Re: PS4 Games That Need a PS5 Patch

Reeneman

@THEONE19 the shadow of the colossus remake runs with 60 fps and a framerate above 1080p. I think it’s fine and there are games that need a further patch more as shadow of the colossus.

@Olmaz thanks always hard to judge.
From framerate, loading times, enemy account, lightning… and many more.
This huge jump that we have some decades ago in video game visuals are not to expect with this gen but there are still a lot of details that are not longer possible on the last gen consoles.

As much as it hurts for ps4 owners that might struggle to upgrade to a ps5, but it’s time that the cross gen development is going to end soon. The capabilities of the ps4 are far exceeded. A great console with fantastic games and visuals. But after almost 9 years after launch, it’s time.

@Werewius especially the implementation by Insomniac (Rift Apart and Spider-Man games) is soo good. Fidelity modes running pretty fine and smooth while the former 60 fps modes are smooth as butter now
Still hard to decide in which mode to play.

@stu123 burn in is not such a huge thing anymore with current oleds.
When you play a single game for hundreds of hours, running the tv with the highest brightness (oled light) then it might become a problem but under normal conditions it’s very unlikely that a burn in will happen.

@BReal it’s a hot topic currently. We waited 18 months for the VRR feature. As currently not so many games offering a „native“ VRR support - it’s fine to write articles about it.
When it will become a standard, no more articles are needed.

Re: PS5 VRR Support Finally Coming This Week, Boosting Performance in Some Games

@themightyant yeah true. In Germany a lot of people still have SD TVs but it still makes sense to offer HD channels or 4K streaming services.
Why not offer such a feature. You see that this wasn’t the highest priority in Sonys list when they offer it 18 months after the consoles release. So nothing to complain.
And it’s not needed for games. The console works totally fine on display without VRR or even 4K.

Re: PS5 VRR Support Finally Coming This Week, Boosting Performance in Some Games

@themightyant not true in all of your points. The supported VRR range of TVs is mostly from 40 fps up.
Neuwert TVs true - but people bought a next gen console and some of them might already have bought a newer tv as well. LG offers these hdmi 2.1 features like VRR since their 2019 TVs for example. Three years now.

120 are not needed for VRR. But it ca be useful as well. Nearly every game with 120 fps mode struggles to hold this fps consistent in demanding scenes. Theses drops within the range from 80 - 120 hz can feel even smoother with VRR. In general I agree with you that more demanding games and next gen exclusives won’t offer a 120 hz mode every time.

@Ken_Kaniff it can be useful to iron out some minor flaws with frame pacing, slow downs and/or tearing.
But yes, the hype around it is a bit too much. But it’s next gen and we expect nee features that weren’t available on the previous gen. So its nice but nothing groundbreaking.
But I’m happy as well that the console finally receives the feature.
