Replaying Alien Isolation as was on sale over on the Switch. Pre ordered and first played it back on PS3 (still have my nice steel book version). Looks great on Switch Lite and good to play with headphones.
Also might play some Super Castlevania IV as I like to play through the game around Halloween.
I like the look of them, glad they didn't change too much, these games are iconic. Hope the controls are improved though. Also, it's a real shame Vice City Stories was not included, I really liked that one.
Well, I'm not going to download or play them probably... I mostly don't thinking about it, as if there is one I would play I probably already bought it.
I'll hold off. A former update really messed up my launch PS4 so I had to buy a slim (no PS5 consoles really available at the time). Be pretty irritating if my few months old slim started playing up!
Been playing some Doom 3 on Switch and New Super Mario Bros. U Delux, I prefer the 2D Mario games really. Also broke out my 2DS XL for some G.G. Shinobi, such an outstanding Game Gear game, the Shinobi games are truly overdue a comprehensive collection.
Weirdly, I just gave up and got a Switch Lite for now, which I have to say I'm really enjoying playing as I missed having a great little handheld console. I'm finding I'm playing the Switch more than the PS4, so my interest in PS5 has drifted a bit. I think when Elden Ring is out, I might be more motivated!
Seem to be mostly gaming on my Switch Lite lately, it really is the Vita 2 I wanted from Sony. Enjoing SEGA Ages and been playing Rush Rally 3, a nice little rally game at 60fps currently on sale for about 3 quid.
@anoyonmus Yep, I know not native, but PS5 should boost that performance up a bit I would hope, like the pro. If the game is not running locked 60fps on PS5, base PS4 is likely worst, though I'll watch some gameplay to be sure as may be very occasional drops. I had the game back on Wii, was quite good. The Sonic games on PS3 also ran at 30fps, but I feel SEGA should have got this running pretty flawless on PS4, especially if its an 'anniversary' release. I'm waiting for more info on their next retro Sonic collection, hopefully turns out well.
@anoyonmus I think it really depends how occasional. Sonic Team Racing I prefer to play on my Switch Lite properly frame paced at 30fps, to base PS4's jarring inconsistent 60fps, but I think if I had a PS4 Pro or PS5 it would be better. Seeing this is dropping on PS5, does make we wonder how base PS4 performance is.
I had the game on Wii and thought it was OK to good... Generations I'd say was a better game.
I played a lot when the game launched, then it had an awful patch that rendered the game unplayable in low res and added an auto center to the steering (when they first added working wing mirrors). My truck also vanished and was unretrivable. They fixed the graphics and steering, but I never really went back to the game and my glitched vanishing truck never reappeared despite the menu saying I owned it. Have it digitally though, so will get back to it one day I think.
Been playinig Operancia on Switch (is also on PS4). I'm a fan of grid based first person Dungeon crawlers, starting with the classic Dungeon Master on the Atari ST. Its a genre you dont see much and this game totally passed me by when released.
I played the original on the Xbox years ago and thought it was quite good, not as great as it was described to me at the time. I haven't exactly been holding for the sequel. I do still enjoy a 3D platformer though and its not a common genre these days, so will look it up in more detail.
@Slippship Sadly my copy didn't have invade-a-load, but the brilliant Ocean Loader tune in all its versions made the wait for a tape to load a lot less painful!
@Mostik Stunt Car Racer was great on the Amiga, but the C64 version was the one I had at the time. The 3D graphics (for an 8-bit Mirco) impress me to this day. Am looking forward to the A500 mini.
Been replaying Ghostbusters the Video Game on PS4 and Switch Lite, had it on PS3 years back and it holds up well I think. Also might play some C64 games, feel like replaying Ocean's Batman the Movie and maybe some Stunt Car Racer.
@HeroYoshiko Yep, I see what you mean, the analogue sticks on the Switch Lite (and just the shape of the device) feel less precise overall than the DS4, and playing on a TV / Monitor. I've not actually played a FPS on there, but I have noticed it in third person 3D games while moving the camera. Either will control better than my old Saturn version though ha.
@mcdreamer How is it on Switch? I bought a Lite recently and realised how much I missed the Vita! Same price, so I might go for the Switch version myself.
@get2sammyb Hope so, the game is great and really deserves better than the PS4 version we have.
@Orpheus79V Yep, PS2 on PS4 was such a poor effort. As PS4 can't output 50Hz the PAL games were arguably worst presented than on PS3, as they were forced into 60Hz creating new frame pacing problems (just like the PlayStation Classic mini console).
The PS2 classic on PS4 isn't great, at least the PAL version. Weird 50Hz frame pacing issues, sometimes I can see a 'grid' of sorts on the screen and there are sound glitches. Its also the only game on PS4 where I have had a problem running from an external hard drive and had to move it to internal storage. I have the PS3 version based I think on the mobile version, which ups the resolution and draw distance, but removes the distinct orange colour and worst still, all the transparent grass textures. I still think its a great game, though I prefer to play the original Xbox version on a 360 via BC.
Been travelling over the weekend so brought the Switch Lite and playing some Sonic Team Racing, Alex Kidd DX, and the Turrican Flashback Collection, Amiga on the go! Also have to mention the Arcade Archives release of Vendetta which is also on PS4, I'd never played the game before, but its a great classic scrolling beat 'em up and really worth checking out if you are a fan of the genre.
