For many, PS4 exclusive Bloodborne is considered one of FromSoftware's top games, if not its best to date.
The atmospheric Souls-like action RPG left a big impression on players with its brilliant art direction, haunting soundtrack, and engaging, challenging combat.
It's a favourite for many fans, but it sounds like it's very important to its director, Hidetaka Miyazaki.
Speaking to Game Informer, he says Bloodborne is "a special game for me", and says there are a couple of reasons why. The first is that it was a particularly tough game to produce, describing it as "probably the most challenging development cycle we've had from a studio perspective."
A more personal reason, though, is how much of himself he put into the game. "I've imparted a lot of my own ideas into this game," Miyazaki says, "whether it be the story, the world-building component, or even the game mechanics and the game systems that are in place."
He concludes his comments on Bloodborne by calling it "perhaps the strongest reflection of my type of flavouring of a game that one can experience."
So, if you wanted to know which of Miyazaki's games is the most him, you have your answer.
Bloodborne is still (officially) only available to play on PS4, and fans have been calling out for a port to PC and PS5, as well as a remaster and even a sequel.
Unfortunately, while there have appeared to be clues over the years, it seems Sony isn't making any moves with the game right now. Last year was its 10th anniversary, and there was basically nothing to mark the occasion.
Fans will continue to fly the flag for Bloodborne until it's revisited in some way; whether Sony ever does take action is unclear, but it'd be daft not to, right?

It’s just a more angsty Dark Souls.
Nothing that wasn't quasi-known already...
Bloodborne remaster confirmed!... oh no, wait... nevermind 😞
I hope he decides he’s also 60fps and updates the game to reflect that about himself.
@dskatter The IP is owned by Sony. Not up to him.
"fans have been calling out for a port to PC and PS5, as well as a remaster and even a sequel"
Imho a straight sequel doesn't makes sense after the base game ending and especially The Old Hunters DLC ending wrapped up everything nicely.
I rather they make a standalone sequel with new setting, lore, and characters. But again, it could end up like Dark Souls 2...
@Pat_trick People always forget about that part...
Console launch exclusive ps6
@dskatter Not up to him, take it up with Sony
I allowed myself to buy into online hype, being a fan of horror and horror games in general, and bought this digitally at launch. Never doing that for a game from a developer I have no experience with again. I really didn't like it, and even having gone back and actually beating it years later, it's still a game I have little love for.
Shocking Bloodborne didn't win a single award at the TGA15 🤦♂️. Pretty sure it was just too hard at the time for people to even care. Same thing with KCD2 now.
For me, what makes Bloodborne so special is that it stands alone. It was a one-off and we're only given hints at the wider world and lore. A lot is left unsaid, and that's what makes it great.
I would of course abandon this stance if a sequel were announced, and buy it on day one.
Definitely my favourite Souls game. After they made the excellent Demon's Souls remake a launch ps5 game, doing the same with Bloodborne for ps6 would be wonderful. Fingers crossed.
Why would we need Bloodborne remastered when we can have The Last of Us 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn remastered....
Some say "Kosm".
@Pat_trick @Shinnok789 I’m very aware of that. It was what we in the business call “a joke.”
@dskatter setting aside a commonly understood fact to have a little laugh. Its all good.
He's said this like a million times already. I wish they'd make a sequel, it's crazy how little there really is of this masterpiece
@TheArt "Shocking Bloodborne didn't win a single award at the TGA15"
The competition was really tight back in 2015. It had MGS 5, Fallout 4, Arkham Knight, and Witcher 3 which won GotY and Best RPG.
But Bloodborne won some awards from Golden Joystick and British Academy Games Awards.
It’s been almost 16 years and still nothing has come out that’s better than Bloodborne.
He's said this before. This isn't news.
