Sounds about right, though I think they will continue working on driving the price down to around 350 at launch personally. Honestly though, this is such a ridiculous prediction. Who couldn't come up with this? Most of us here have been saying this for almost a year. Does a bloke named Pachter work there by chance? Lol
@SkanetWasTaken I know what it means and fully understand the labeling. My point was that many use it as a derogatory term and I'm not sure labeling it as such does anything to actually help the game.
Fallout 4 seems to do it right. Packed with a wild variety of things to do, and if you get tired of all the different types of combat (stealth, melee, guns blazing) you can do town building.
Can we stop using the moniker of Indy yet? If we are allowed to call walking simulators games why do we call games from smaller Devs Indys? It comes across as insinuating a lesser product, or expecting some lesser form of a game. Just group them by price(when they release)and that should sufficiently let you know what type of "game" you are getting.
Rime and Hyper Light are probably my most anticipated Indy darlings, especially since I don't consider NMS an Indy anymore as I am sure Sony has stepped up to help in a big way.
It can still be big without being bloated and ridiculous. I wish a developer would take the leap and create an open world game without fast travel. Instead make interesting things to see and do on the way to your main objectoves. Just my opinion.
Would love a sequel to this as it was probably my favorite fantasy rpg last gen along with skyrim. Just a great game and really deserves a nice remaster. Have to say tho if they haven't started a sequel yet are we looking at five years minimum before part 2? Way to long IMO.
Luckily I already have the camera and the ds4 was built with psvr in mind, so hopefully they will sell a version without all the extra bundling to help the price even more. I'm sure the Move controllers would be nice, but I think I prefer just using the ds4.
Sony has close to ten years experience in manufacturing headset viewers, this will undoubtedly give them a leg up on manufacturing costs, as well as being able to make money off the software and not just the hardware like oculus is forced to do. I believe turning a decent profit is part of what drove up the price for the oculus, since they won't make any money on software and can't afford to sell the oculus at a break even price and especially not a a small loss.
Perfect example of Sony's superiority in producing better hardware, look at the ps4 compared to the One. Slightly more powerful, half the size, and alot nicer on the eyes. They were able to achieve all that in a small compact form, and for cheaper! Granted the one had the kinect tacked on, but we all know how that worked out.
Actually I believe it was the first generation that DIDN'T sell at a loss, I assumed like you did early on. We have to remember that the tech was already well established, some would say out dated, when the ps4 launched. Plus, Sony is very adept at manufacturing tech hardware and bringing down costs, more so than MS or Ninty.
I'm sure the releases of popular Japanese titles like FF15, Persona, DQ11 will have an effect on overall sales, but the Japanese market has been trending this way for awhile. It is also understandable and similar to what I remember people predicting about the US console sales in years past. I think it eventually can recover, whether it will and whether the big Japanese developers are willing to wait it out is a complete unknown. Many will go the route of Konami and publish mostly mobile games, hopefully some of the big boys will stay put, and eventually be rewarded for releasing awesome AAA console experiences.
@get2sammyb I can see the xbox1 falling behind its predecessor, but it seems like the ps4 is on a similar path as the ps2. I think it will continue to outpace itself year over year for at least 2 more years before it shows down. The psvr may not sell a ridiculous amount of units but it will definitely help the image of the ps4 among the casual crowd as the cool, hip, and most powerful of the two consoles.
@FullbringIchigo I honestly think a good number of those gamers who owned a 360 last gen owned a ps2 before that. Alot of these people had already dipped into Sony's stable in the past, and it was easy to come back. I think the 360 launching a year earlier and at a much lower price point allowed them to steal alot of people who owned the ps2, now they are coming back.
@ShogunRok Honestly at this point it seems to have become a cultural phenomenon. Especially in the younger crowd it is the "it" piece of gaming tech and has become the "cool" console to own. Many might think this is irrelevant or stupid, but I know Sony has pushed it's marketing for this very outcome. It seems like the only thing that will slow it down now is extended amount of time and the release date of the ps5 lol.
Plus the ps4 has so much more style and looks the most consumer ready, something Sony is really good at. Example, look how good the ps4 looks compared to the xbox1!
