@SMJ as so often it’s something in between but this for sure might not as catchy enough for the internet. A lot of games showing clear improvements on the ps5 pro as already stated so often, but otherwise there are bad examples.
Is the whole console bad or unnecessary because of some bad examples of games? I don’t think so. Is it acceptable that some games looking worse on the pro as on the base console? No.
We will see what the new iteration of PSSR will bring next year.
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy but this feeling can also vary heavily. There are people who might claim that nearly everything should run on a ps4 also while others claiming that 1-2 years after a console launch the hardware is already outdated… The ps5 pro doesn’t have this one clear marketing tag like the ps4 pro but the console should, and often it does, achieve higher resolutions and run the quality graphic modes in a higher framerate and resolution. The case that some games looking worse on it compared to the base ps5 is simply not acceptable.
All the listed bad examples are UE5 games. PSSR and UE5 mostly doesn’t work that well together, due to the often low resolution and the weak behaviour of PSSR as a denoiser. We won’t see a huge change in this regards until 2026 when the upgraded FSR4-like PSSR will drop. Hopefully all these games will revive an update then. To say also something positive, we still have a lot of pretty good Pro updates and a lot of games where PSSR is doing a pretty solid job.
@Flobbots don’t think that. They won’t put that much effort in it and the engine is way too demanding for a VR mode. But it would be fantastic for sure.
It’s a nice test scenario for the upcoming handheld or whatever but this is honestly nothing that you want to use. You don’t buy a ps5 (pro) to scale it back.
@Rich33 pretty curious how this will all turn out with the PSSR update next year and if we see updates for all these games with a mediocre PSSR image quality like Outlaws, Jedi Survivor, SH2, Alan Wake 2, … of it the games will remain in their current state. For CP2077 honestly I don’t have that much hope that they will give this game a proper pro patch. There is just a very low level support and the game uses the Red engine which is more or less abandoned by CDPR, but let’s hope for the best.
This huge turnaround won’t come most likely. This studio isn’t CDPR and they are already affected with layoffs. Even the support with patches stopped massively. There hasn’t been a new patch since months.
@Frmknst I wouldn’t call it trash. It was a mobile game was now released on the consoles. It’s a nice little fun/street racer like the old NFS titles. Sure games like Forza Horizon and The Crew are much much better but that’s not a reason to call this trash.
@Kiefer-Sutherland it’s always in between as so often. The topic itself is worth to be covered and we should expect better these days but it won’t be as terrible as some comments are describing it.
30 bucks for it would have been too much but as a free game you will have some fun with it. Otherwise thinking that you can get The Crew Motorfest on disc for around 15 bucks and you have a much better game.
Pretty sad for this otherwise fantastic remake. I would guess there will be a day 1 patch but I wouldn’t put too much hope that this patch could magically iron out all these heavy framerate dips.
I don’t know, probably this might be some surprising good game but so far everything that I’ve seen from it doesn’t want me to spend time or money for it.
@peewee78368 probably you got the game also digital over ps plus or something? The FAQ says that disc owners need to wait longer. Will try it with the disc later today.
Have the ps4 disc version of part 1 here on my backlog since years. Baught the version as a used one years ago. This now finally come to its full glory with the ps5 version
@get2sammyb are cutscenes running with 30 fps or is it possible to let them run in a higher framerate on the consoles? Day-1 patch wasn’t really clear in this regard for the consoles.
Translation PR -> English: When the game is successful enough they will definitely think about it but for the moment there is nothing they want to announce.
Interesting article. Hoping for the best. At least a 40 fps mode on the base ps5 and the pro should make a lot of people pretty happy. If they are going to achieve more, especially on the pro it’s of course highly welcome.
@Bamila it’s no Pro support as we would expect with a better upscaler like PSSR or an enhanced fidelity mode. Nevertheless it runs a bit better on the pro with a higher dynamic resolution. So in some way you benefit from the pro also for this game but it could be more for sure.
With VRR activated the game now seems to run with an unlocked framerate. Performance mode usually between 60-80 fps on the pro. Quality mode seems to run around 40 fps, which could make the mode much more attractive for many gamers.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare definitely. An update to FSR 3 or PSSR would help with the image quality. A 40 fps mode for the quality mode should also work at least for the ps5 pro. But I guess we’re too late in lifecycle of this game to see these features added. Still having a glimpse of hope that the improved VRR support unlocks the framerate.
@Gremio108 yeah for sure. Game is already „completely“ patched. These new additions in 2.3 are nice to have but by far not impressive. Perfect start to begin the game with version 2.2.
@lazarus11 ah okay. Still Strange. 5 years or more than 3 years after the current gen release and we have better HDR settings and proper VRR xD Alright.
Hype for this update was probably a bit too big when we see how it turns out now. Nevertheless nice to see some improvements. VRR could mean it’s a bit smoother and we might have an unlocked framerate especially on the pro? Thought a VRR in general was already active in that game… An FSR update in consoles would have been nice but I guess we won’t see this for an 5 almost 5 year old game at this point.
