Re: Larian CEO Swen Vincke Sticks His Foot in It Again, Thinks Game Reviewers Should Also Be Reviewed

Ristar24

If one of the biggest criticisms of reviews is often that they are too subjective, how subjective would a review of a reviewer be. I am sure I 'review' everything I read, but if I dont agree, I can usually see why not, and that's enough for me. I'm quite happy for my opinion on how enjoyable a game is to differ to others in general. I'd rather write my own game review than review a reviewer.

Also these days you can watch gameplay to get a good sense of a game, it's not like the old days when we paid for magazines with screen shots and a couple of opinions to go on.

Re: All Signs Point to Resident Evil: Code Veronica PS5 Remake in 2027

Ristar24

I appreciate that Capcom are remaking the games, but also making the originals still available to play on newer systems. Code Veronica wasn't my favourite to play, even when the game was new on Dreamcast. I'd still be interested to see how a remake would turn out. I don't find the tank controls dated though, I'm quite happy to play newer games in that style though it's evident RE is not going back to them.

Re: PS1 Ridge Racer Poised for PS5, PS4 via PS Plus Premium

Ristar24

Hmm, I respectfully disagree, the PS1 version is something quite unique and the arcade does not allow you to have that 3rd person view of the car. Also will be first time us people in PAL land have the game officially running in 60Hz (at 30fps, granted). Arcade racers are a timeless genre for me, as long as they play well. For me, this is an anticipated PS1 game to have. I mean, it's no SEGA Rally Championship, but it's fun.

Re: PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for January 2026 Leaked

Ristar24

I picked a good month to finally get a PS5 and subscribe. The original PS1 Ridge Racer is one I'll buy to play even outside the subscription. Classic and a great compliment to the arcade version now also available with the Arcade Archives release.

Re: Xbox Sales Hit New Low in UK, Barely Competes with PS5 at This Point

Ristar24

I finally went 'current gen' with the Digital PS5 over Christmas. Xbox wasn't even a consideration for me (though I had the original Xbox console way back), was Switch 2 or PS5, but the PS5 was much better value as I have a large digital PS4 Library and the new price point was so much better than Nintendo's. Plus can always add a disc drive down the road. That's part of the issue I think, PS4 being so strong after the 'so stick with 360, that's your message if you don't like it' PR disaster meant they fell behind as people were building up those digital collections over on PlayStation.

Re: Sounds Like Sony May Finally Be Starting to Wind Down PS4 Support

Ristar24

I wont be migrating to PS5 or Switch 2 at this point, so many games to play on older consoles and so much cheaper. Hope they continue to release the PS Classics on PS4 as they are the games I have most fun with. My launch PS4 broke during the pandemic and I couldn't find a PS5, so bought a PS4 Slim which is so much quieter than the original 'jet engine' version. Still frequently play it, but also have my PS3 hooked up, can't play Daytona USA or Ridge Racer 7 natively on any later PlayStation.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 595

Ristar24

I've been playing PS1 RE2 on PS4. Not having to use the ink ribbons is cheating, but I've legitimately played the game so many times and its fun to zip about with save states under emulation, still a great game to play. Really pleased 2 and 3 have been added to the classics catalogue and I got them for 'free' as owned the PS3 versions.

Also been playing my favouite C64 game, Platoon, and Hero Quest and Where Time Stood Still, on the Spectrum.

Re: Resident Evil 2, 3 PS1 Ports Disappoint with No Trophy Support on PS5, PS4

Ristar24

As I got them 'for free' for owning the PS3 versions, I'm far from disappointed. Shame Sony dont offer the same with PS2 games I owned on PS3, but this is still pretty good compared to say Nintendo with their VC games being locked to the generation where I bought them, and now behind a subscription pay wall.

I've never really had an interest in trophies myself, but I appreciate others do enjoy what they offer.

@carlos82 I owned both on my UK PSN account (they were both released on PS3 as the 60Hz NTSC versions even in the UK). Checked today and both were download option only on PS4 for me (no purchase). I know RE1 took a while to update for me so perhaps check again when you have a chance.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 594

Ristar24

Very retro week, I finally bough the new Spectrum so will play some Great Escape (I originally has this on C64) and might put Scuba Dive on a USB (one of my favourite 48K games). Both games are so visually simple, but still have such stark atmosphere for me. Still playing God's on the Amiga too on Evercade, got to the third stage where the game gets tough.