Considering that Sony is pretty adept at creating hardware and making it consumer and price friendly I am going to be optimistic and say it releases at 399 or less (US). They have the big advantage of probably having near or over 40 million ps4 in the wild when it releases. Does anyone really think that there are 40 million PCs out there able to run Oculus? Sony also has the marketing edge because the ps4 has basically become a cultural phenomenon, that will help. I have high hopes but even if it flops I am all in just for the theater mode, lol.
I'm guessing around 350 for the psvr but I think it will I crude a game, some tech demos and probably move controllers/camera. They may also just sell the headset itself without the camera and controllers a little cheaper.
Meh...fallout 4 or bust IMO. I can agree that Witcher is a showcase of master class development, but the whole fantasy setting is a little burned out for me personally. Either way I can understand why it was voted GOTY but I have more fun playing fallout.
Yep, actually the way people reacted was COMPLETELY ridiculous. The same can be said when people get upset when Live goes down. "OMG I missed a few hours of gaming, the world is coming to an end!" What a bunch of entitled, selfish brats we have created. I worry for the future of this world when something as pathetic as this garners this much attention. Sad and pathetic.
Couldn't care less about folder? What exactly is the point? Soooo easy to go to the library and pick any game, if those couple extra button presses bother you then wow. All I want is external HD support, I already have a new HD but I want to be able to hook externals in as well. Everything else is total fluff and irrelevant.
Strange, mine never went down, I downloaded the free games, watched netflix, got in a round or two of Destiny and played some Fallout. I actually can't remember the last time the service was down, so I will def take a free day to make up for something I never lost in the first place, awesome!
Dragons Dogma Remaster or Dragons Dogma 2 would be great, it was right up there with Skyrim for me last gen. Would also like to see a new Medieval game, and a new Legacy of Kain game. Both were great fun back in the day. Now if you want to get really crazy, there are several Sega IPs I would kill for. A new mainline Phantasy Star (not the online versions), a new Panzer Dragoon, a new Dragon Force (don't think this is actually a Sega IP, but it released exclusively for the Saturn), and a new main line Shining Force. Hmm let's see what else now that you have me all nostalgic, a new Astal would be cool, a new Chrono game (more like cross than trigger IMHO), Rogue Galaxy 2, Legend of Dragoon, and Valkyria Chronicles. I always enjoy new IPs, but their are plenty of older IPS that really need some love. Never understood why companies seemingly imprison classic IPs to never do anything with them. At least give the rights to a new up and coming developer to see what they could do with these classics. I'm talking to you SEGA!
I have faith in Bioware. They were able to bring Dragon Age into the new Gen and it was a great game. I think this one will be great as well. No need to reinvent the wheel on this one, the core mechanics are so superb.
@Neolit Maybe the experience with previous screens have allowed them to iterate the tech enough to drive down the price? Sony is still pretty good with hardware IMO. Like I said I think it will be around the 300 range and maybe they take a hit on the profit to keep the price down to get it out in the wild in mass, who really knows. Either way I'm all in and I choose to remain optimistic, they have been doing really well this generation and hopefully that continues for all our sakes.
@mitcHELLspawn That's why psvr has a separate processing unit, which is pretty powerful, to go along with the ps4. It's not just the ps4 pushing the graphics bud, the processing box is about the size of a Nintendo wii.
Rumor has it that the price is not going to be overly expensive like some have predicted. Probably around the 300 range, which is still expensive for some, but not to bad if you consider some turtle beach headsets go for that. I have a feeling we will get price and launch information at CEO in a few days. Out of all the headsets I have tried, The psvr has been the most consumer ready for a LONG time. I think that has allowed them to innovate more and bring the price down. Either way I am all in for Morpheus!
Give it a try bud, and you will be sold on it. The atmosphere, the characters, the shootinc, the music, the weapon and character building and even the town creation are all tip notch. Fallout 4 is probably my favorite game of the new gen thus far.
Fallout for me. Love all the radio stations and I actually like the background music without the radio station on. Perfect haunting vibe for traversing the wasteland.
