physical retro games but am more and more tempted myself to start emulating too.

Regardless of anyone's loyalty to any particular system or game series, what's happening is horrible and only makes the gaming landscape worse for all of us.

I think I may retire from modern gaming to focus on my retro collection a generation earlier than I'd hoped. ☹️

The price of the Pro is surely set to increase now.

Call me negative but this really isn't one of the best games of the generation in my opinion. Not even close.

It's amazing how often this site now talks about Switch game prices compared to PS5 but refuses to talk about the cost of PS5 games compared to Game Pass.

Game Pass releases in the last couple of months have easily justified the entire year subscription cost.

9 out of 10 for me. Great game.

Unless this leads to a PS5 collection, this is a really poor move by Sony.
