Cyberpunk 2077 VRR PS5 Pro

With the recently released Patch 2.3, Cyberpunk 2077 now sports full VRR support on PS5 and PS5 Pro — and it turns out that enabling the setting produces significant performance gains.

This is according to a new report from Digital Foundry, who say that the implementation of VRR goes above and beyond expectations — especially on the Pro.

So, for those who may not know, VRR (which stands for Variable Refresh Rate) basically syncs your TV or monitor with your console, combatting potential issues like screen tearing, while also allowing for better frame rates.

And in Cyberpunk's case, VRR actually unlocks the 60 frames-per-second cap when using the game's Performance mode. This means that the frame rate can reach up to 120fps in specific situations on PS5 Pro, and, based on Digital Foundry's testing, maintain an average of 81fps. Smooth.

And to be fair, it sounds like the regular PS5 does still benefit from VRR, holding an average of 63fps. That's obviously not as impressive as the performance boost on Pro, but it's still an (often noticeable) improvement, especially when speeding through Night City.

A fairly impressive upgrade then — at least, if you've got a display that's VRR compatible — and it makes us wonder whether additional improvements will be made down the line. Maybe we're not that far from a proper PS5 Pro patch, but we wouldn't want to get your hopes up!
