A new PS5 firmware update is available to download now, but it is something of a secret at the moment as Sony has not shared word of it anywhere online, and the PS5 console doesn't prompt you to download it either.
Weighing in at 1.34GB, you can trigger a download from the Settings menu on your PS5 by selecting the System option and then clicking System Software Update and Settings. The top option should tell you an update is available.
Straight from Sony, the patch note for update 25.05-11.60.00 is the following:
- We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
After a few PS5 firmware updates have focused on other areas of the console experience, it's always nice of Sony to return to its classic stability enhancements. It's unlikely there'll be any other changes made under the hood with this firmware update, but if anything else crops up, we'll update this article.

I was about to make a funny comment about this but system stability is nothing to laugh about.
Shhhh. They patched the latest Jailbreaks
Regular security updates. Same as on nearly any other kind of hardware. All fine
I was just thinking my system could do with some more stability, seems likes it's been a while.
Thank the wee man they have sent us a secret update!
It didn't help. My PS5 is still shaking when disc start spinning.
The old classic "secret update" thats not so secret now due to P🟦 😂
@Czar_Khastik One of your best!
@DonkeyFantasy Not yet I'm afraid! Sony only said it's coming at some point this year, so the timing is a bit vague, unfortunately.
My Pro never notifies me when there's an update available anyway. It's been like that since I added the AliExpress dark plates.
Funny we get stability updates but my systems always seem stable to begin with.
🤫 don’t tell anyone
They should do a firmware update that changes the PS5 into a PS5 Pro.
On the very rare occasion, my PS5 freezes up on the dash. It happened yesterday, and after a while it restarted itself and sent a report.
Also my dualsense occasionally thinks I've plugged a microphone in and the tv sound goes off. About once a fortnight. Fix is to plug headphones in and take out. I never even use the jack!
Sony translation: "Security loophole closed". Probably introduced in the last firmware patch.
@dodgykebaab Bad Bad Sony won’t do this
To this day, I'm not entirely sure what System Feature Update does on the settings. It's weird that it's separate from the other firmware updates.
PS5 is closer to become more stable than my 3DS...
@KoopaTheGamer I used it once before and I think it added those new wallpaper options in the Welcome Hub.
That's about it.
@GoodGame Oh my god how did you know this? The engineers at Sony are SCREAMING! You saw through the code, the smokescreen! Their secrets are EXPOSED! Just as simple as that! Keep your head low, they will be coming for you.
Diablo 4 etc says now I have to add it to library but I already did and now it won't add
@Czar_Khastik my ps5 is so stable it laughs at ma after I've had a few beers 🍻 🤣
Removed - unconstructive
@Nakatomi_Uk That one is acting weird. Try clicking the dots and view product then click the dots again and select version, and one of the versions can be added. I think that’s what I had to do.
I just wanted to say my pro like the douches do
@BiosNova LMAO
Well my ps5 pro is currently positioned sitting on top of 4 well places jenga pieces so I’m in for a stability update lol
1.34GB secret firmware. So why is mine downloading a 6.83GB update when I was on it yesterday
I bought the PS5 ‘skates’ from Glistco 2 years ago for the best stability ever!!!
My ps5 has only ever crashed once in the time I've had it but the games have had some kiniption fits...
It's a secret? So it must be the addition of the option to have the PS4 UI, folders like the PS4,themes, saves to usb drives, and a proper way to use the web browser like the PS3 and PS4 have. Also an added shape shifting ability to optionally make the PS5 into a pretty matte black rectangle shaped console.
Same as it ever was.
@dodgykebaab I'm waiting for that one as well lol
@Czar_Khastik True. And regarding system stability, we should always be looking to improve it.
