As my PS4 is out of action, have gone back to PS3 and am enjoying some Daytona USA, Revenge of Shinobi and replaying Tomb Raider Anniversary. Also starting playing GTA 5 on PS3.
@playstation1995 My PS4 I'd had since 2014 just went wrong after 8.03, keeps going into safe mode...Its difficult to find a new Pro and PS5 is impossible. I could get one used, but may just wait. I think its possible Games like Dishonored and Evil Within may still be on PlayStation if they make sequels, hopefully.
@playstation1995 Yep, Bluepoint have done amazing work, no doubt. My PS4 has given up at the moment so probably waiting to get a PS5 before I get around to any more new games. Enjoying the PS3 for the moment!
Yeah, I play my 2DS XL a lot too. I find myself increasing less interested in modern gaming, as I dont really enjoy online games and would rather play through Midnight Resistence or OutRun. I really liked Doom 3, played on the original Xbox back in the day. Not sure how relevant I am to these conversations but will be a PS5 I'll pick up next I'm sure, then use it to play Bubble Bobble and Sunset Riders on arcade archives probably, ha.
Only one I really liked was Evil Within, and to be honest, RE has eclipsed it now anyway. I prefered Doom 3 and Wolfenstein Tides of War to these modern ones. Indiana Jones, what was the last good one, Lego? I guess the PSP version of Staff of Kings was OK.
@NEStalgia See what you're saying, but Im mostly a retro gamer anyway at this point to be honest. I'll pick up a PS5 at some point when they are available, just as my PS4 has recently given up, and can carry through my PS4 digital games. I would say I found what Microsoft tried to do at time though, uniquely outrageous. No incentive for me to get an Xbox, if I was going to get into more cutting edge gaming, I'd get a PC. In the meantime I'll be playing my PS3, Xbox 360, C64 and an Evercade!
I'd get a PS5 probably, if I could find one. I'd never buy another Xbox after their attempt to add a fee to used games, all those years back (still have a 360). They may have u-turned under pressure, but to me it showed the brand's 'vision' if they feel they dont have competition.
@Deljo Yep, Last Ninja was an amazing game at the time, great atmosphere and that first stage music by the late, great, Ben Daglish. The jumps over the river were a bit frustrating, but I finally beat the game recently with some save states.
Last Ninja 2 is just as good, its my favouite in the series.
@hypnotoad Yep, and Ninja Gaiden as Shadow Warriors... At least we had 'The Last Ninja' games on the C64!
Still have my Megadrive copy of Hyperstone Heist (and Fall of the Foot Clan on Game Boy)! This looks a bit like a GBA game. My PS4 has given up sadly, so cant pick this up until I can hopefully find a PS5, at some point.
@TommyArter Agree with you there, the driving was pretty floaty and I think could have really done with some improvement, but overall I was having fun with the game.
I was enjoying this game on PS4 after getting it in a digital sale, partly though just seeing how well they had created this compressed version of London to wander about in. Then my PS4 went weird after 8.03, initialised it once and worked for about a week, but now just keeps going into an error state in safe mode. Cant find a PS5 for sale and dont really want to replace the PS4 with another one, so not going to play this again for a while.
Was playing a bit of Shadow of the Tomb Raider on PS4 as have it from PS plus. I like that you can use retro Lara models, though I still prefer the more platform based gameplay of the older ones. I did play through the reboot on PS3, but got bored playing Rise. Will see how this one goes.
Still playing Dirt 5 too, usually in arcade mode with the soundtrack to SEGA Rally on the Saturn in the background. I think its a pretty good arcade racer.
I bought PS4 games almost exclusively digitally in the past year, partly due to the situation we're in it seemed easier and there were some great sales. For full price games I still bought some physical discs. However, I also bought an Evercade and about 6 cartridges just this year!
@iStarkill Thats true, though over here in Europe, the PS TV forces our PAL PS1 PSN releases into 60hz, whereas the PS3 can operate them in their original 50hz refresh rate... works great for those we did get in 60Hz though, such as RE2.
I have a PS TV, but I cant find it at the moment, ha. Still use my Vita though, I rotate the occasional game from my PS3 as I also lost two of my three Vita memory cards!
Crazy Taxi had hidden depth. Like SEGAs best arcade games, it was easy to learn, but hard to master. The boost and drift for the taxi being linked to the gear shift / accelerate / steer mechanic meant it was possible to get great at the game and play for ages on a single credit. I completed all of the extra challenge modes on both games on the Dreamcast, and it was very challenging. The game could get pretty 'crazy' fast and required a lot of practice, looking at the videos of this game, it looks to be pretty lacking beyond the basic concept it shares, sadly.
I had the 'Day One' edition on PS4, came with a nice paper map. There were elements I really liked, the open city detective elements were really interesting. Navigating to locations without way points using visual clues I found to be engaging and more immersive than a floating arrow. The game was so glitchy though, and the combat was not fun at all for me. It was very cluncky and I feel it detracted from the atmosphere.
