Re: The Last of Us Complete Out Today at $99.99 on PS5, Physical Collector's Edition Drops in July

SMJ

@ChrisDeku I didn't say any developers were working on this. If there were, we would probably be talking even longer for the next first party release.

I'm pointing out that the entire thing is a waste of time when we haven't had a first party exclusive since Astro Bot in September. When will we next be treated to a new one?

I'm also pointing out that this release is another shining example of Sony being pretty poor this gen.

Re: PS Plus Price Increases Confirmed for 15 Countries by Sony

SMJ

@Majin_Deicide Xbox charged for online play for the original Xbox and 360. Sony didn't charge for online play in either of those 2 generations. They decided to start charging for online play with the PS4.

Sony's decision had nothing to do with Xbox. They could have continued to offer free online play as they had done with the previous generations. But they didn't.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on Potential $80 PS5 Games?

SMJ

This seems like Nintendo forcing people towards digital. From the ugly cover design (It may grow on me. PS5 cover design has.) to the Game-Key, allowing third parties to send us a cartridge with nothing on.

It isn't a good look for them and I don't think a lot of these decisions would have been made under Iwata San.

Re: Sony Licenses Everybody's Golf to Bandai Namco, Coming to PS5

SMJ

@GymratAmarillo I really didn't see any point in Sony releasing another handheld. They barely have the capacity to make enough games for PS5 let alone another system.

Their support for VR2 is nonexistent and they failed the Vita. If a new Sony handheld has to rely on third party software then people will just go for the Switch 2.

Re: Xbox Is Absolutely Dominating PS5's Pre-Order Charts

SMJ

@Sergo I agree. If there's a game I want to play, I'll play it eventually. I think it benefits both Microsoft and Sony that there's a huge void of PS Studio games currently and a ton of Xbox games heading to PS5 imminently.

I really think it will be interesting to see big first party games going head to head.

If Microsoft decide to release Halo or Gears against the next big Sony first party game, I think it will massively impact the initial pre-orders and initial sales for the Sony game.

I think those Xbox games will get more interest, money and time spent on them.

Re: Japan's Game Industry on Impressive Rise as Western AAA Development Struggles

SMJ

I also think that Western development costs these days almost require games to be on as many platforms as physically possible to avoid the risk of tanking entire teams and studios.

Further down the line I can see more PlayStation games going to rival platforms other than just Lego Horizons. I think Astro Bot on Switch 2 would be a great fit and a huge revenue boost for Sony.

Re: Japan's Game Industry on Impressive Rise as Western AAA Development Struggles

SMJ

I'm absolutely certain that someone will correct me if I'm wrong but, don't Sony only have 2 Japanese studios now? They're hardly fighting the good fight for Japanese gaming and I barely consider them a Japanese company anymore.

Nintendo have absolutely destroyed Sony with the Switch in Japan and I don't see any reason why this won't continue with Switch 2. We've gone weeks at times between any PlayStation games being in the Japanese top 10 and I believe (waiting for corrections) that Switch hardware has outsold the PS4 and PS5 hardware combined.

Capcom, Konami and Bandai Namco have either stuck with or returned to what makes them great. It's no wonder they've been successful given they use their IP well and don't spend hundreds of millions per game to do it.

Re: Xbox Is Absolutely Dominating PS5's Pre-Order Charts

SMJ

@Sergo It's a win for gamers definitely. But, by default, any time spent playing an Xbox game means less time spent playing a PS Studios game. Most people also have a finite income and this will also lead to decisions being made over which game to spend money on.

Re: Naughty Dog's Intergalactic Unlikely to Release on PS5 Until 2027

SMJ

This has been my least favourite PlayStation generation so far. The lack of games, pointless remasters and too many cross-gen releases have made it an expensive waste of time.

And yet PS5 sales are in fantastic shape. It's weird.

Hopefully Sony don't continue this way. Hopefully the massive recent drop in PS+ membership numbers will make them pay attention.

Re: Xbox Is Absolutely Dominating PS5's Pre-Order Charts

SMJ

@Sergo I kind of get what you're saying but, if these Xbox games sell as well as expected then surely that will mean that some players buying them will spend less on Sony first party games.

Sony will get 30% on these sales but potentially lose out on 100% of the revenue on games not sold.

Re: Xbox Is Absolutely Dominating PS5's Pre-Order Charts

SMJ

@Ken_Kaniff The Game Pass model automatically eats into purchases so why would this be news to anyone?

Personally, I try games on Game Pass and then buy them if I like them. I've made loads of purchases off the back of trying them this way.

I currently have around 800 Xbox games and there are so many I would never have even thought of buying if I hadn't played them on Game Pass first.

Re: Xbox Is Absolutely Dominating PS5's Pre-Order Charts

SMJ

It will be interesting to see how these things go when a Sony first party game is up for pre-order against an Xbox game.

Although I'm really not sure when the next Sony first party game is due for release.

This is a win-win for everyone though. More people playing these games. Microsoft and Sony both getting new revenue streams.

Re: Xbox Has 'a Lot More' PS5 Ports to Come in 2025

SMJ

And yet Sony haven't released a first party game for their own system since Astro Bot in September. ☹️

It will also be interesting to see what Sony's response will be if the next gen Xbox/Steam rumours rumours turn out to be true.
