January 2026 PS Plus Essential Games Are Available to Download Now

I'll finally give Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed a try. Was tempted to try it on psvita back in the day, but I never got around it.

Definitely downloading Epic Mickey

I think I'll be trying Core Keeper. It looks very Stardew Valley.

Epic Mickey Rebrushed is pleasant. Good to see it's been uplifted nicely from its 2010 Wii release. Need For Speed Unbound might be cool if your expectations aren't high and you can ignore the garish artstyle that looks like a teenager threw their art project up all over the screen.

My highest hopes are for Core Keeper, though I just tried it for ten minutes and died twice in the first cavern I broke through to! Seems a tad more hard-core than Stardew Valley. Will have to brace myself for more Terraria-style sudden death..

I did play Epic Mickey on Wii, and the sequel on PS3. I bought rebrushed on Switch but didn't run very well, so be interested to try PS5. Will also try Need for Speed just to see how it plays, I still enjoy arcade racers.

No NFS pun intended but I'll be swerving this lacklustre selection in the hope that this month's Extra is a better offering.

Downloading Epic Mickey now I played it on the Wii years ago so looking forward to seeing what improvements are in the rebrushed version.

This month seems like a Mickey Mouse offering.

When you play a mediocre, run of the mill, lazy cut and paste platform family game (Mickey Rebrushed) you really end up appreciating just how brilliant and cleverly designed the great ones are (Astro Bot etc).

Core Keeper is a keeper.

It’s actually not. Although if anything it gets easier as it goes on and you level up and get better drops. A fantastic game, stick with it.

Less story, more gameplay.

I bought NFS Unbound when it sold with 95% discount or something, and it's... fine, I guess. Better than all previous PS4 entries, but I know it's not saying much. Oh, and you can turn off cartoonish effects if you want.

Then you might also want to try graveyard keeper by the way. A little closer to stardew valley than this but still more gameplay less story.

@4fold I'm a veteran of Graveyard Keeper and the DLCs. That was a weird but great game. I got really addicted to the game-play loop once I figured out how it worked. I hope people gave it a chance, the humor was brilliant too. I considered playing through it again, even with platinum. I'm hoping Haunted Chocolatier releases this year, it's the same developer as Stardew Valley, it feels like the wait has already been two years. I heard Wytchwood is good too.

Quite getting into this Core Keeper. But there doesn't seem to be any online games? List always empty and no one joins mine either. Is it mostly played solo?

@Dalamar I just checked as I have not played nfs unbound for a while and no you can't turn off the cartoon effects. What you can do is customise them so they are just plain effects eg the smoke off your tyres etc but all the silly emoji that yours and the other cars spew out are still there. You do get used to them but the option to turn them off completely and the option to remap your buttons would have made this a lot more enjoyable for me. Still a great racer.

Core Keeper looks nice and cozy for the portal.