In the modern(ish) world, be some PS4 as still playing Jedi Survivor.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 593

Ristar24

Completed PS1 Loaded on Evercade last night, just as fun as I found it on the Saturn at the time. Shame the sequel isn't as good. This weekend be picking up on the Mega Drive game Arcus Odyssey also on Evercade, I'm at about the fifth stage.

Also bought Elite Dangerous on PS4 for less than £4 pounds in the current sale. Realise its a very incomplete version compared to PC, but I'd not played it in years and am enjoying starting over with some courier missions, something very relaxed about the pace.

@JamieO That 9 Years of Shadows game totally passed me by, has a nice retro style.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 592

Ristar24

Picked up the recent Gremlin Collection 2 cart for Evercade, so it's back Loaded and Hogs of War on PS1. I had Loaded on Saturn and the time, and despite the repetition it's really fun to go back to, very much a 90s game. Hogs of War I'd never played, but what a great game to discover all these years later.

Also still playing some Jedi Survivor (PS4 version) and probably play some Ridge Racer 2 (PSP) on PS4 too.

Re: Publishers Pitch Sony on Adding Retro Classics to PS Plus

Ristar24

Was happy to see Deus Ex. Weirdly though, PS1 and PSP purchases from the PS3 era seem to carry over and allow you to download the new emulations for free, but PS2 games do not.

Always glad to see new and varied additions to the classics catalogue and I appreciate being able to buy them individually generally, unlike NSO.

Re: Sony Says the Best Time to Get a PS5 Is Now

Ristar24

Not for me, after my launch PS4 broke in the pandemic, I couldn't find a PS5 so replaced it with another PS4 Slim. I really enioyed the PS3 and PS4 and still use my consoles, but I moved over to Switch as my main gaming plaform. I started gaming back with the Atari 2600, but in recent years I've just lost interest in the race for the best graphics and what feels like increasing homogenous big budget game design. I'm going to wait out to see how the Switch successor turns out at this point.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Silent Hill 2?

Ristar24

No, I think the original game is one of the true greats, but I'm not drawn to a remake. While I don't begrudge the new game or anyone's appreciation of it, I think the absence of an easily available means to play the original on new consoles is a real shame. Playing Signalis for this first time at the moment, it's really good.

Re: Retro PS2 TimeSplitters Titles Outperform PS5, PC Flop Concord in UK Charts

Ristar24

I no longer subscribe or have a PS5 but bought TimeSplitters 2 and 3 for my PS4. Such great games, I had a lot of fun playing 2 for the first time in years and regret I missed Future Perfect at the time. I don't know much about Concord, I've felt quite alienated from the current console generation overall and the direction of many of these newer live service games.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 477

Ristar24

When not working, some more Tears of the Kingdom mostly. I think its a really great game. I still prefer the intricately designed environmental puzzles of the older 3D Zelda games, outside of the open world, and there are performance issues, but the game's separate elements all work together well in a way Breath of the Wild just didn't for me.

Also still playing V Rally 4 on PS4 after picking up super cheap on the PSN sale. I know it had average reviews, but has has a real PS1 / Saturn era arcade style 'feel' to the racing. The game seems to crash a lot though, and the only fix I've found seems to be taking it offline!

Re: SEGA Could Join Sony in Raising Its Game Prices to $70

Ristar24

It's a lot, but then I remember Street Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive was £60, and Vitrua Racing was (I think) £80 or more...in the 90s! This was coming off £1.99 - £3.99 for tape games on the then popular 8-bit Mircos in the UK, the Spectrum and C64.

Cheaper games are always good though, I only buy a new game full price if it's something I really want to play at launch, and I don't pre order. It's really poor to see expensive games launch in a glitchy state, and requiring numerous patches to work properly.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Nothing on PS5, PS4, Can Compete with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Ristar24

I didn't really like Breath of the Wild, even though I bought it twice over a period to see if I could get into the game. Playing a few hours of the new game over the weekend, I immediately enjoyed it more. The weapons seem to last longer, there seems to be more direction by design. Will see if it continues to hold my attention, but to me at least it seems a real improvement over the previous game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 475

Ristar24

That Starscream picture for a moment made me think I'd somehow missed some Transformers related gaming news, ha. Makes me want to boot up Fall of Cybertron on my PS4.

Still on my Skyward Sword HD play through for the moment, after too many open words I really appreciate the game's linear but intricate environmenal puzzle design.