Flawed, but interesting enough that I played through the whole game and I was not disappointed with my purchase. I feel its problems are partly by design, so not suprised PS5 offers limited improvements.
@JamieO Hey, yep I certainly agree after playing through the Amiga Turrican games on PS4 (I had them on C64 back in the day), Mega Turrican is a more faithful game to the series than the more linear SNES title. I also played that first on the Wii VC.
Gunlord X on PS4 is a really good Turrican style game too.
Midnight Resistance I first played on my friend's Atari ST years back. I recently bought a Super Retrocade and playing the excellent arcade version reminded me I'd meant to get the Megadrive version for some time, but the price put me off. Really pleased I could pick the game up cheap for the Evercade and I think the MD version is equal to the arcade, the music surpasses it!
I recently bought an Evercade and a few cartridges, so perhaps some Megadrive Midnight Resistance and some Dizzy games... Also Turrican Flashback on PS4. I have a few other PS4 games to get to, but seem to be mostly playing retro games at the moment.
The first game for me was quite unique. The 3D space seemed essentially grid based, so take tiny steps to the edge, jump step back, run, jump, then grab. It seems complex, but it was very precise once you learned the game (I completed it on the Saturn). The sparse environments and minimal use of ochestral music really created a unique atmosphere at the time. The Crystal Dymanics games were fun and I felt the most recent reboot trilogy really followed down the Uncharted route. Making the 3D exploration really streamlined and automated and shifting the focus away from platform exploration to 3rd person shooter, which was ok, but I got tired about mid way through the second one. Be interested to see where they go next.
@SoulChimera I missed the 360 version too, but the original Xbox 2006 works fairly well on the 360 through BC. The is where digital only is a pain. I also have the Simpsons Arcade game on my PS3, which is now long gone as something you could purchase.
@SoulChimera Yep,I have the PC disc version of Out Run 2, both Xbox versions and the PSP, but that PS3 version looked great and I missed it. Its a timeless arcade game and SEGA should bring it back somehow... they seem to waste so many oppertunites.
I still have this on PS3... I thought it was OK, I don't like having to level up in scrolling beat 'em ups. Very nice packaging though. To be honest I'd be far more excited if Out Run 2 or GTI Club came back from delisted status.
@Total_Weirdo Amiga was a great computer, I only had the C64 myself before moving to consoles. My friend had an Atari ST though and spent ages playing Dungeon Master on there.
As someone who remembers the BBC Micro in school back in the 1980s, good to hear. Funny though, I think lots of kids at the time pitched the Spectrum or C64 to their parents as 'educational', but really just we wanted to play games.
Might play a bit of Super Ghouls and Ghosts, which I'm yet to complete, or Mega Man 3 as I've worked through the first two again. Been really enjoying the Super Retrocade I bought recently, who needs a PS5 ha. If I find some more modern gaming time I'm still playing Watch Dogs Legion and Dirt 5.
I have Dreams, aside from a couple of really neat games I've not really played it. I also couldn't get into the creation, I kept thinking it would work better with mouse and it seemed really complex, I just don't have the time to commit to learning the tools. I'd like some simpler 2D sprite based options to be honest like SEUCK on the C64. Most games also make my PS4 fan go into overdrive.
I'm still on PS4, bit more Watch Dogs: Legion, I like the game though I do see why the reviews were not the best. Maybe also some Miles Morales or Dirt 5, and Mega Man 2 if I'm feeling retro.
I went on the store and saw this. Was ok on PS4 though, had a look through the list there.
On a side note, the purchase option on the PS3 store has been glitched for some time now and no longer appears on the individual game pages, I had to look up a solution online. You can only 'add to cart' by clicking on the game image... I know its PS3 but seems they really dont want you to buy anything there.
I bought a Super Retrocade, so been playing Midnight Resistance. On PS4 maybe some more Dirt 5 or Watch Dogs: Legion, not the best game, but interesting to see virtual London.
I think showing 'PS4 gameplay' close to launch that didn't represent the true picture is pretty bad. Its not a new idea, I remember picking up C64 games on cassette in the 80s with screens shots from the Amiga on the box. However, it would at least say 'screen shots from Amiga and Atari ST version', you knew your 8-bit game was not going to look like that. Dark Souls 2 was one I fell for, rushing out to buy the game at launch on PS3 as a fan of the first, to find a game that looked nothing like as good as pre release 'gameplay'. I always wait now to see the actual version I am buying before I purchase. It needs to stop really though, and a better refund policy on psn would encourage company's to think twice before pushing out unfinish games.
Regarding updates, on an interesting aside, I recently bought Dirt 5 on PS4 and tried the unpatched disc release before I updated it. All of the surface animation (mud, water splashes and so on) was missing prior to the patch.
@Dange Looks like a good update, retro mode is always appreciated. I still think its a great game, but the rock, paper, scissors could be frustrating back in the day with no save states!

Crazy Taxi was a great arcade game. It is easy to play but using the break / shift mechanic to boost and drift added a layer of complexity the more you played it.