@JamieO Yep, my first impression of Valhalla was good, will keep an eye out for the dlc and hopefully find a PS5 at some point. I've been playing on my Switch Lite a lot since I bought one, just got the Turrican collection after originally buying on PS4, Amiga on the go.
I would love to see Dungeon Master on the A500 Mini, spent so many hours playing that on my friend's ST in the late 80s and what an atmospheric game.
Thanks for the Valhalla heads up, am looking forward to the A500 mini, the C64 range is a great product as far as I'm concerned. Batman the Movie is a great game, Ocean's Platoon on the C64 is also outstanding (far better than the NES version), and I often replay the first few stages.
@JamieO No worries, I actually picked up Valhalla as had some stuff to trade into CEX so is now present in my backlog, will keep an eye out for the dlc on sale, be interested to see historic Co. Meath in videogame form.
I was by coincidence looking up the Amiga from Retro Games last night as they had put a teaser up months ago, then saw the A500 Mini news this evening! I didn't have an Amiga myself back in the day, had the cheaper C64, but did have a friend with an Atari ST. Always wished my C64 games looked as good as those 16 bit Amiga screen shots they used to put on the back of game boxes. I'd really like to see Dungeon Master on there, especially as a mouse is included. It's a shame Ocean's licenced stuff like Batman the Movie cant be on there at launch, but some great Amiga games are listed no doubt. I have the C64 mini and the C64, so will want to pick the A500 Mini.
I bought it some time ago on sale, started it, gave up and deleted it... I realise there are meaningful themes here, but as a game it seemed so clunky.
I first played Project Zero 2 on the original Xbox and thought it was a really great horror game, one of the best I've ever played. Part of the reason I bought a Wii was anticipating the 4th game, then they never released it outside Japan (cheers, Nintendo). They did release the remake of 2 on Wii in Europe, but it wasn't nearly as good as the original Xbox version I'd played, in my opinion. I've meant to play the 3rd game for years but it never got released on PS3 digitally in Europe. This (5th proper sequel) didn't review that well, and after playing the remake of the 2nd game my expectations are not that high. Sony should have got the exclusive PS2 3rd game on PS4 as I hear its really good.
I bought a new PS4 slim a month or so ago. My launch console broke and couldn't find a PS5. It may not be a PS5, but its so much quieter than my old model which had the proper 'jet engine' fan noise.
Been playing my Switch Lite mostly, still getting back into Xenoblade Chronicles. Also enjoying some SEGA AGES titles on Switch, but was disappointed with the Megadrive collection, as the emulation seems to run better on PS4.
@Ralizah Yeah, I feel they should let you back up saves easier. Must say overall I am really enjoying the console and playing Xenoblade again and some SEGA AGES, but the online sub really isn't worth it to me. Super Castlevania IV is one of my favouite SNES games, but as Konami have the collection it's not on the SNES app. GB/GBA would make it it a more attractive prospect.
@Ralizah Ha yes, I just bought a Switch Lite and wont be renewing my online sub after the free 7 days expire... I pretty much own the NES and SNES games I like elsewhere.
This month on PS Plus is pretty bad too... I might play the tennis game, I guess.
Finally bought a Switch Lite so started Xenoblade again, which I really did enjoy on the Wii but didn't complete. Also picked up Arcade Achives Vendetta which I'd never heard of, my first impression is its a really great scrolling beat 'em up.
Then why do I remember Dragon's Lair on the C64, which may be the worst video game I ever played...Seriously though, I do worry that this is bit too 'safe' an approach to that can lead to overly homogeneous design, despite selling well (if we interpret the statement to mean this). Its often when a game does something original or different that I really remember it years later, and I started with the Atati 2600.
@PhhhCough I played it, was great! Had the SNES game too, but I sold it years back.
@frankmcma I quite liked Legion, plus was interesting seeing how they compressed London, I could get from Brixton to the South Bank in 5 minutes!
@JamieO Yep, I have the Japanese version of the original OutRun for Saturn, best way to play the game in my opinion, with a 3D pad it's great. I remember having the the C64 version on tape which was a surprising decent version. The game came with a casette of the arcade music I used to listen to a lot! Team Sonic Racing was a good game, some excellent music, but has a few framerate issues on base PS4 which was slightly disappointing in an arcade racer.
Good thing about the original Xbox version of Coast to Coast is, it does play on the 360 and works fairly well with a few glitches here and there. Looks quite nice upscaled.
Online Arcade getting delisted on PS3 is such a shame, regret I missed it. I do have After Burner Climax and Daytona on the PS3, so the console still see use from me.
I still have my first run of Retro Gamer in the loft!
Finished Alex Kidd DX last week but I might try again for some trophies. I thought it was a great update despite the poor review here, I mostly play with the retro graphics and it really feels like a lost extension to the Master System original.
Also picked up Outer Worlds in the sale so finally getting to that game, enjoyed the first few hours so bought the Season Pass on sale too.
@JamieO I missed out on OutRun Online Arcade, be so great if SEGA could reaquire the licence as its one of my favouite video games of all time along with the 1986 original. I have the 2006 original Xbox, PSP and PC version, but the PS3 port looked really good.

@JamieO Yep, I have the Japanese version of the original OutRun for Saturn, best way to play the game in my opinion, with a 3D pad it's great.
